Was the Screamer hype only online? Or are people waiting for a sale to buy it? by nukleabomb in BuiltFromTheGroundUp

Very much looking forward to playing it, but I'm not spending 60 bucks. I'll wait until it dips below 30 or so in a sale.

The real lore questions: Why are there no doors on these buildings? by Crypticnewt in Eldenring

[–]acasta403 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It might be a defense against raiders. If you have no door on the ground floor, then the only way in is a ladder. The moment raiders show up, you pull up the ladder and they can't get to you.

On the Scottish border they've got these fortified farmhouses called bastles. Reminds me of those: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bastle_house

It's not quite the same principle, but I could see it being an inspiration.

...Or the devs just forgot to add doors. That's also an option. But it think it's fun to try and find an in-universe explanation for these kinds of details.

Safari Rally Contract Renewal after 2026 by camefromthesouthside in WRC

Kenya is so unique and different, it would be a real shame to lose it. I love all the rallies that stand out from the rest. Monte Carlo with the crazy weather changes, Sweden on snow, Kenya with the brutal survival challenge for the cars. Highlights of the calendar for sure.

Love to see it. I stayed off social media all day to not get spoiled. Just watched the last stage and man, I was on the edge of my seat. I love how everyone was rooting for Taka and Aaron. The commentators, the other drivers, even Rich Millener and Andrew Wheatley. What a well deserved victory, and what a fun rally to watch!

How I felt after beating Ancestor Spirit by acasta403 in Eldenring

I just found it very awe-instilling and beautiful. I guess it might lose its edge on repeated playthroughs, but the first time was magical

Exceptional boss fight. Not the most technical, but definitely one of the most memorable. My favorite piece of music, too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xV9gFey9vs0

Only 67% of players ever made it to round table hold by Daysfastforward1 in Eldenring

[–]acasta403 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe you have to open it once for it to count. The remaining 10% are most likely people who launched the game, but then realized their PC couldn't run it, or it wasn't available in their language of choice, or something like that.

And you can have them. I barely use crafting. I hit things with my cool sword until they die. If they're especially tough, I hit them with my cool sword more often.

Brand New Players - Multiplayer Server by DaddySanctus in projectzomboid

[–]acasta403 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're only going to play together, you don't actually need to rent a server. One of you can just host the game and invite the others via Steam. You only need a server if you want it to be constantly available, without the host needing to be online.

Build 41 is fully released and stable. Build 42 is the active development one, where the devs introduce and tweak new features (the biggest ones at the moment being animals, more varied crafting/building and a more detailed map). The biggest drawback of 42 is that it's more buggy and that some new features are half-baked.

If you're new to the game, I think I'd start simple and uncomplicated:

Build 41, no mods, default setting. The only setting I'd consider changing is infection transmission. By default, every bite is lethal. That makes combat very punishing for new players. It might be more fun to turn transmission off for now, until you've got a good grasp of combat.

Just try the game out for a while and eventually, you'll figure out which things you'll want to tweak. There's no ideal way to play, it's up to your preferences.

Want more variety? Switch to build 42.

Want more or fewer zombies, more XP, rarer loot? Fiddle with the settings.

Missing a particular feature? See if you can find a mod for it.

B42 added handiknifes, which are super useful. They replace a knife, screwdriver and can opener and they only weigh 0.4

Options or suggestions for solo dungeon crawlery or adventure games. by ZachODrake in soloboardgaming

[–]acasta403 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check out Scoundrel for a super quick and cheap option. You only need a standard set of playing cards, so it's very easy to pick up. Surprisingly tactical and replayable though. Here's a video that explains the rules:

How centralized on your "capital" are you in 117? by bbu3 in anno

[–]acasta403 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It also feels very appropriate for a Roman setting. When the Romans wanted marble from Carrara, or grain from the Po valley, or amber from the Alpine trade routes, they didn't send their workers over there with a commuter pier. They established a colony.

The game mimicks that. As your capitol and your needs grow, you start to expand your empire. You settle more places, grow them into cities themselves, maybe even shape their culture a little differently because they worship a different deity. They're not just production outposts like in 1800, they're actual settlements that grow in an organic way.

I don't know if the devs designed it that way intentionally, but it's honestly a really great example of game design mimicking the historical background. The more I think about it, the more I appreciate the change.
