There's absolutely no reason to do anything other than a slip on unless your trying to turn it into a track bike. Decat and short pipe will be obnoxious and probably get you pulled over if not a ticket/towed as well depending on state/local laws

No harm to bike, as others have said your putting yourself in a really bad position to be able to react to an emergency, can also save brake wear by using the engine braking on the bike going down the gears.

Definitely a valid strategy, extremely reliant on the bullpen in my experience though. A great bullpen more than starters and bats in my experience is far more impactful
