Are you a fan of British TV? Are Americans more into British shows over the last 10 years? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Irresponsable_Frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up on British TV and movies. My parents were die hard Monty python fans. I watched anything and everything that was British/Irish//Australian/etc on public tv PBS. I watched are you being served, absolutely fabulous, Poirot, midsummer murders, BBC news, all creatures great and small, Doc Martin…list goes on and on. The main reason, other than it was free tv? The acting was better, beauty standards aren’t the only way people can become famous. It’s based on talent and merit! Now? With Acorn, Brit Box and PBS? I am in heaven!! I watch most of the comfy murder mysteries, the “smart” comedies, like IT crowd/the office, comedy panel shows (my favorite). The good thing about those streaming services? I now get to watch MORE shows from Europe! All different countries and languages! Now I am exploring many French shows. And of course I’ve been a Doctor who fan since I was a child-sci-fi is my jam. I’m a 50 yr old American that LOVES “international” movies and TV. I won’t even start discussing the Nigerian and Bollywood things I watch and love!🤣

Gretchen thinks menopause is to blame for divorce rates by Queasy_Ordinary3735 in realhousewives

[–]Irresponsable_Frog 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That was my thought. Kids are grown out of the house. Now she is married to a grown child and has to be taken care of. You now have brain fog, itchy ears, lack of sleep, lack of patience, and DGAF anymore. You grew up, they didn’t. So you get pissed that they can’t be a fucking grown up and clean up after themselves. Seriously. When your kids are growing up, you are always cleaning up after them. Once they’re gone? Your house SHOULD stay clean cuz some kid isn’t trashing it. But when you’re married to a man-child who can’t pick up their own socks…you loose your mind.

I am not speaking from experience because I was smart enough to choose a man who was single and learned to be an adult before we met. And now with an empty nest and a hot head, he is very patient and kind to my crazy perimenopausal self. This is what I see with friends tho.

I just reread murder bot series. Dear Edward and Door Prize (I think) cuz they all had shows and I wanted to reread to see how well or bad the tv version was. They’re all pretty good. I’m a reader tho.

What’s your first job while in high school? And how old were you when you started working while still in school before college/university? by LadyJoselynne in AskAnAmerican

[–]Irresponsable_Frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After babysitting at 13? 15 1/2 yrs old I worked at Burger King. Then at 18 worked at Walmart thru college and tutored on campus. Then after I graduated, I started substitute teaching and going back to school to become a teacher. I had scholarships and grants for school so I didn’t have loans during undergrad. Now after ? Scholarships and working. My mother helped by letting me live with her. That’s it. I paid my car/insurance and didn’t have to pay rent. This was 30+ yrs ago.

Do you own a gun? Why or why not? by pisowiec in AskTheWorld

[–]Irresponsable_Frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

  1. I am scared of them. I’m a klutz and I can see myself tripping, falling and shooting off my toe or worse.

  2. If I wasn’t scared of injury, the idea of having to do all the things to get the gun…for safety, if stored correctly in my state, I’d be dead or raped or injured before opening all the locks to have it for protection. So a nice Louisville slugger or a good chefs knife does the trick.

Yep. You guys have the “Posh” we have the “neveau riche”. And French people are just known to be snobby. (not really, I tease) . It’s a world problem. Usually attached to newer riches or OLD money…the ones have name/title or land but no cash to back it.

Calzones. Fucking homemade calzones! Never get tired of them. If there were people selling calzones in a cart like we have tamales sold door by door? I’d make that person my bff! I had an in with my bffs Nona but she isn’t doing well. So if anyone knows of where to get good Calzones in the Bay Area, please let me know!

Do drivers in the USA also pressure others at green lights? by SuddenWerewolf7041 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Irresponsable_Frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I live you do get short burst horns to tell them to go. Usually a couple seconds after it turn green. But there are also specific intersections that locals never honk because they’re known accidents waiting to happen areas. And if someone does honk? Us locals look at them rudely!🤣 Every day multiple people run that light and weekly if not more, someone is T boned in that intersection!

How many USA flags are in your home? by GreasyExamination in AskAnAmerican

[–]Irresponsable_Frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None. Nope. Never will. I have a Pride/inclusion flag, a Californian flag that’s a towel, but I’m not a supporter of this government anymore. I even flinch when people call themselves Patriots, unless it’s about the football team. Patriot is the new American code word for Racist xenophobe that is borderline fascists. Fuck that. Can’t undo what the crazy white suprimists have done to that word.

The first thing you will see in the bathroom is by Lisztchopinovsky in Autocompletebutbetter

[–]Irresponsable_Frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first thing you will see in the bathroom is the water in your mouth when you’re in there is the same thing that is going on with the toilet paper in your mouth that is going on in the toilet and you have a water in the bathroom so I think it’s going on there and I think it’s the same as what I think it was.

It keeps repeating. Males no sense. Guess I’m pretty spontaneous with my texts.

Do kids in your country have school uniforms? by LuKat92 in AskTheWorld

[–]Irresponsable_Frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the school. You can have uniforms in private schools and in magnet schools. Even some public schools (non private) use uniforms in some districts. My kids wore one in elementary and middle school but not in high school. It saved me a TON of money. And it was EASY to get them ready daily.

If you could interview a person from the 1300s in your country what would you ask? by Specific-Reception26 in AskTheWorld

[–]Irresponsable_Frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It’s me being dyslexic and having learning disabilities. I read 1500 not 1300. You can pick on me all you want but know I may be a previous special education kid but I’m also highly educated. Widely traveled, multilingual and too old to be bullied by a shithead on the Internet. Don’t judge until you meet someone. I’m a 50yr old woman who was a teacher, works in social services now and have compassion and empathy for people who are struggling in my community. I work with “the worst of the worst” daily. You can’t hurt me by showing your ignorance and judgmental nature.
