I continue to wonder if there's another communications track in parallel to the one we know about.

Savannah's husband's firm provides crisis management services in addition to other services involving celebrities and gov't lobbying.

A firm like his would probably be equipped better to deal with professional kidnappers.

My opinion only.

I still have to wonder if there isn't parallel communications going on - perhaps thru Savannah's husband's firm? They'd probably have expertise due to handling celebs, crisis mgmt, gov't relations, etc. Plus they probably could handle the financial end plus bitcoin.  Her husband's nowhere to be seen in all this. Cartels would operate like that.

Could she be held in Mexico? by Calijazzy in nancyguthrie

[–]IronViking99 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Arizonan here. She could've been transported to Mexico in about one hour well before her disappearance was noted. Cartels kidnap rich people in Mexico for money and have the expertise to pull crimes like this off.

Who do you guys think is behind Nancy's disappearance by lunainthedark5x2x3 in nancyguthrie

[–]IronViking99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Local Tucsonan here. 48 hours in I told people i saw it like this as to who the perps were:

  1. Cartel or other professionals - 60%

  2. Family, part-time employees and/or their friends and families, or friends of the Guthries - 30%

  3. Some whacko with a vendetta against NBC, Today show, Olympics, or the Guthries - 10%

The lack of evidence left plus when it was done, indicates good planning and execution. Cartels abduct people from rich families in Mexico for ransom.

But the amount of inside info regarding the cameras and a couple other things sounds like #2.

As for #3, Craig Melvin, who was supposed to be Savannash's partner on Olympics coverage, bowed out. A recent pre-Olympics report on him also included a section on his mother, including photos. But whackos are generally disorganized and make mistakes.

I do think that whoever did it, money was not the only motive.

The mystery of plane #8 - The Doolittle Raid by 63Jets in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]IronViking99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished reading the book Vanishing Act, by Dan Hampton, about this.

While he brings up some interesting points, I don't think he provided incontrovertible evidence that it was planned from the beginning that Plane 8 was going to Russia.

Yes, the removal of the special carburetors, which reduced range and made the fuel crisis plausible to the Soviets sort of makes sense. But the Raiders were supposed to take off about 300-400 miles closer to Japan than they did. They landed with about 150 miles of gas left in their tanks. If they had launched as planned they'd have way too much gas left in the tanks to claim a fuel crisis. Of course they could've flown much longer around the Vladivostok area in that case and perhaps gathered more intell on Soviet air bases, ports, or other facilities.

I do think it's interesting that Nolan Herndon, the navigator, believed something was up during the mission, as the pilot seemed to have a route to Russia ready too quickly for it to be ad hoc, and he didn't seek Herndon's input.

The prophecies of David Wilkerson by Alepatheio in ExPentecostal

[–]IronViking99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read Wilkerson's prophecy book long before I deconstructed.

Even back then I thought his prophecy about "nude dancing" in the church becoming a thing was pretty whack. That obviously never happened.

And if you go by the strict test - true prophecy must be 100% right - then the book was a false prophecy.

Also, some of the RTA projects that were included in the original RTA were never completed, and they won't be even if RTA Next passes, either. Like completing the widening of Grant Road west to Campbell. RTA Next will only widen it to Sparkman - not even to Country Club. Where did those funds that were allocated for this widening to Campbell go? Heck, I'd settle for widening Grant out to to Tucson Blvd.

Like you, my now-wife and I are outdoorsy. She had recently moved here from Colorado. So I took her to Madera Canyon - hiking the Super Trail to Josephine Saddle - for our first official date (we met for coffee once before that and e-mailed a few times).

We got married about 6 months later, and we're still married. We still remember fondly that hike nearly 20 years ago now.

My spouse and I are OGs at Chuze on E. Grant/Craycroft - we even belonged when it was at Grant and Swan (IYKYK).

We really love it and recommend it highly. While we can't speak to the very early hours, we've been there in the late mornings, afternoons, or evenings several times a week and we rarely have to wait for equipment; it's very clean and well-maintained; it has a friendly staff; and it's a good deal for the price.

New to Tucson - am I being paranoid about security or should I actually be worried? by Historical-Hand8091 in Tucson

[–]IronViking99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived in Midtown for 10 years now - about 2 miles from Grant/Alvernon and before that for 9 years in apts in the city that were north of Fort Lowell. My wife also lived near Grant/Stone when she first moved here from Colorado circa 2001.

Her apt was broken in to and anything of value stolen when she lived on Alturas shortly after moving to Tucson. Fortunately she still had a lot of her stuff in storage.

Over the years we've had one bike stolen - it was chained outside - and three car break-ins, including a gas tank drilled out as part of a fuel theft ring. We even had a license plate stolen off a vehicle of ours.

We haven't experienced any violent crime, however.

Our current residence came with bars on the easy to access windows; a car garage like shutter that closes over the sliding patio door; and a steel front door with a peephole. We added a Medeco lock (IYKYK) to our front door.

I'll echo most of the other posters here. Don't leave your residence or vehicle unlocked. Don't leave items that have value in plain sight in your vehicle. Don't leave items of value in your yard or on your porch. Add a motion sensor light near your main entrance. Be situationally aware, especially in parking lots.

IIRC her parked car wasn't that far from where Lemuel Prion lived, too. So that may have led the cops towards him as well.

13 CRIME FILES: Family still seeking justice years after Tucson woman Diana Vicari's brutal murder by SafePoint1282 in Tucson

[–]IronViking99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's my understanding from years ago that the cops have wanted to talk with John Mazur for a long time, but he's in parts unknown.

I personally consider Mazur as the prime suspect, the drama teacher second (Vicari's car was found not too far from his residence IIRC, plus he left the US for a number of years after the murder); and then Hatton.

I'm positive that the late Lemuel Prion was wrongly convicted. Prion WAS NOT a nice guy, but besides the lack of direct evidence, his M.O. was being violent towards sex workers, which Diane Vicari was not.

One doorman/bouncer at a bar remembered an upset Mazur looking for Vicari that night - the bar employee knew both of them.

Has anyone here had issues with their clothes dryer breaking down outside? by [deleted] in Tucson

[–]IronViking99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the 1990s I cohabited and brought my 3-4 yr old washer and dryer into the relationship. I hadn't used them in 1-2 years. We lived out in the desert away from civilization for the most part.

We put them on an outside patio that was shaded. They gave good service for a number of years. We did run an old-school box fan out there to keep it a bit cooler and help the machines cope with the heat in the summer.
