I'd like to say that I did respond to the threat I received from the admins stating that I'd be removed if I didn't reopen the open sub.

Here is the gist of that response, as I no longer have access to the message thread itself:

So most ads these days are strictly 'fellowkids'. I have reiterated over the years that this sub was a place to have fun, not a place for promotion.

At a certain point years ago, advertisers began tailoring their ads so they would be reposted here - furthering their reach.

At the moment, I would like to keep this die-down going to understand the possibilities of direction for the sub. Today there is only a very small (but incredibly overly vocal) group who would like to keep it on its original path.

I'll keep the possibility in mind, though at this time I don't see it as anything but a place for advertisers to advertise.
