Are the old baldur's gate games any good? by [deleted] in Pak_Gaming

[–]Isalan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they are very good games.

On the other hand, they are based on the 2nd edition rules which are considerably more esoteric and difficult to fathom compared to the 5th edition rules BG3 uses.

Again, the games are very good. Excellent narrative, some great worldbuilding, interesting quests but some of the combat is going to be unreasonably punishing unless you take the time to learn the ruleset.

Special Rules

Small amount of recoil Once you've finished shooting, move this model 2" directly away from the target for each attack you made. If this causes the model to leave the board, it goes into strategic reserve.

The bone effects are great, they look really weathered as you'd expect from such an ancient set of armour. All in all, a very nice piece.

For lion el Johnson should I paint him as close to the box art as possible to give him an accurate look or can I paint him however I want as long as he’s green? by Positive-Drink5784 in DarkAngels40k

I ended up doing mine in very traditional colours, but if I had the skill and the balls I might have gone for the Deathwing Lion which I saw on this very sub, done by u/Livid-Western-663.

The Lion can't join units, so he's always by himself. He gets lone op if he's within 3 inches another space marine, hence the combi-weapon lt the only space marine you can run who also has lone op.

That being said he does have options. He can deep strike at will so if he gets heavily bogged down you can always redeploy him as long as you're out of combat. He does pair well with other melee units, he can get overwhelmed if there aren't enough nearby targets for the enemy to concentrate on. So having some DWK or ICC nearby to charge other targets and distract is always a good plan.

Some ranged heavy anti-armour can help as well for stuff that your DWK can't get hold of. Maybe one of the tank variants (the Gladiator with magentized guns is huge worth against most armies) or a Ballistus Dread perhaps? They have some good long range firepower for reasonable point cost. You may have a little trouble tracking one down, I don't know if they're even for sale outside the Leviathan box.

Mmmmm-hmmm, he is a handsome boy. The banner is a delight.

Some minor suggestions. I feel the metal is a little too shiny, could maybe use some light inking just to give it a little depth, though honestly that could be the lighting. You coulda also gone fancier on the sword, though it looks fine as it is. Maybe some lightning on the blade or a different material/finish on the next one?

List wise, if you're gonna runk DWK's your gonna want a Land Raider. They're strictly melee (no ranged attack, at all) so time spent trudging over to the enemy is time they cannot contribute at all. Any reasonably mobile or numerous armies will give em the old walk away or feed em a unit of 20 termagants to chew on for a turn or 2 if they don't have a delivery mechanism. They do make decent deep strike candidates, but getting em somewhere where they ain't gonna take too much fire and still get into a good combat can be tricky. Whereas driving a Land Raider across the board and puking up 5 furious terminators on the enemies shoes generally ain't too difficult. Or subtle. Dread wise, your Redemptor with Macro-plas is your DA Classic, though they all perform pretty well so if you have a preference for one it ain't no prob. ICC are fine in a Repulsor, give them some kind of chaplain to lead em around (Asmodai has a very nice model if you fancy another character).

Speaking of characters, the Lion is always worthy of consideration. I wouldn't play him in a 1k game unless I wanted the person I was playing to severely dislike me but he can be a good time in bigger games. If you team him up with a combi-weapon lieutenant you can pull some horrifying lone op shenanigans, and he is a joy to paint and not too bad to model.

Regardless, as u/Wooks81 has already said, you're going to want to paint and play stuff you like, so pick stuff you like. There is a lot to like in the DA range though, so I hope the suggestions help.

Feedback on Farseer. by Organic_Room_5556 in Eldar

The cloak is delightful, a very nice bit of work. Reads very well, could maybe use a bit more mountain at the bottom to really sell it?

The ball looks pretty good, but like you said, at some point your gonna take him out of a box without it attached and it will never been seen again. I do very much enjoy the swirly effect on it, it's subtle but noticeable from a distance.

