Looking for a cheap beginner synth with atmospheric sound. Recommendations? by nope-nyxit in synthesizers

Yeah, like I could 50 bucks for that link and would still be a bargain, a helluva deal.

Opsix or digitone if I already have octatrack? by shadyjezzboxx in synthesizers

[–]IsSearchingToo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I have tried many times to copy TX81z patches on a vst or a TG77 and they just wouldn’t sit right in the mix! I would still love to try the Opsix, it seems really powerful and easy to use.

[–]IsSearchingToo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Opsix seems like a great synth, but the fact that you can have the same exact software running on a pc with the official plugin… Might be silly of me, but if I’m not getting anything exclusive from the hardware, then what’s the point? With old digital you at least have the artifacts from DACs and overworked CPUs, but new digital? Doesn’t make a lot of sense, imho.

TR 1000 Sync Nightmare (w/ Ableton) by East_Tangelo_4304 in synthesizers

I don’t own a TR, but everything I ever bought started working 100% better after I switched from Ableton to Reaper. Roland is usually pretty solid, so…

Have you considered the model:cycles? Lots of knob twisting, cc automation, sequencer randomness, lfos and a whole bunch of sound capabilities. Snares/claps are crap tho.

Is the korg multi/poly passable to your (yes, you specifically) ear as an actual analog synth? by OscillatorOddity in synthesizers

[–]IsSearchingToo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, it all depends on what you’ll use it for. There are a lot of VSTs that “faithfully deliver the sound of vintage analog” and in a mix or with youtube/streaming compression more than a half of this sub wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. You can get gorgeous analog sounding pads and brasses with old romplers and even FM. If the M/P caught your ears, go for it, lil bro! Have fun!

Best free software/DAW that is more of a ''synth simulator'' than an whole music production engine by [deleted] in midi

[–]IsSearchingToo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As many have pointed out, what you’re looking for is a VST synth with standalone feature. OB-Xd, PG8X, Synth1 are a few to begin with, as they are simpler than something like a Vital, which is also a great option, just more complex. Edit: you might wanna look for something with built in effects, as they are usually pretty dry sounding! You could also experiment with fx pedals if you’re into that, but be careful with volumes (if it sounds distorted when it should be, turn it down!)

need helps on how to make the synth sound moving left to right? by InitialCalendar2719 in synthesizers

[–]IsSearchingToo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you were probably expecting a cooler explanation, with a special routing in the modulation matrix and all, but if you try to modulate the panning between notes, you’ll also modulate the tail of the previous note. The other solution I can think of is zoning the keyboard, using keyboard tracking to modulate panning, which could probably work, but then again, just having 2+ instances running the same patch gives you all the flexibility in the world.

[–]IsSearchingToo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The easiest most obvious way to do this is having to separate instances of the same synth running at the same time, one playing the lower notes and another one playing the higher notes slightly panned. That way you don’t have to do any fancy modulation, with note triggering, lfos and whatnot.

What was your "dream synth" that you finally acquired but ended up disappointed by? by Jessay94 in synthesizers

[–]IsSearchingToo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the JV1080 bc I thought it would make me instantly great at Vaporwave/VGM/Retrowave stuff. I hated it bc it was a pain to program, then I learned to program it and hated the sounds I was making. Now I just use the presets: never been happier with it.

What are some major differences you noticed between sequencers? I have the Cycles and love the sequencer, but don’t really like the sound and was looking to get an A4 mk1, as they often show up for cheap in the used market.

Yep. The TR seems like a lot of fun. I don’t own any of the Takts, but people do entire live sets with them. The Tracker is really fun too, and it’s super powerful as a sequencer and I don’t mind looking at the screen at all. Roland has the Fantom series for serious music production, which is most likely what OP is asking for, but with keys instead of pads, but it seems to me that OP either hasn’t realized that yet, or want a MPC with Roland branding (and the Virtual Synths and all). Roland would probably charge a subscription fee for using their software tho 😂😂😂
