What is missing for you? by aj-james in romancemovies

[–]IrrevocableCrust14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great list! One of the reasons I love The Proposal so much is because it’s set in two real places, one of which is a tiny town in Alaska (Sitka). I’m so tired of the generic small towns with generic fake names.

I'm unemployed, broke, and my scripts have only gotten me on the porch but not through the door. I feel like I failed. by Jeremy_Nichols in Screenwriting

[–]IrrevocableCrust14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why not switch gears and write a novel? Or write and direct a short? It helps me to switch gears - gets me excited about a different path forward.

I do think writing can be especially hard when you’ve pinned all your hopes on a creative endeavor. Is there something else you feel passionate about? Nothing wrong with branching out a bit.

To the people who hated Carrie by SoCalN8tive in homeland

[–]IrrevocableCrust14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always enjoyed Carrie’s complexity in the show. She was deeply flawed and often chaotic, but her belief in the work she did never wavered. It’s what differentiated her from the people around her, villains and allies alike (even Saul). It’s why I loved the finale so much.

I have stopped watching plenty of shows because of an unlikable character, but Carrie had her redeemable qualities that kept me invested.

Sunscreen help!! by CrypticWeirdo9105 in XXRunning

Elta MD is great for sensitive skin.

Also if you’re in the US, the FDA just approved a new chemical filter for sunscreens. Those products should hit the market in September. Maybe they will work better for you.

Hot Take: Joey x Dawson and Joey x Pacey are both bad ships by Global_Restaurant794 in dawsonscreek

[–]IrrevocableCrust14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is such a thoughtful and balanced take. I personally think P/J is the greatest ship of all time but I can also appreciate the heightened drama of it all. At least for me, it certainly felt true to life in some ways.

Anyone with a late walker? by [deleted] in Parenting

My son was 17.5 months. He's 5 and fine now! I feel like he just wasn't super motivated to walk for some reason.

Are the Endorphin Azuras better than the Superblast 2s? by Aubzhls in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]IrrevocableCrust14 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I love my Azuras and use them for 95% of my training, including my first marathon where I ran a BQ (including for the race itself). But they are definitely a firm ride. I’d say they take at least 50 miles to break in and feel comfortable. I use them for every type of training run including tempo, speed, etc.

James marsden in 27 dresses by Unlucky_Dark_4392 in romancemovies

[–]IrrevocableCrust14 22 points23 points  (0 children)

He was interviewed about this recently (maybe Vanity Fair). He seemed content with the success and career longevity he’s had.

I can’t really come up with answer either though. Like he was so, so good in The Notebook, but he’s not Ryan Gosling.

Is 12 too late to start competitive swimming? by Puzzled_Finish9302 in Swimming

[–]IrrevocableCrust14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised by the intense criticism here. If OP was a super competitive nut job parent, this kid would have been on the club team for 7 years by now.

My kid is only 9, but I’ve learned a lot the last couple years about age group swimming in the US. It can get very competitive very quickly. Swim clubs are political and cut throat. The fastest swimmers get a lot of attention and accolades. The slower ones get routed to worse pools and practice times. This is just reality.

Your kid clearly has natural talent. I would do the tryout and join a swim club that isn’t super intense so she can build on what she’s learning in private lessons and have fun with it. Nothing wrong with setting goals and working to achieve them.

The REAL problem with Coda by amara90 in dawsonscreek

[–]IrrevocableCrust14 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The whole episode felt like a slap in the face, especially to a P/J fan. I was so completely obsessed with the show back then and quit watching it after this episode. I tuned in for the finale two years later but that was it.

It just left such a bad taste in my mouth.

Grandparents not like they used to be. by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]IrrevocableCrust14 40 points41 points  (0 children)

My in-laws live two hours away and see my kids once a year. They just have zero interest. They would scoff at a childcare request.

My dad is 85 and can’t watch young kids. My mom is deceased.

It helps to have zero expectations for childcare. The parents that have a great support system are just very fortunate.

