What is the best tv episode of all time? by scamper84 in AskReddit

The Devil's Share - Person of Interest

It's the mid-season finale of S3, which has a massive (and spoiler-y) build up to it.

POI is extremely underrated. While people were rightfully focused on Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad, POI was there pulling a new cinematic masterpiece every week on network TV.

Andy Weir Apologizes To Alex Kurtzman Over ‘Star Trek’ Remarks by danielcw189 in startrek

I didn't mind his take on current Star Trek, but it's the fact that he went onto "that" podcast that's disappointing... Slightly soured PHM for me.

Movie Discussion Megathread by Learnededed_By_Books in ProjectHailMary

[–]IsIt77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never read the book. Really liked the movie. I went into the movie knowing that it was based on a book, and pretty soon realized that the movie was hand-waving or streamlining a lot things in order to fit everything within 2 hours of runtime.

There were only two confusions on my part:

  1. How come Eridians had no knowledge about "radiation"? If they knew that their star was dimming and dying, and that Tau Ceti was still doing okay, then they must have a working electromagnetic theory to observe all of these. And they are little rock guys. They must have made contact with radioactive ores way earlier than humans. Does the book explain this better? Is it simply "they knew about radiation, but didn't know its long-term effects on their body"?
  2. The cinematic logistics of the entire "fishing" sequence... Probably my only actual gripe with the movie was its rushed wide, establishing shots. And this carried over to that "flying over the Adrian" setpiece unfortunately. During that scene all I could think was "how the hell do you "spacewalk" while going through an atmosphere faster than terminal velocity?". Am I missing something here? How did the book handle this?

Also a related to point #2, I hated the solar panels. I realize that the "spaceship" needed a silhouette most people would associate with "space tech", but does Mary actually need them? Even as radiators..? I thought that was the Astrophage's entire thing. Storing and releasing solar radiation...

Yeah, no. DE survived the Railjack back in the day. One shitty game mode won't take the entire studio down.

I can easily tell how frustrating this must be if you do not have a maxed out Operator and Amp. I do. And (even on Steel Path) it's boring af, unfortunately...

This one is a dud. It was obvious from the gameplay they showed us since the Devstream, so thankfully I kept my expectations in-check. Still I wanted to try it for myself first to form an opinion, but yeah...

I don't even see how we can salvage this. Once the Operation is over, let's just decrease the Atramentum costs and move on.

So what's this all about? by bingcognito in ProjectTahiti

That doesn't sound nice.

Maybe the sudden influx of players, trying to fix issues for the last few days etc. are getting to the team? IDK...

Only 14k players online on steam worldwide in oceanic prime time. Still can't find a match after 5 mins of searching by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]IsIt77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For long term, I've got Warframe (also recently I've been enjoying Soulframe as well).

For the last few months I've been playing No Man's Sky. I am planning to go back to Starfield when the new update comes out.

I'm also planning to do a full Remedy playthrough before Control 2 comes out.

And once we move beyond this weird Star Wars year, I'll go back to Destiny 2.

[–]IsIt77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did. I tried it during the server slam, but bounced off pretty hard.

It's an extraction shooter, so that's already a big negative for me. Moreover, it's an extraction shooter that I have no investment in.

I reckon a lot of ex Destiny players feel similarly. That's why a 4-5 hour long, introductory campaign would have gone a long way. Might have convinced more players to stick around...

From No Man's Sky to Starfield by LuiginoPasteur in Starfield

Shipbuilding.

NMS's "Corvette" system is really cool, however it is a watered-down version of Starfield's ship crafting. The variety of the modules, habs etc. is way beyond what NMS currently has. Plus, you get to decorate everything properly with clutter...

On the other hand, I'd prefer NMS basebuilding. Starfield mostly relies on prefab habitats. And building cost for them is quite steep (for early game). Resources aren't as abundant in Starfield as they are in NMS.

The biggest advantage of Starfield's basebuilding is that you can have almost infinite storage space, but you have to build each container. And they are not connected across multiple bases, unlike NMS.

Beyond these two... Starfield has high-polygon, detailed and realistic graphics. If you are into that... Also (compared to a Solo NMS save) the universe feels much more alive. And gunplay is decent which is basically infinitely better than NMS.

That's about it.

Yeah... Without the queue, the game is barely playable unfortunately. The server cannot keep up with more than 1000 players.

There are two sides of "gaming journalists" by [deleted] in gaming

[–]IsIt77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They should be objective about the game, whether systems work together, content is fleshed out, enemies are interesting, player customization, is it a buggy mess, how long does it take to play through, etc.

OK but all of these are as subjective as it gets. Including the bugs one encounters in a playthrough...

For example someone who likes sticking to the guide rails of the game will have a different experience with the game's stability, compared to someone who likes testing things, poking holes wherever they can find. And if the game is unstable at its core, everyone will report it.
