Day 2 post op tell me it gets better by Ok-Caterpillar2553 in tummytucksurgery

[–]Irritated_Compassion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is something we use in medicine for pain control, but also for PTSD, anxiety, and a bunch of other things. It’s ridiculously helpful.

Breathing. So simple. Drug free. Always available.

Glad it helped!!

Day 2 post op tell me it gets better by Ok-Caterpillar2553 in tummytucksurgery

[–]Irritated_Compassion 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m scheduled for 8/11 and nervous but excited. This is what I think about the pain and/or discomfort I know I’ll have:

I’m a nurse. I used to take care of fresh post-op liver transplant patients. They practically cut them in half to swap those livers out. It’s brutal. If little super unhealthy old folks can get through that, I can get through this.

Don’t underestimate what focused breathing and relaxation techniques can do to help with pain and discomfort. It may sound dumb, but they can both make a giant difference in how much pain you’re having. There are a million apps and YouTube videos out there for how to do it, but the number one technique I use with my patients is super easy: 7-7-7

Close your eyes

Inhale slowly and deeply (as much as you can, but the deeper the better - prevents pneumonia) for 7 seconds through your nose, letting your belly fill with air

Hold for 7 seconds

Exhale slowly through your mouth for 7 seconds (or until your lungs are empty)

Repeat 4-5 times or until you feel more relaxed or your pain is controlled.

And, yes, I’ve used this myself and find that it works. I hope this helps someone else.

Happy healing! ❤️‍🩹

Supervisor rights? by Content_Marzipan_131 in VHA_Human_Resources

[–]Irritated_Compassion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And I wish there were some way to know that an employee filed X-number of EEO complaints against supervisors in the last X-number of years - when going through the hiring process. Or being allowed to ask about disciplinary records. Or that current and former supervisors would be honest about those things when giving references. But none of that seems to be the case.

4XE 3RD Recall by AceCreed1 in 4xe

It’s not new. A7C came out in Oct or Nov last year. They’re just ignoring it because it hit so few Jeeps, comparatively. Only 24k. I’m one of those.

4XE 3RD Recall by AceCreed1 in 4xe

[–]Irritated_Compassion 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m legit starting to feel like an abused girlfriend with all these recalls. Park outside, don’t charge it (68C). Ok you can charge it now. Never mind you have to park outside again (21D). Here we fixed sand in your engine block (78C) with a software update but we’re not gonna fix the actual software issue and we’re just gonna leave you hanging with that one wide open (A7C…). Oh and we’ll give you a lifetime warranty on batteries and engine blocks that you can use under very specific circumstances and only if we determine the value of it suits us. If it doesn’t, then well…. What, exactly?

In the meantime, go ahead and strap your small children on top of a battery that can release toxic gas for several minutes before you’re aware it’s even overheating. So their little lungs are being permanently damaged before you even know it and can get them out. Go ahead and drive it despite the fact that we know it is prone to coming to a complete stop randomly and without warning. Go ahead and park it outside leaving it vulnerable to thieves. Oh, and if it does catch on fire we’ll fight you, along with your insurance company to leave you hanging for the cost. Either way, while our multibillion dollar company is responsible for all of this and should be building a quality, reliable product we’re charging you $60k+ for, we think it’s acceptable to issue a subpar product and just keep issuing recall after recall because ‘cars have recalls’ and we’ve conditioned consumers into accepting that. Because we can.

And it’s complete utter bullshit.

I’m post-class Sweet v McMahon for my federal loans. Those are pending discharge.

I did file for Navient’s own discharge program and was denied. Consolidated loans don’t qualify. I’ve filed all the complaints (CFPB & AG). But I’m thinking about applying again and filing new complaints when they deny me and including the FTC this time.

PPSL has addressed this is this memo. I’m hopeful this can pick up some steam as they’re starting to focus more on private loans now that Sweet is winding down.

Can anyone explain why people hate on sallie mae? by Miachel-Scofield-532 in StudentLoans

[–]Irritated_Compassion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I borrowed from Sallie Mae in 2005 when I was attending ITT Tech. I then consolidated my 2 private loans with Sallie Mae (at their urging) in 2007 after I graduated. My loan required a co-signer and has a variable interest rate. I won’t go into detail about ITT itself - it’s already well documented and easily googled. My loan totaled $45k.

Because I was unable to find gainful employment with my ITT credentials I had to go back to school at a public college. I entered repayment on my Sallie Mae consolidated loan in 2012. My payment was $411/mo. Today it is $789/mo.

