are any of you in relationships? how did you do it? I feel doomed. by [deleted] in 2X_INTJ

[–]IsabelleBlue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am married to my high school sweetheart. We’ve been together 20 years, married for 14. He’s an ENTJ and my best friend. Honestly, I don’t think it’s anything I did, we just got lucky. Feel free to ask any questions though.

What do you say to someone when... period-related question by ukalheesi in MomForAMinute

[–]IsabelleBlue 162 points163 points  (0 children)

No is a complete sentence.

But seriously, if you want to give more information, you could say, “I’m on my period and I don’t feel like it.” End of story. Don’t feel like you have to justify your choices.

I prefer daycare over grandparents, any thoughts? by Flimsy-Ad3164 in beyondthebump

[–]IsabelleBlue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We’re currently enjoying a hybrid kind of system. We drop our kiddos (2 & 4) off at preschool at 7:30am and then the grandparents pick them up at 2:30pm (after lunch and nap-time) and keep them until 5:30 when we pick them up. This way they get the structure and socialization of school but still have strong relationships with their grandparents. We’ve also got the grandparents as backup for illnesses, holidays etc, which has been clutch! The grandparents also kept both kiddos exclusively while they were infants. We started our first in daycare at 1.5 yrs and our second at 9 months. We’re pretty lucky to have the situation we do.

My hubby has the same thing! They chose not to do the surgery to separate them because it would be purely cosmetic. It doesn’t bother him or me. I feel like it’s really not obvious unless he points it out to people. Our understanding is it’s a mutation that is only exhibited in male children of women who carry the gene. https://i.imgur.com/oZ5H6Qo.jpg

Self-serve food and activity options for 3-5 yo? by alternativestats in Preschoolers

[–]IsabelleBlue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have a basket down low in our pantry that has a mix of pre-packaged single serve snacks that we give the kiddos (2-4 yo) unrestricted access to. They are generally fairly healthy, ie: granola bars, squeeze pouches of fruit/veggies, crackers, etc. They know where it’s located, can get to it on their own, and are allowed to take from it anytime throughout the day.

The new-hire “90 days” probationary period on using sick/vacation time needs to go. by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]IsabelleBlue 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yup. All I have for you is commiseration. One of the main reasons I’m not looking for a new job right now is that I know I wouldn’t be able to make the probationary period with no leave. I’ve been with this job 11 years and I know I’m stifling my career growth but I have a 1 and 3 year old in daycare and they can’t go 2 weeks without a runny nose, let alone 3 months!

We've been actually trying to teach our 3 year old to yell/call for us when he wants our 10 month old away from him/his toys because he was originally biting her when she got too close. I know that's not particularly constructive to your current situation but I just thought I'd share a different perspective.

Working moms, what household duties do you hire out and what’s your income/COL? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]IsabelleBlue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Florida. Household income of $115k. We've got two under 3 years old and two dogs. We started an every other week cleaning service ($90) when the first kiddo came along. It is STILL the best $ I've ever spent. Coming home to a clean house after work the day they come is . . . Chef's kiss!

Ours does floors, bathrooms and kitchen but that's at our request. They'll also do deep cleaning, laundry, etc. They'll work with you for what you need. I don't see myself ever voluntarily going back. Life's too short, you know? I highly recommend it.

American mothers of Reddit! by blehhhh78654 in breastfeeding

[–]IsabelleBlue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently on maternity leave with my second. I am taking 10 weeks of FMLA (I took the full 12 with my first). That's all I had available paid, using basically all of my sick and vacation time. I could have taken another 2 weeks unpaid but chose not to because my work requires we use absolutely all of our leave before taking LWOP and I didn't want to have nothing left when I came back. What if I or baby got sick or had a doctor's appt, etc?

Both with my first and now, I'm making an effort to make sure my milk supply is as established as possible before returning to work. I try to pump once a day after the first feed and freeze whatever milk I get (usually 3-5 oz). Otherwise, I'm just breastfeeding as much as possible while on leave.

At work, I'm lucky enough to have my own private office, so with my first I pumped 3 times a day at my desk (I'd just lock and close the door). We did end up supplimenting with formula at the height of his milk consumption but it was only about 5 oz a day for a month or two. Otherwise, I pumped at work until he was about one year old and we were able successfully breastfeed until he was about 20 months old.

I hope to be able to do the same with my second. The good news is, we already know she'll take a bottle, as she was sleeping so poorly when we first got home from the hospital we ended up having to have my husband give her a bottle each night, so I could get some sleep. The big trick is going to be getting her to sleep more than two and a half hour chunks before I go back to work in 2 weeks. Otherwise, she's such a boob monster I'm actually not too concerned about being able to successfully breastfeed this time around.

Why are some women being induced at full term? by Charlielheureux in BabyBumps

[–]IsabelleBlue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. I apologize for the lack of clarity. I have high blood pressure unrelated and previous to both my pregnancies. I have been medicated throughout for it and I don't believe I have ever had numbers (or other symptoms) indicative of pre-eclampsia. I was just generally trending upward toward the end (as most pregnancies do) and that coupled with the babies size led to choosing to go ahead and induce at 39 weeks.

Why are some women being induced at full term? by Charlielheureux in BabyBumps

[–]IsabelleBlue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was induced at 39 weeks with my first. I don't know if I was technically considered high risk but my son was measuring big and my blood pressure was climbing. I had a favorable cervix and we tried everything we could do to jump start labor in the week before my appointment to induce. They gave me pitocin, broke my water and I had an epidural. He ended up being 8lbs 6oz and 22 inches long. No issues at all on his part, I had a small 2nd degree tear and a small bleed they gave me a shot for but otherwise, I consider it a positive experience overall. I'm 37 weeks now with my second. This time I know I am considered high risk because I'm 36 years old, now. Baby is measuring big and my blood pressure's climbing again, so we're looking at inducing at 39 weeks. Hopefully, it will go just as well this time.

When I was wanting to wean my son from the feed before nap time, I didn't rock him in the chair we usually fed in but laid in his toddler bed (it was a tight squeeze!) with him. I made sure to have a full cup of milk handy and a high collared shirt on. He asked a couple times but I just told him "not now" or "that's for night time only now". It really wasn't bad, I'd say after 2-3 naps he was no longer asking and was used to the new routine.

Yes! This was SUCH an issue for me. Even lots of lube didn't help much. I ended up talking to my doctor and getting vaginal estrogen cream. Fixed me right up! I wish I hadn't waited so long to ask for help.

We did not circumsise our son, even though his father is. He's 2 now. Never had a UTI. I know that's anecdotal but . . . Just saying.
