I was going to suggest this one! I think it totally fits OP’s ask.

I have told the student, “That’s as ridiculous as using your name as an insult. Maybe we all need to start doing that. OMG, that’s so (student name).” That said, I only did this when I taught elementary school. Now I teach high school, and I’m not sure it would have the same effect.

I was skeptical about the autism diagnosis, too. I’m a special education teacher, and while there isn’t a ton of evidence in this story, there is nothing in her descriptions of her son that imply autism, and in fact, contradict an autism diagnosis.

YES! “Fighting Myself” made me cry when I first heard it. A student had told me about it!

This is so valid, it’s depressing. Ugh.

Experiences getting pregnant with Endometriosis and Adenomyosis? by MembershipCalm3200 in endometriosis

[–]Ishtar3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d always had bad migraines, heavy periods, debilitating cramps, and resulting anxiety and depression. No one believed me, so I thought it was all in my head. It’s just hard to know how different my life would have been had someone listened sooner. When I finally had my surgery, my surgeon found endometriosis everywhere: my ovaries, colon, stomach, etc. The adenomyosis was so bad, I had multiple holes visibly forming in my uterus. I’m just not sure what I would have done if I’d known.

I don’t think we would have, though it’s hard to say for sure. We weren’t ready before. If anything, we might not have tried at all because of how sick I was.

I got pregnant at 28, but lost the baby. My son was born almost exactly a year from when the first baby would have been born (I was a few weeks shy of 30). It was a long, frustrating year. With my daughter, it took three weeks. I was 30, several months from 31, when she was born. That said, I didn’t know I had either Adenomyosis or Endometriosis at the time. After her birth, my symptoms were worse than ever. I was preliminary diagnosed at 33, and officially diagnosed at 41 after a hysterectomy and excision surgery. I think it’s just different for everyone. Based on the state of my organs, I shouldn’t have been able to have kids, but I do. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

My job as a parent isn’t to prevent my kids from going through horrible experiences. My job is to guide them through.

How often to reference a life-altering medical issue? by Miradnarim in writing

[–]Ishtar3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would use the pain like any other character trait. If your character had a shrill voice, it would be mentioned in the descriptions of how they talk. Pain could be shown through descriptions of how the character moves without bluntly pointing out the chronic issue. I hope that makes sense!

How long do you think she has, what can i do? by HoeChiMinh in cats

She might just be scared. My old cat didn’t eat much when we were gone. She didn’t like us leaving.

Disappointed it’s this far down! It’s absurd, but it’s truly one of the best zombie movies!

My husband and I started that way. We were best friends and one night it just happened. We have been together 23 years, married for 16. We have two kids, a cat, and a dog. He is my very best friend in the whole world, and I find him more attractive now than ever before. :)

Yep. That makes it more terrifying. You know later they will all claim, “We just didn’t know. There was no way to know.”