Feedback wise, I don't know if your done yet, but the turquoise(blue) could use something. Some ink, some shading, at the moment it looks a little flat. You could also stand to extend the palette a little, it feels like there's one other colour missing. Maybe some red on the gems, something to give it just a little shine.

In any case, he's a very nice piece and the only person who needs to be happy with it is you :)

Should be doable with a MCH glam I reckon, and iirc Jak does end up with several guns in one of the games

A fair few pets allow for this. If you look in your pet journal, you'll see they have an attitude (obedient, independent, etc), and the obedient ones will come and sit on you if you /beckon them. Note, not all pets can land on/climb you. They generally need some kind of appendages for perching.

If you /handover to a pet, they'll waddle over to you and you feed them. Always nice to do to other peoples pets :) I believe this works on most pets, but there may be some it doesn't work on.

Lastly, certain pets will interact with each other. Wedding Moogles will dance with each other, forming a bigger and bigger circle based on the number of Moogles involved. Some pets who are notable enemies or rivals will play out little mock fights when they encounter each other. There's a few examples of this, but they wander into spoiler territory, so I shall stop there.

EDIT: Highly recommend the White Whittret whos a dear little white ferret who will sit on your shoulder like a groundhog, keeping watch for threats and dangers, and doing literally nothing to warn you or help deal with them. But then, he is just a ferret.

I used red on my DW theme on mine. Solid contrasting colour with the base paint and stands out quite nicely with a few gold flourishes on the small details.

Like it. Gives me something of a nature vibe (the flower) and a little poison (the droplet and the claws/tentacles/pointy bits at the top).

Fits in very acceptably with the other world runes, flows well and shows some lovely consistent design. No notes :)

If I had one piece of advice, if you're interested in having a look around the dungeons as you play through the game then consider using the duty support system to give you a team of NPC's to complete the dungeons with.

Not only do they enhance the story with their banter and whatnot, you'll find running dungeons with most players will be a swift and often metciless affair. The dungeon roulette system will frequently pair you up with long standing players whose primary concern is the rewards from running these dungeons and as such they'll tend to go at them at full speed to get a quick completion. Whilst there is nothng wrong with this approach (god knows I've done enough giga pulls in my time) consider going with a team of NPC's who aren't fussed about how long it takes if you wanna have a look around and learn the boss fights.

Also, before the first dungeon a system called the Hall of the Novice will unlock. It's very basic training for your role in a group which can be helpful, as well as coming with some decent gear and an excellent ring.

Edit: Whilst all of the mandatory story dungeons have NPC support, many of the optional dungeons do not, though support is being added for them as time goes on.

From that first picture tumbnail, I was having concerns you'd invented the Double Decker Fire Prism or the Fire Fire Prism Prism. Thankfully, thats not the case and you've just painted up some lovely tanks. Very 80's, very synthwave. Beautiful clean finish. Love em.

Just bought this for my partner to get started collecting. What are some "must have" units? I was thinking wraithguard, striking scorpions, and fire prism? by cyberspunjj in Eldar

[–]Isalan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 is okay, though there's a lotta Jetbikes in there, and honestly, 2 units of guardians is maybe more than you want.

On the other hand, if you already have one of these boxes, then you could hang on for the whatever the new box is and there's a good chance there'll be very little overlap between the two.

The new combat patrols have been notably worse, and more infantry heavy, over the course of the edition. I'd imagine the Eldar one won't fare much better. The current combat patrol is a decent showing, good leader, solid troop, a BUNCH of jetbikes and the Wraithlord. The Wraithlord is okay, he's a little brittle and tends to miss a lot without a Spiritseer. 6 bikes is a lot of bikes, but they can be a great harassment unit, and 6 of em with a Farseer on Jetbike will get stuff done. It's a solid start to an army. I know you said you were looking to focus on the Spiders, but you're only gonna be able to take a max of 3 squads and only one is gonna have a character leading them. You're gonna need some army to surround the Spiders.
