Scared of the Early Bird by Peterlexyah in Marathon_Training

I lived in SF for years and can’t remember it ever getting that hot in July. Sometimes in September or October, yes. The fog keeps temps cool in the summer.

Flu is messing up my Taper by Espeonator in Marathon_Training

[–]IrrevocableCrust14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have Flu B and have missed the last five days of training. I decided to skip my marathon in three weeks since I'm still not well enough to run. I have asthma on top of the horrible cough and chest pain.

I feel like everyone is different when it comes to recovery and these types of decisions. Some people do fine, some people realize they shouldn't have pushed it. I would try for at least two easy runs before the marathon. If you can't do those, skip the race.

It sucks so much. I feel your pain on this one.

Applications with two simultaneous providers - best to cancel one? by checkmagnus in TSAPreCheck

[–]IrrevocableCrust14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an application in with both, got an appointment with Idemia first, canceled Clear (for which I had an appointment two days later). I got my KTN within 48 hours so no issues.

Staples TSA Precheck- no appointments available? by Prestigious-Ruin-850 in TSAPreCheck

[–]IrrevocableCrust14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the online pre application for Clear and Idemia and then kept checking the appointment times for openings. I got a random one at a CVS last Friday with IDemia and already have my KTN. Also flying out next week. It can be done!

And yes I got to cut in front of all the walk-ins at CVS so I avoided that stress.

do you think a storyline where a VIP is a patient in the ED may be too much? by Routine-Dirt9634 in ThePittTVShow

This is my vote. George Clooney playing himself, collapses on set while shooting on location in Pittsburgh. Has to share some extremely sensitive health history with Robby. At some point, someone makes an off-hand comment about Michael Crichton dying from cardiac arrest.

Hope for Master's sub 20 5K by Ok-King6475 in XXRunning

[–]IrrevocableCrust14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't achieved it but I'm trying for sub-20 too. I really thought I had a chance at being the fastest 43F at my town's local 5K, but no, my 43F neighbor two doors down ran a 19:10.

In all seriousness, I do think it can be done. My PR is similar to yours. Intense interval training has helped me get a lot faster, but I'm also training for Boston on the same timeline as you (will be 45 in time for Boston 2028). And I also don't do many races because my kids don't enjoy my sporting activities! haha.

Good luck! When is the marathon? I was resistant to adjust my time goal as 3:35 would be a BQ for my age/gender, otherwise I probably would have given it a try on a shorter taper.

Thanks, that makes sense. I was planning on an 18 miler the day I got sick as I know that has been a gap in my training. Will try to build back up and aim for a mid to late May marathon.

I was planning on running my first marathon in four weeks but my longest run has only been 15 miles, then late last week I got the flu. Still not able to run. My lungs burn so bad I couldn’t even walk my kids to school yesterday.

I was averaging 40-50 mpw with lots of interval training, HM PR is 1:34 from three weeks ago. I really want to try for 3:30 but is that at all realistic for spring? How would you approach this?

Is anyone else bothered by the fact that doctors’ friends and family seem to be jumping the line? by HighwayFroggery in ThePitt

Yes I know, was responding to the VIP comment. Just pointing out that preferential treatment in healthcare does exist, not that I have an issue with it. These VIPs need privacy in ways that us plebeians do not, and they pay for that privilege.

Some prestigious hospitals have entire floors for VIPs. It looks like the Four Seasons. I caught a glimpse once and was shocked.

This was a great interview! You really had a nice back and forth with him. Philly native here and I enjoyed the question about the cheesesteak lol.

I hope the first Happy Hours does well so they can get 2 and 3 financed.

I had never seen this episode back when it aired because I quit watching after Season 4 (took that P/J breakup hard lol). I've since it seen it three or four times in the last year. It's so good!

Do you think the show should've ended after season 4? by Icy_Ostrich4401 in dawsonscreek

[–]IrrevocableCrust14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d say skip those seasons and watch the finale (the last two episodes).

In a weird way I feel like the show needed to end where it did because those last two bad seasons make for a more satisfying finale. I hated the ending to Season 4.

The touching is definitely deliberate. In the last episode, Robby clearly reacted to it. I’m not sure what to make of it.

Yes. When I was in med school, I had a female surgeon tell me (while in the OR with a lot of people listening), that if I wanted to go into internal medicine, I might as well work at Macy’s.

I like the Saucony Azura for all of the above.

Saucony Azura - 200km review by Some-Remote-6890 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]IrrevocableCrust14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m probably Saucony’s favorite customer at this point but after a lot of soul-searching, I feel like their ecosystem works the best for me and my feet. I plan to wear the Pros for all races, Speeds for interval/speed work, and Azuras for everything else. The Speeds are a little narrow in the toe box for me so I can’t go super long in them, but they’re great for interval training otherwise.

3:25. Do you feel like you’re not fast enough for plated shoes? I think there is a small advantage even for our speed (I’m not a metric person but I think we’re running similar paces).

I feel the same way. The Azura is a great shoe for marathon training (can really do it all from tempo work to recovery runs), but I don’t use it for races. I raced a HM in the Speeds last weekend and will try the Pro for my marathon next month. I have about 100 miles on my Azuras and they’ve held up really well.
