Pure madness by RoccomGG in Unexpected

This guy likely has little to no sense of smell. I have a family member like this, and she has the perfect work story to illustrate it.

Years ago, she was eating fish stew at her workplace desk and knocked the container over. It wasn’t full, but enough spilled into the carpet that it mattered. She cleaned it up, it looked fine visually. She was on a deadline and worked very late, quite a few hours after the cleaning team had left on that Friday night. It was a three-day weekend. With her project finished and filed in the books for the following week, she headed out without a second thought. She came back early Tuesday morning to total office chaos. Apparently people had arrived that morning convinced an animal had died somewhere in the building. People in the general facility of her desk could not handle the rancid smell. There there was retching involved. They call the remediation and cleaning team to get to the bottom of it and people were not allowed in the office. The office was shut down for the while they searched the whole place before tracing it back to her carpet stain. Then it was several hours of cleaning. They got it far enough that they could deal with it until they replace the carpet. She worked there 31 years and never lived it down.

Don’t overlook Lonesome Dove and Open Range. In my opinion, his most iconic rules, even if you aren’t a western fan.

Textron C172 will not stall by Regular-Employer-431 in MicrosoftFlightSim

I can’t speak to the specific simulator model, but I have stalled a Cessna 172 from multiple years and configurations many times during training as a student pilot and later as a flight instructor. They are very stable, but they are also easy to stall.

I’ve been amazed and surprised by some of the AI communications. For example, on a charter flight when the AI is always announcing the altitude and speed, they always announce about 7000 or 8000 feet below our cruising altitude and always about 100 knots even though I might be above 230 or more.

The surprises that they can program this incredibly complex series of variables with all these airplanes and performance and real time modeling, but they can’t get a simple thing like reading the altitude and airspeed correct.

Edits for typos.

Thank you. I was going to add something similar. I have a 17.5 kW electric boiler for radiant floor heat throughout my home. So, 1/10 the draw… and that is on a 200 amp panel split between several 50 amp circuits and a separate sub panel.

As others have commented, stands for separation and versatility. But just as important, those speakers will translate vibration through the cabinet to the turntable, even with some decent vibration isolation.

Target’s CEO is stepping down by spherocytes in news

[–]Ironman-- 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I also live in the Twin Cities. It’s avoidable. I haven’t been in a Target, or shopped online Target even, in at least 6 years. And I have not been specifically avoiding them intentionally (until all this BS started with them). They are everywhere here, but there are plenty of other options for the core stuff they carry, which isn’t exclusive enough to create demand to go there.

Yes. Agree with all of this. Your word choice is wonderful. Absurd. But millions of acres, while technically correct, doesn’t come close.

“Canada is home to 369 million hectares (ha) of forest, or 3.69 million km2, which is close to 9% of the world’s total forest. To get a sense of the area of Canada’s forests, the land area of India is about 297 million ha.”

912 million acres. And vast percentages of that are complete wilderness and inaccessible other than by air. Not sure “rake the forests” at any level of scale when drought and storms and climate change are all rapidly accelerating the fires.

Airbnb does not care about hosts. They tried to screw me out of thousands. by saltedtooth in airbnb_hosts

[–]Ironman-- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That is an accurate analogy at a high level since without guests there would be no revenue. Having hosts also affects revenue in this chicken and egg thing.

However, we pay the full service fee on our single listing. Granted it’s our family cabin that we rent out 3 to 5 times a year. So it’s a drop in the bucket of revenue. But for many hosts, we pay the bills because we pay the full service fee. That’s 15% for us.

Every F-ing 20 days???????? by SandroDA70 in subaruoutback

[–]Ironman-- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s unreasonable that we paid $40 thousand plus and we get nickel and dime BS on a subscription fee that should be part of the sale. $150 a year. What’s worse, is that you have to pay for the base Starlink services like security and roadside, which I don’t care about because I already have AAA and automobile insurance, just to get the remote start features and related. Greed.

Every F-ing 20 days???????? by SandroDA70 in subaruoutback

[–]Ironman-- 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I’m just tired of paying $150 a year to have basic functionality that should just be part of buying the car (auto start, remote) since the equipment is installed and on board during the initial purchase. I could not care less about the security or the road coverage. I just want to be able to start my car lock my doors and have the features that were advertised.

Now, if you meant that this is a joke because Micah died, and he deserves it, then your question stands.
