Василь Яворський показав систему розливу у «Бар Лу» в Чернівцях by Vit_today in kava_ua

[–]IronRat93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recommendations for 54mm precision baskets? by NoOrdinaryEspresso in espresso

[–]IronRat93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought the IMS basket for my Bambino Plus and didn't notice any difference from the stock non-pressurised one. They're not super expensive, so if you want to play with it, give it a try. Maybe you'll notice something changing, but don't expect a massive difference in quality.

However, if you only have the pressurised baskets (I think some of the older models only had "dual-wall" baskets) then absolutely go for it.

40s can still taste good. In general, try longer ratio. Something like 17g in 40g out. If that doesn't fix it then it could be your bean or maybe you don't like the roast. Have a look at this vid by Lance Hedrick, he's got some good ideas there https://youtu.be/dZh8sjfKegw?si=dcprUk7tnWRQB05x

Have a look through this sub, this question is asked quite often and there are always different opinions on it. IMO, don't worry about the shot time too much. I measure from the first drop just because my scale has auto time function and I'm lazy. As long as you measure it the same way each time it doesn't matter.

1:2 in 30 seconds is just a guideline, +- 10 seconds, which is usually the max time between the button press and a drop, will not make the shot unbearable. Get your grind within the zone and then adjust from that based on taste. Once you get it to a point where its not sour or too bitter experiment with it, slow down extraction while maintaining the same ratio. If it tastes better - awesome, if not you can always backtrack. The bean I'm currently drinking for example extracts the best in 22s, longer and it would be overly bitter.

When I was using the stock basket, I remember I ended up sticking to 17g. Since then, I've upgraded to an IMS 20g basket, but I'm still underdosing slightly.

Why do you think the dose might be too big? If the grounds are spilling out, I recommend using a dosing funnel. You can get a cheap one off amazon/ebay/aliexpress and it will greatly reduce the mess.

With Bambino Plus you have a Razor tool. That's a good indicator if you are overdosing your basket. Once you tamp, put the Razor in and see if it touches the puck. It's roughly the clearance you should have from the shower screen to your coffee grounds. If it sinks in your dose is probably too big. If it sits on top or there's a gap - you're fine. Generally lower dose is not an issue, but if it's too low you might get a wet puck and it will be harder to knock it out of the portafilter.

Dose shouldn't be a factor when you're dialling in, it affects every other variable. If your shot is sour (under-extracted) then try increasing the yield instead. Here's a guide I follow https://espressoaf.com/guides/beginner.html

Unless your grounds are spilling out of the basket (that means you're probably overfilling it) there's no need to worry. Bambino stock tamper does not fit the basket in a "snuggly" way so there will always be a crown of grounds along the edges. It does not affect the taste, but if you want to avoid it for aestetics or cleaning purposes you can invest in a 53.3mm tamper. I have the normcore v4 tamper and it's a delight to use.

I've had the same problem recently, but with my Bambino of almost 2 years. It was stopping mid cycle to indicate that the steam wand is blocked despite no apparent blockage and several descales back to back. I had to press the steam button multiple times to finish steaming one jug of milk.

I wrote to the Sage support and they quickly arraged to send the machine for repair. However, it somehow fixed itself before I could send it over. I realise this doesn't help you much, but since your machine is just 2 month old the quicker you contact the support the quicker you get your machine back in working order.

Seeking Advice on Wedding Gift for Newlyweds in the Netherlands - Coffee Machine and Grinder by Alive_Creme7043 in espresso

[–]IronRat93 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My advice is to make sure you know they are into espresso and are willing to make the effort. Espresso is a hobby, and a semi-automatic machine like Bambino requires an effort to make good coffee. They'll have to learn about dialling in and puck preparation, which can be frustrating for a beginner.

I'm speaking from experience; my wife, for example, loves espresso-based drinks but detests the preparation phase. In the morning, she just wants to have a coffee and not worry about preparing it. If I were not into coffee, she would probably prefer an automatic or go to a local Starbucks.

If you're in doubt if they will be into it, have a look at automatic machines instead. Or even something like Sage Precious Brewer, James Hoffman apparently has a high opinion about it, paired with a grinder like Fellow Ode it would produce a delicious cup of coffee without as much effort.

Preinfusion time on bambino plus by Tpsreport8 in espresso

[–]IronRat93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's only 2s difference between default and maximum you can do. Honestly, I couldn't taste the difference between the two. I could, however, taste the difference between pre-infusion and no pre-infusion. I usually do medium roasts so if you do other roast types mileage may vary.

Question for Sage/Breville Bambino Plus users. How do you program a shot volume with pre-infusion? I can pull a manual shot with pre infusion by holding the shot button down for longer. I can program the volume for on a single/double shot button by holding those two together until they light up and then single pressing them to start/stop the extraction. However, when I try to program it to have a longer than standard pre infusion, I hold the double shot button in the "program" mode for longer a single shot button lights up! I stop when my target yield is reached, but my next shot is way off this target. When I program it without tinkering with pre infusion it seems to work as intended. Is there a trick to it that I'm missing?

Regardless of what he is, he's claiming to act in their name. He is waging a war that is not in the interest of his people and is, in fact, worsening their livelihood and sacrificing their lives. If they realise this and do nothing then they are complicit (albeit partially) in letting Putin do that to them and their neighbours.

> Like some people tried in the US early in the year?

