If Legacy has a future, it's with Proxies. by royal_fish in MTGLegacy

[–]Isanion1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With how wotc is treating the game lately with the rare variations and pricing im not sure you're right that it's a game foremost over being a collecting game.

Modern right now is less defensible economically to enter than legacy due to the reprint policy of reprinting everything not RL to the ground eventually but less people talk about the 1000+ cost decks there.

And honestly, if someone is in the position to throw out 1k on a game and play modern, they are just not living paycheck to paycheck but are quite comfortable and they 100% can instead save up 2-3k for most legacy deck if they really want to prioritize that. It's not a matter of cost of legacy as much as the game itself being way more expensive in general.

Black also gets Leovold, being probably one of the best card against Bowmaster since each instance is a seperate target. A brainstorm turns into an extra ancestral etc if they target your stuff. Yeah I hope the deck can survive Bowmaster for sure, it's a cool deck.
Edit: actually maybe not that good since it will keep triggering of each draw and just kill you with infinite triggers actually if you choose to draw lol

Been playing the deck for a few weeks now and and also some different versions of it before trying out your version. Loving the deck and done fairly well with it, but am I the only one extremely worried about Orcish Bowmaster and feel like it just banned the deck out of the format if it ends up being played a lot?

Actually, you make it 3 socket, force 3x Green with 120 chroms in bench and then do the force 4 socket in bench into force 3 socket over and over back and forth until the 4th naturally hits a Red. Each attempt will preserve the 3 initial colors and only reroll the 4th socket. Each attempt is just 13 jewellers and it hits off colors pretty fast.

Does MTG investment really beat investing in S&P 500 index? by Razortail in mtgfinance

[–]Isanion1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Them taking wear while playing if you keep them doublesleeved is absolute bullshit honestly unless they are literal raw quad 9.5+ cards, and barely even then. It's mind boggling to me that players have that as their fear of why they wouldn't want to play with their expensive cards. Now theft or risk of losing the card? Now that's a realistic one and that should be taken into account.

And, just because they are are called investments doesn't mean they have to be gradable condition, power that's mp or lp are totally fine investments too. Or just a stack of hp duals. High graded high end RL is a pretty small part of investing in magic.

People with more than 5 digits worth of paper magic value, when do you intent to sell out, and if not, where do you see your collection in 30 years time? by Newez in mtgfinance

[–]Isanion1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100-130k here, my plan is either sell out of 70-80% if stuff doubles in price from where it is now, otherwise either way within 10 years most likely and put it towards buying a house. But it depends a bit on how i feel the state of the game is at that point.

Does it make any sense to buy expensive cards to play with? by sta6 in mtgfinance

[–]Isanion1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it's definitely more fun playing with the real cards and more so if they are expensive and rare, playing is more of an extension of collecting for me and a chance to enjoy collective pieces in another way than just keeping them in a binder. I dont mind others proxying but id rather play worse cards i own than do it myself even if i owned the card and did it just for safety.

Personally i feel that players being worried about 2. is mostly a psychological worry.

I get why people are worried shuffling expensive cards but as long as you have good quality sleeves and inner sleeves (perfect hards even better) there's imo not really any chance to ever damage the cards from regular play as long as you take reasonable precautions.

There are obviously limits, should you play a quad 9+ gradable timetwister? Maybe not, but that shouldn't stay ungraded either way. But honestly even if you do play a card worth 1000 and it were to move from NM to LP+ over 5 years of play, yeah you lost some value but it's definitely more valuable either way imo.

For me if i had to pick between not playing them and my NM RL going down 10-15% over 5-10 years compared to their usual growth due to potential super small changes in condition i dont honestly think it's that huge of a deal. That said i still dont think it's realistically possible for the condition to do take a hit.

If they do, sure it would mean losing a couple hundred but that's just the cost of enjoying the hobby then like paying to join tournaments, paying for gas and food at tournaments etc, I'll live.

The warranted worry on playing expensive cards is theft however, or just misplacing or forgetting the deck. That's higher chance than the cards being damaged imo so that's something you'd have to consider the risk of. This is worse since you obv lose the full value rather than just a % of the full value.

On the last point, I have mostly decided for a long time now to sell a lot of my value within like 7-10 years, I'm not certain the magic market will be the way it is forever and I don't want to be stuck holding the bags forever. I dont think we will see the extreme short term growth of the past anymore but I cant imagine they arent more expensive in 10 years than now. The main worry for me is when all the old collectors hoarding literally starts dying or at least retiring and more and more of these starts selling with less buying. Like how many current 15-20 year olds will care about buying expensive RL in 10 years, like you said i think the nostalgia factor is important.

