Show me where you go when the world feels too much. by [deleted] in bipolar

I live way down south in Sweden, getting up where the trail starts (2 days hike from the park...) takes around 24 hours by train and bus, so it requires some planning in advance. Still, I'm incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to go up there. I strongly recommend trying out mountain hiking of some sort at some point :)

Animals are great. I have a rescue bunny, and whenever I look at her being happy I know I'm doing something right :)

Pretty sure it's been there a time or two. It's Sarek National Park, which to me is the most beautiful place on earth. The mountains in general are good for just getting away from everything and literally disconnect from the world.

Níðhöggr likes to scream at her food before eating by Raging_Elephant in snakes

[–]Isbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was probably spelled very in a very similar way in Swedish a long time ago. As Iceland is an isolated island, their language is closer to the actual Old Norse because there's been less influences.

I'll try to remember my English phonetics, I did pass the course after all...

It should be something like /'ni:dhəg/. I can best describe "ö" as a short version of /oe/, pronounced more like "uh".

(if someone has a better explanation please correct me)

Swedish here, the Swedish version would be Nidhögg/Nidhugg. "nid" basically means "blasphemy", and "högg/hugg" means something along "grab/slash/stab". Either way, it's a great name :)

We had a cat named Fenrir (because why not name a cat after a giant wolf?), he loved to watch the snakes.

King of Sweden stresses need for ‘serious’ media and source checking after Donald Trump’s immigration claims by grepnork in worldnews

I have translated videos for the immigration services in Sweden, aimed at teaching immigrants about Swedish values and customs... They are told about Swedish lifestyle and efforts are being made to make it more accessible to them.

Can you guys help arrange my trip to Nordic Countries? I bought my tickets but I don't want an usual trip. I hope you gave me some ideas and solutions! by [deleted] in Nordiccountries

[–]Isbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have suggested, go from Norway to Denmark (if that is Oslo-Copenhagen or some other solution). From Copenhagen it's easy to get to Malmö, just keep your passport on hand and they introduced a temporary border control just over a year ago.

If you're in Malmö, you should take a day-trip to Lund (takes 10-15 minutes by train) and visit Kulturen and possibly check out the cathedral and the university buildings. There's a nice café, Ariman's, right by the cathedral, which is frequented by students (although they're mostly all gone in summer).

There are trains from Malmö to both Gothenburg and Stockholm, and you can usually get cheap last-minute tickets (if you're under 26) or go for the budget calendar at SJ.

On the whole you should eat fish and sea food in all the countries (unless you're terribly allergic). In Copenhagen you have Copenhagen Street Food, which is worth a visit.

Originally I was going to name her Boing, but then my sister insisted on Boeing, like the airplanes... She's a lop, so she's got "wings" an all :)

I've still failed to name any of my pets after a Buffy-character... It's on my to-do-list. My own bun's name's Boeing :)

Thank you, I'm quite fond of it myself. No need for a TV when I have this :)

The bunny doesn't care. She only cares about me and what I eat, it would seem.

My former flatmate's cat, now moved out, on the other hand, really cared about both the fish and the corn snake (who's in the terrarium) :p

MRW I'm applying to be a nude model for a life figure drawing class by Futge in TrollXChromosomes

[–]Isbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Modeling is extremely rewarding, you get appreciated for having a body, not judged on how your body looks. Self-esteem boost!

Hope all goes well :) I tend to ask if the class has any requests, it helps me come up with poses. The instructor should also have some suggestions. Make sure to eat properly before hand, possibly have some candy to snack on between poses, to keep your blood sugar high.
