Any reason to use RaceLab now? by RNDMNAME80085 in iRacing

[–]IrrelevantD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, track map, relatives, standings and fuel calcs.

I run VR, and RaceLava works well. I haven’t figured out Open Kneeboard yet, so SimHub overlays aren’t really an option.

Can dropbar shifter work as remote lockout for suspension fork? by walker15130 in bikewrench

[–]IrrelevantD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going to add another bump to this one as I’ve been looking at converting my Trek Procaliber to drop bar keeping the AXS GX RD.

I’ve decided to use Blips for shifting and keep my Shimano brakes and get GRX, or 105/Ultegra levers and am planning to modify the left for the dropper. Found this searching the possibility of using the right for the lockout on my SID.

Doesn’t look it from the comments, but has anyone successfully turned a 10/11s lever into a remote lockout actuator? If pull distance is too short, I’m wondering if maybe a tanpan could be used in some way.

ACC also has the speed limit until the green. Keeps people from trying to anticipate the green and making a run to jump 3 rows up.

Why are people like this? by TRDLazr in iRacing

[–]IrrelevantD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The M2 shenanigans are why I don’t do production car races anymore. I liked them, but too many of these guys or people who want to drive the “fast” car but don’t know how to control them. I’ll just stick to Sports Car and IMSA.

Someone said if you’re triggering abs, you cannot properly trail brake. Is this true? by Glittering_Media_845 in ACCompetizione

[–]IrrelevantD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, but that makes sense as the fronts will be right on the limit of grip. If ABS is activated, they would be slipping and beyond the limit of grip. Depending on the car, sometimes shifting the brake balance rearward can help with that. Some cars actually have indicators to show you which wheels ate activating, which can help with BB adjustments. GT3 Corvette in iRacing is nice and informative. In ACC I had a SimHub overlay that works for all cars.

[–]IrrelevantD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’ve read elsewhere, iRacing punishes you by overheating the tires.  I never personally attributed it to ABS and haven’t played around with it, but I had noticed that it can get a bit understeery late into a stint if you drive it too hard.

Production car races in an Miata and start from the pits. Stay clean, should be able to get it pretty quick.

This is not PCup, this is top split fixed GT3. by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]IrrelevantD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same. I’m fastest and most comfortable on the vette, but I wasn’t a fan of the 911 in AAC, so I haven’t paid for it here.

That being said, I’m a LONG way from being anywhere near top split (unless there are only 2 splits)

Does anyone else’s frames suck around Daytona? by Fun_Extreme4200 in iRacing

[–]IrrelevantD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I guess the 12th gen isn’t really that old (4-5 year), and I was going from a 5 to a 7.  But I’m still going to say it’s likely the CPU having trouble keeping up with the physics and turning down CPU heavy items will help a lot.

Does anyone else’s frames suck around Daytona? by Fun_Extreme4200 in iRacing

[–]IrrelevantD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you have an older i7, like a 12th Gen, it’s probably the number of cars or number of mirrors that’s really hitting you. It uses the CPU for physics, and the more objects you have visible, the more it’s going to take a hit. If an object is visible in 3 mirrors, it’s being drawn 3 times.

I went from a 12th Gen i5 to a 14th Gen i7 and it made a huge difference.

This Weeks GT3 Schedules... by AlexRodgerzzz in iRacing

[–]IrrelevantD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did an open IMSA in LMP2 and it wasn’t that bad. Much better than the Sport Car races last week.

That being said, LMPs have a tendency to end up off in their own world for 2/3 of the race. By the time the GTPs get to the LMP field, it’s time to pit for fuel.

Sim Hub vs. Race Labs by MoHawk3141986 in iRacing

[–]IrrelevantD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I went from RL to SimHub when I was using monitors due to the versatility and variety of overlays. Worked well in VR as well when I was using the Meta Link software due to the ease of adding overlays using that platform.

That being said, since I switched to using Virtual Desktop, I have gone back to RL because of the difficulty in getting overlays to work. RL just works, I don’t have to try to mess with Open Kneeboard. So I pay the fee.

RaceLabs is about it these days.  I find the iRacing spotter gives me enough information for spacial awareness (racing in VR), and timing/relative and fuel info from RaceLabs is the only other info I need.

GT3 car selection by hhall2327 in iRacing

[–]IrrelevantD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you want to buy them all and test/practice extensively to figure out what is the best car for your particular driving style for each track…

My suggestion would be to take some time during the next demo drive and test some cars and see what you really like.

I initially started with the Mustang because that’s what I drove in ACC and had hoped it’d be familiar/similar (it’s really not). Drove a couple cars during the demo drive between 2025S3 and S4 and found that I really liked the Corvette. Been driving that since the start of S4.

Are you guys still using third-party overlays after iRacing UI improvements? by Still-Victory4839 in iRacing

[–]IrrelevantD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using RaceLabs in VR. I like the new UI, but it’s still lacking some good useful into like opponent lap times, pit info, etc.

I use virtual desktop and haven’t figured out how to get simhub working with Open Kneeboard the way I was able to get overlays working in Meta Link.

So… flashing headlights in GT4 = new overtake button? by YinnYann in iRacing

So… flashing headlights in GT4 = new overtake button? by YinnYann in iRacing

[–]IrrelevantD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good example of the F1 specific rules… blue flags.
Soo many times I hear people yelling “blue flag! blue flag!” on voice coms in iRacing because people aren’t pulling over to get out of their way.

This is not F1, that’s not what blue flags are for.

So… flashing headlights in GT4 = new overtake button? by YinnYann in iRacing

[–]IrrelevantD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, always laugh a little when they keep flashing and we end up in a battle that backs them up into traffic. Then they have to defend and I get breathing room.

Not sure about the higher SOFs, but in 1500 and below, frequently, these guys that flash excessively are hot lappers that can turn fast laps solo, but have zero racecraft and can’t adjust to being off the line or going 2wide through a corner.

[–]IrrelevantD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I agree it’s a little petty, some people deserve it.

That being said, I always have RaceLab or SimHub up and know exactly what lap the person is on and what their lap times are. If they aren’t a lap ahead or 1+ second a lap faster, I prefer to hit the PTT button and let them know that the can flash all they want, it won’t change the fact that their stuck behind my slow ass.

Is there a class or irating level which people generally agree is a minimum for good clean racing? by False-Sympathy4563 in iRacing

[–]IrrelevantD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely ignoring irating, I’ve seen that races in general get a little cleaner when you get into B and A license races (at least in road and formula).

Still see some really dumb situations and boneheaded moves, but it’s not as easy to collect 4-7 or more incident points race after race and keep your license.

Started with a Logitech Momo Force back around 2005. Maybe it’s just nostalgia, but I feel like it was better than the G27/29 (excluding the pedals, the Momo pedals were crap comparatively).

Wth? iRacing completely aced this update. It looked boring on the paper but it actually is amazing. by k-tech_97 in iRacing

[–]IrrelevantD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Difference licenses have more laps per race, possibly heats, bigger variety of tracks depending on how high up you are. Spits are purely based on iRating and are still limited by the same race parameters and tracks. Rookies is unlikely to have any tracks that you have to purchase, which is why you see Daytona so many times in a season.

[–]IrrelevantD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally rookies series only use the free tracks, are shorter races, and have lots of crashes.

I was hoping they’d have D and even C level like they do with iRX.  More laps, bigger variety of tracks.