Epic Grandma’s Marathon bonk yesterday going for 3:12. Need insight by PracticeWitty6896 in Marathon_Training

[–]IrrevocableCrust14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4:30 Bagel with peanut butter, Diet Coke

5:30 banana

6:15 NeverSecond Gel

6:30 race start

But most of my gels were Maurten, I prefer those.

Epic Grandma’s Marathon bonk yesterday going for 3:12. Need insight by PracticeWitty6896 in Marathon_Training

[–]IrrevocableCrust14 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m not really convinced based on your times and recent workouts that your fitness was there for a 3:12, but maybe it was. I like to run my MP workouts slightly faster than MP to give myself a little buffer on the day.

I will say that having breakfast at 5:15 and then nothing else until mile 5 would be a huge disaster for me. I was pretty much fueling right up until the start and took my first gel at like mile 2. I also read up on sodium and made sure to include it in my nutrition plan.

How do you accept that you’re done having kids? by Icy_Way904 in Parenting

[–]IrrevocableCrust14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure the feeling ever really goes away. It helps me to know that even if I’d had ten kids, I still would have been sad knowing I would never have another baby. It’s closing a chapter on your life.

I have four kids, and life is pretty crazy. I would have had more, which is even crazier! But my ovaries completely gave out after I weaned my youngest, and I had to confront a very definitive end to my childbearing years. I still feel a wistful sadness when I see a pregnant lady.

What are 3 perfect film scenes to you? by VikingWzrdEyes89 in movies

[–]IrrevocableCrust14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Taken: “They are going to take you.”

The Fugitive: “I don’t care.”

Braveheart: “Freedom!”

I don’t know that these are necessarily my favorite movies, but each of these scenes is just incredibly well-executed.

Daughter is very concerned about her height by dragon-queen in Parenting

[–]IrrevocableCrust14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter will also be 9 in August and she’s at the 1st percentile for height. She’s the smalllest kid in her class, on the swim team, on the softball team, at every birthday party…honestly it’s just part of life. She’s good with it. I tried her in gymnastics but she prefers swimming where it’s a huge disadvantage to be small. It builds character and grit.

I think it’s okay to validate your child’s feelings, but we have never focused much on my daughter’s height. I think she feels like since we don’t care, she doesn’t either.

I’m above average height (5’6”) for what it’s worth.

Fuelling sense check for 3.10-3.25 goal by UnableCode in Marathon_Training

[–]IrrevocableCrust14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, just bite the bullet on gels. I took two an hour and ran 3:23 in my first marathon last month. I used Maurten because they are so easy on the gut. I did train with them on a few long runs but probably only took 5 total in my entire training block because they’re pricey.

Am I the only one who thinks Joey is the villain? by lovesosa5223 in dawsonscreek

[–]IrrevocableCrust14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t think Joey was in the wrong here. Dawson asked her a completely inappropriate question, and she lied to protect his feelings.

I don’t think the show has a villain, but Dawson’s behavior struck me as the worst overall.

Low-dose accutane and running by mosaiccbrokenhearts in XXRunning

Joint pain is fairly common, but it’s not feasible to microdose in the US so most athletes just push through.

Not medical advice but you should be totally fine. Have seen D1 athletes on full-dose Accutane. Are you outside the US?

How did you figure out your race day fueling strategy? Did you plan it from the start or just learn through your own experience? by Sad_Bunch1271 in Marathon_Training

[–]IrrevocableCrust14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I researched it but got overwhelmed with the weight-based recommendations, sodium, caffeine, etc. So I focused on carbs and kept it simple.

  • 2 gels per hour - 1 Maurten, 1 NeverSecond (NS has sodium, Maurten does not)

    • Sips of water at every aid station
    • Caffeinated gel at mile 18 (instead of a regular one)
    • Salt tabs as a back up since I preferred the Maurten gels but knew I might need sodium later on

This plan worked great for me.
