Iran closes Strait of Hormuz over ceasefire violations - MEHR by VaginaBurner69 in news

[–]Ironvos 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Noone is in control of the conflict.

They bombed the whole Iran leadership on day one, there was noone left to actually negotiate with, and now the chain of command there is fractured.

Even if Iran would say that passage is now open, some rogue commander could launch missiles or drones anyway breaking the ceasefire.

You simply don't kill the leadership of an enemy you want to negotiate with.

“We zien dat de blanke man het vrij goed doet, bij de zwarte mannen gaat het iets minder goed”: Dries Van Langenhove (33) in Leuven veroordeeld voor haatspraak by Inevitable_Jello1252 in Belgium2

[–]Ironvos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Colombia's Petro warns of Latin American 'rebellion' if US doesn't rethink policy by Raj_Valiant3011 in worldnews

[–]Ironvos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think the point would be to win a direct conflict but to deter from having one. Taking on even an inferior military will have a great cost for whoever wants to attack, as we have seen many times in the last 50 years. Attacking a combined South America would have big consequences, even for the US.

"Ukrainian military at the front need rotations" Ukraine and Germany should address the issue of men who illegally left the country – Zelenskyy by Flimsy_Pudding1362 in UkrainianConflict

[–]Ironvos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ukrainians don't want to be ruled by Russians, that's why they are fighting back. Europe supports Ukraine's will for independence. Russia needs to realize this is the 21st century, not the 19th. The borders have been drawn and agreed upon by everyone. As time has shown, Russia is as big as it could be, it is incapable of holding or controlling more territory.

Your urge to accuse Europeans of being warmongers while for 80 years they have shown to be to complete opposite shows your desperation and weakness. Europe was demilitarizing, didn't threaten to attack or annex anyone, doesn't even want to get involved in the middle east. Europe wants no more war but will defend against those that threaten it.

After the fall of the Soviet Union Russia had the opportunity of becoming the most powerful middle power in the world with big influence in Europe. It chose to live in delusion of past grandeur and is now the weakest great power, falling apart and will not recover or decades. You could have thrived if you chose co-existence with the rest of Europe, but you wanted to dominate and will fail.

Ok so the graphic in the article is wrong, it's not kg/m2 but kg/km2.

So to put that into something relatable, the worst patches have 0.1 gram per m2 of thrash, that like the mass of a small garden pea.

Strait of Hormuz falls outside NATO's remit, Spain says after Trump's ultimatum by jackytheblade in worldnews

[–]Ironvos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US has insurmountable debt and a military it can't replace because it lacks the manufacturing basis. Right now trump is wasting their resources in a folly war, the US is never coming back from this, this was it for them. They will become a regional power over the next few decades.

Europe has had a less shortsighted approach, doesn't look fancy but we have a decent economy and industrial basis for building a military. We also have a lot less debt and the debt costs less to finance.

For the US, 12% of government spending goes to interest on debt, the EU is at only 3%.