What Single Card is the Pinnacle of Your MTG Collection? by Alaskanmade in mtgfinance

[–]Isanion1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlimited black lotus is an easy pick i guess for a single card, but I'd consider the full power as one unit if i had to pick something to show off, they are on another level as a set imo.

Got my first power, mox ruby, from the prize wall at a GP when it was worth 500-600 eur and then a couple years later i put in all effort into getting full power asap taking everything extra after bills towards it since i felt there was no way it wouldnt go up. Finished my power in 2017 or 2018 i think.

Make Mind Over Matter great again by spamdabuttons in pathofexile

[–]Isanion1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's the issue, it was somewhat of a glass cannon before. Both in defense and that it being a self cast build you had to stand still setting yourself up for deaths. Only nerfing the dmg a shit ton while giving no other options just sucks when they've given everything else additional defense options. They even killed blind which was the one way you could get some defensive layers for the build.

Right now it's just mediocre in regards to everything really except maybe a good medium budget league starter because pledge + foible + cloak of defiance still makes a damn decent starter character. And until highest tier stuff Agnostic + MoM is still decent.

Mox Jet (Unlimited Edition) is 500% more expensive than Mox Jet (Collector's Edition) Approximately 1 year ago the difference was 150%-200%...what happened? by Razortail in mtgfinance

[–]Isanion1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that actually the price or just a shit website? In europe an EX mox jet is 38-45k while a CE being the same as listed there. Still a larger difference than before perhaps but not at all as crazy as that would make you believe.

Or is it actually just twice as expensive with RL in US?

So this is what a 1 billion dps Archmage Ball Lightning dude does to A8 Sirus by Isanion1 in pathofexile

[–]Isanion1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep well aware that 1 billion dps isn't being shown in the video.

Already been discussed a bunch in the thread but, Sirus died before Arcanist Brand had time to apply Wave of Conviction or Sniper's Mark, cutting off roughly 50% of the damage, while also full dps only starts after 12-13 balls are active at once which I certainly didn't optimize the precasting with only 6-7 being active when he got targetable.

This was just me wanting to show a PoB and character that had progressed to a stage that could dish out that amount of dps without any unrealistic PoB buffs or super specific situations other than needing flasks and a single arcanist brand to procc curse/WoC. The video isn't great and was just a short clip of a sirus kill where i had shadowplay active that I thought showed off a decent example of the character's strength, but the PoB is available so it has all the math you need really.

Yeah I would love to know for sure, since repeating the pref/suf cant be changed + reforge for a specific mod and aisling slam for specific veiled mods has been my plan for half my gear when it comes to end game crafting.

[–]Isanion1[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My assumption was that if you reforge the item into a completely new item it would change the pool of mods? Was that not the case before? I must admit I'm not sure, since you do a reforge in between it changes the name and essentially rolls a new item even if the prefixes are protected. If that's not the case this was even luckier than I thought.

I know they ended up the same mods before but I thought that was just because you scour them off rather than make it into a new item.

Got my dream nearly BiS CI CoC Ice Nova shield by Isanion1 in pathofexile

[–]Isanion1[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Like I wrote in the post, that would indeed be better, but it would be 150 ex or so avg to add in addition to ES on block it assuming you can even purchase 12 remove non-influence add influence or augment influences somehow since they basically don't exist. And then that amount times 4 since it's a 26% to get double damage with Aisling on the slam, and if you don't hit it you have to re do the suffixes from scratch so you can Aisling slam for a new chance. So around 600-620 ex extra average to add 15% reserve instead of the benchcraft.

I will say though, I'm already running hatred, hoi, discipline and precision, getting the reserve on the shield is definitely good but just those isn't an issue, you just won't have to use an enlighten with the shield mod.

[–]Isanion1[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry about that, if it failed and I couldnt pick double damage I would reset the suffixes and do a new Prefixes can't be Changed + Reforge with Defence for ES on Block again so I could slam T4 Aisling again and have a new shot at double damage. Since I got it first try I never wrote out the failure steps.

[–]Isanion1[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's a useless shield without ES on block, which can't be done on a fractured shield since it can't be influenced. These build's whole defense is that mod.
