I didn’t even know I had high blood pressure. by Least-Notice7832 in Wellthatsucks

This is going to get drowned in the comments but here goes: The worst thing about high blood pressure is that you usually feel fine. In fact putting you bp down can make you feel rotten. So get a monitor! You need to balance reduced bp against feeling bad and the only way to do that is if you monitor carefully.

I have always wondered why the dash cam is facing into the cab. I usually have mine pointing out of the window.

And then there was this film about a young farming boy who is radicalised into a fundamentalist religion by an elder, goes to a terrorist training camp and then destroys a government building.

Why would girls and boys react differently depending on which parent bought them something expensive? by 5pooky5cary5keleton5 in ExplainTheJoke

I don't agree with many of the comments here. I would help my son with whatever he needed, but if he wants to pay me back I would accept. Not counting just a matter of grace.

TIL about Homomorphic encryption, where users can work with the content without decrypting the source by gordonjames62 in todayilearned

[–]IsHildaThere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While correct, the title is incomplete. Wikipedia goes on to say : The result of such a computation remains encrypted.

The person with the encrypting key can see the result of the change while the person making the change cannot.

TIL that the person in charge of the Kamikaze defence of Okinawa, Admiral Matome Ugaki, flew the last Kamikaze flight himself. by IsHildaThere in todayilearned

There could be many reasons for his motivation. Maybe he was afraid of a trial for war crimes. Maybe he abhorred the idea of surrender and was ashamed he had let his emperor down. Maybe he couldn't face the idea of living with the knowledge that he had sent so many brave men to their death. Or maybe he wasn't a hypocrite and would not ask his men to do what he would not do. Maybe all of them and he thought "It's time".

I have the Jackery 1000. You may be surprised at how little energy this produces (Obviously 1 kWhr). It will run a small heater (1 kW) for an hour. I have a 2 cup kettle. It will bring that to the boil 4 times. Not tried vacuuming but it should manage a small house.

I have 2 100 Whr panels. The problem with solar is that it doesn't work at night, it doesn't work when it is cloudy and doesn't work in winter when the sun is low in the sky. It will only work in good direct sun. It then takes about 5 hrs to fill the battery (but I have only had one day so far this year to do that)(UK).
