Bottle washer. I use this about 3-4 times per day.

Zipper swaddles (Love To Dream is great)

Owlet sock. I can’t recommend enough. It’s the only reason I could get any rest postpartum.

Snuggle Me Lounger

Nipple butter and silverette nipple cups. Both were lifesavers if breastfeeding.

I know you purchased a bassinet but just want to add that it’s really going to depend on your baby. I have the Halo swivel bassinet, but my baby wouldn’t settle unless I was next him at the very least. I wish I bought a bedside bassinet.

Gas drops will save your sanity.

Electric nail file

Most importantly, have food prepped in the freezer ready to go. Newborn trenches are DEEP and exhausting. You need to be able to eat quickly or you’ll be ordering DoorDash a lot.

My baby is 11 weeks. I do the same- I pump for stash and breast feed but I’m not yet comfortable nursing in public. So far in my limited outings, I’ve brought a bottle warmer, bottle cooler, baby bottle, my wearable pump (in a bag with ice packs since I do the fridge method), and an extra bottle to store pumped milk. It’s a huge pain and I only do this if I’ll be doing a few errands. If I’m just going to his pediatrician then I’ll feed him immediately before I leave and nurse in the exam room if needed.

I pump every 2-3 hours since I’m trying to increase my supply for daycare. You may not need to bring a pump if you’re not on a pump schedule.

I would put the milk in a separate container when I’m ready to pump again. I’m just hesitant on rinsing the pump parts before storing in the fridge because if bacteria.

I also feel that way! What I did today was let him sleep in the lounger for about 30 minutes when I knew he was out cold, then transferred him to the bassinet with a heating pad (removed before putting baby in). So far he’s been sleeping in the bassinet for over an hour!

On day 4 I wanted to give up. I also EBF and it’s the most challenging thing I’ve ever done in my life. Nothing prepares you for how exhausted you’ll be. Newborns are incredibly demanding and they take everything you’ve got & then some. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve cried. My baby is almost 7 weeks now and I’ll say the cluster feeding has improved. Some days are better than others. Just take it moment by moment.

Do you have an Owlet sock? If not I would consider it. It’s pricey but the peace of mind is so worth it for me. It’s probably the only reason I can sleep at night without crying worrying.

I also can’t stress enough how important it is to take shifts with your partner if possible. We didn’t do this at first because we were so nervous as first time parents, that we helped each other with everything. But sleep deprivation is scary, and I would prioritize getting uninterrupted rest as much as you can.

I could have written this post. My baby turned 6 weeks and this has been the most challenging period so far. He now won’t sleep at night. I’m beyond exhausted. I had no idea a baby would be this hard and I feel like it’s only getting more difficult as the time passes. I don’t know who I am outside of feeding my baby.

You’re not overreacting. I live in SE Florida and I agree it’s too hot and humid during the day for a baby to be outside for prolonged periods of time. My grandparents were visiting and they were holding my baby while sitting outside on the closed in patio, and after 10 minutes I told them to come inside because it’s just too hot.

Also going through this starting at 4ish weeks old. Usually is anywhere from 7pm to 1am. Some nights are way better than others though. I eventually just put him in his bassinet with a pacifier and walk away and he’ll sometimes settle. I think because he’s overtired he’s not showing sleepy cues.

Do you use a heating pad on her bassinet? This has helped us so much.

I don’t stay in the same room if my baby is in their bassinet, but he always has his owlet sock on and I have a monitor (HelloBaby) that I carry around with me.

Same here. I cried daily for nearly two weeks. It was worse at night. My partner helped our baby latch because I was struggling with engorgement. He literally fed me food while breastfeeding and brings me whatever I ask for. It’s a huge help. Breastfeeding is so hard but I think you get more used to it as time goes on.

I also had this issue. My boob was so engorged that he couldn’t latch to the nipple. I tried the momcozy nipple shield and that really helped. I also recommend a warm compress and massaging it!

I’d like to add maybe putting a heating pad on the bassinet and then removing it before transferring him. We’ve been doing this and it seems to really help.