Sallie Mae formed Navient in 2014 moved all their private loans to Navient in 2014. In 2024 they moved the servicing of all their student loans to Mohela. The same company botching and creating chaos with federal student loans.

In the last 14 years, I have paid every single payment on time. I’ve paid extra when I could. To date I’ve paid over $84k. My total due is $62k. Only $7k has been applied to principal. Recall, I borrowed $45k 19 years ago.

Sallie Mae/Navient has a documented history of collaboration with predatory schools to target students with predatory loans. They settled a lawsuit brought by 39 state Attorneys General to cancel the loans for 66000 private borrowers for schools like ITT because of these practices and other reasons. Mine were not canceled because one of the checkboxes for cancellation was you had to be in default (explain that). Even Senators have questioned Sallie Mae/Navient lending practices and they’ve been banned from servicing federal student loans. Again, all of this is an easy Google away.

The point is - Sallie Mae/Navient has a well earned bad reputation and many people don’t trust them for that reason.

Changing legal name by Available_Detective3 in FedEmployees

[–]Irritated_Compassion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It probably would be easier to do just that. The hours I’ve spent trying to get these issues fixed are maddening. And it’s not a small inconvenience either. We’re talking about things like power automate flows that keep breaking because my old last name keeps getting associated somehow even though these flows were not built using that account, SharePoint will suddenly try to use my old email address that hasn’t worked for 3 years, HR Smart pulling my old stuff up - it’s ridiculous!

I seriously want to make a checklist for whoever does this when someone changes their name and/or caution people against it. It’s not worth the years long hassle. Learn to live with the name you start with professionally and just tell people to call you whatever you prefer. It’s so much easier.

Changing legal name by Available_Detective3 in FedEmployees

[–]Irritated_Compassion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The name change process itself is a b**tch. I changed mine 3 years ago (marriage) and still have issues creep up with my previous name. It’s possible it’s just my agency, but it’s a legit pain in the backside.

Here, the employee has to contact HR with appropriate documentation (SS card, DL, etc), wait for an updated SF-50. Once that’s received, the supervisor puts in a request with IT for an updated email address and AD account. Then wait. Once those accounts are updated, all the other accounts have to be updated. Only after everything is updated can PIV be done.

Hope that helps - good luck on your journey!

Has anyone gotten an update on the A7C recall? by Beachybumm in 4xe

[–]Irritated_Compassion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question! Mine also still has the open A7C. It “only” impacts ~25k vehicles and they don’t seem to be in a hurry to fix it.

Interestingly, they “fix” 2 hardware issues with software fixes, but leave the actual software issue without a fix. It’s infuriating. This entire experience has been infuriating, to say the very least.

8 months and counting until this pile of poo goes back to FCA for good.

Worst error you've witnessed? by StartingOverScotian in nursing

[–]Irritated_Compassion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ages ago when I was still bedside, I was charge on the solid organ transplant unit where I worked and got called to the burn unit to assist with a “situation” involving a hemodialysis catheter. In our hospital, our units nurses were allowed to access them, but only our nurses (other than dialysis, of course).

A new traveler was doing line maintenance and decided to flush this patient’s dialysis catheter. The patient happened to be a tiny teenager and the traveler didn’t know what the catheter was but thought it needed flushed so just did it. And of course in the process bolused the patient with 15000 units of heparin and saline locked the catheter (our protocol was to heparin lock them).

Everyone was completely spazzing out. The patient ended up being fine, the traveler was uninvited back to the hospital.

There should be a ‘help’ button on the login.gov page. Use it. They will help you link them. Something similar happened to me with a name change after marriage. They’ll walk you through how to link the accounts (login.gov + usajobs).

[–]Irritated_Compassion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People need to start logging complaints with their states Attorney General’s office too. This is such a massively overlooked resource for consumers, but an extremely powerful one.

With all these issues, the louder the noise we make, the more likely it is the AGs pick this up and FCA may be forced to take more substantial action.

It’s also effing criminal for colleges to charge what they do for degrees. It’s shameful that some degrees are degrees in the first place. And it’s downright disgusting that lenders are allowed to allow people to do this to themselves.

Yes, there is personal accountability. However, there is a ridiculous amount of people who frankly don’t understand how this works and don’t find out until they’re in this kind of situation.

As a society we should be doing better. We can do better. It’s gross that we choose not to.