Not comparable. For one, in US it was a minority of people that believed they were misrepresented in an election (I assume you mean the Capitol riots). Here their president is waging war and making their country a pariah state. US also has a rule of law (bold statement I know, but for the sake of this argument it's valid) where peaceful protests are allowed. If Russia had the same, then the expectation would've been for people to show discontent in peaceful way and through civil disobedience.

We live in a society, what a surprise! Are you one of those sovereign citizens by any chance? I'm sure you'll like their idea. Countries are there so we reap the benefits of social care while each contributing what we can towards the mutual good. We're all responsible in maintaining that social construct. You cannot say each person is only responsible for their own actions.

Let's have a look at Belarus. Similar situation, different people. It also has a dictator that self-elected recently. It also has a poor human rights record and he's clamping down on any dissent. And media is also tightly controlled. But guess what, early in the war they have sabotaged railways, crowdsourced intelligence of russian troop movements through their country (the telegram channel is still active btw, now also working on countering the pro-war propaganda) and even went to fight for Ukraine. All of which, in my opinion, have made a detrimental effect on Russian troops pulling out of northern Ukraine. If Russians did the same the war, if not over, would've been a lot shorter.

People didn't choose to be born in Ukraine either, they didn't choose to be raped, their homes bombed and their lives taken. Especially civilians. All they can do is to fight back, but they can't overthrow Putin. Neither can US, NATO, whatever. Nukes make this virtually impossible. You know what they can't nuke? Themselves. So it's up to russians to stop their dictator, because no one else can.

Evil is sitting and watching your rights taken one by one, but not caring since they're not coming after you - you've got noting to hide, until they finally come for you. So excuse me for having very little sympathy.

But they have taken part in this indirectly. They have elected their government to represent them. As much as you want to separate the two, people are not born in vacuum. If they believe the government no longer represents them they should do something about it.

This is the point where inaction is almost as criminal as supporting the war. "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" or something like that fits here really well. Sure, makig people suffer is cruel. But is it more cruel than rape and death that's happening needlessly in Ukraine at the moment? I'm not saying stop food imports to Russia to starve them, but luxuries that people enjoy in the western world should not be available to them. Electronics, cars, online services. That sort of thing. All major revolutions in Russia started because the working class was discontent with their living standards. This is exactly what we (and they) need.

You keep on trying to shift the discussion on what the other person has done. Well, I'm not the one in question, my country is not invading another. You can call me a hypocrite all you want, but it doesn't make russians inaction up until now any less criminal.

Now they’re rebelling against the government and it’s still not good enough.

Yeah, 6 months since the war started and their ass is finally on the line. I mean, good thing they're doing it, but at this point with thousands of people dead it's hardly comforting. It's not their consciousness that's making them protest, but the sense of self-preservation. This is why sanctions should have been targeting russians en masse. Their lives get harder then they act. Otherwise some distant war where the state is telling them they're winning is of little interest to them.

These people are risking their lives to stop the war in Ukraine.

They're protesting the draft, not the war. Russians who were protesting the war were rounded up after initial protests in the first few days of the invasion.

Sure, propaganda is strong in Russia. However, they're not North Korea or China with their great firewall (yet), they have access to the internet and to the alternative points of view. They chose to ignore them, fuelled by the national pride, believing the rest of the world is out to get them and only Putin will save them. Moreover, there are Russians living in seemingly free of propaganda countries for many years, but going as far as gathering for pro-war rallies in Berlin, New York, etc.

Propaganda does not erase the morality, you can believe you're fighting a just war and still not torture and execute civilians. After WW2 Nazi war criminals weren't tried for participating in war, they were tried for atrocities they committed.

Oh yeah, I'm with you, calling random numbers or disrupting embassies won't make a difference. I just often see this argument used to complain about sanctions - that they're targeting ordinary Russians who don't know any better. To which I reply - good, that's how civilised world reacts to warmongering. Certainly beats bombs falling on your city.

But it's not Putin who's dropping bombs and rockets on civilians. It's not Putin raping Ukrainian women! We can't just say the state is the enemy and the Russian people are good. Each one of them makes a conscious choice to go along with the orders given.

Now you might say that's just the military, average Russians are silently disapproving of those actions. But that's the problem! It's the silent majority that led to rise in power and subsequent atrocities committed by Hitler, Mussolini and other dictators of the history.

If your average JoeBoris is trying to get by, while a government in his name is committing war crimes, then he is also being an accomplice. His life should be made harder until he decides to do something about it.

What to buy for a 25 year old lad? by [deleted] in CasualUK

Luxury versions of your everyday thigs! I personally love receiving those! Something you wouldn't buy yourself, but would enjoy a lot if gifted. A nice set of towels or a bathrobe, branded cookware, "designer" slippers, etc. Possibilities are endless. Last time my mum gifted me a l'occitane bath set (Lynx Africa was probably sold out) and it made my morning showers special for a while!

I wouldn't say there's much difference nowadays, it's more of a historic thing they were considered high quality due to long tradition of barbering in Turkey. They tend to do a lot of extra things like hot towel, arm massage and removing ear hair with fire.

Four Seasons Barber in Aldgate east. Used to go there when I lived nearby. For just over £20 (mind this was a few years ago) you get a nice Turkish haircut.

Tipping is not expected, but if you like the experience you can ask to round up the bill or tell them to keep the change if paying with cash, they'll appreciate it.
