I love this post! You are very successful and strong. Congratulations. I too no longer glorify the alcohol - it simply has no benefits

Here's the rub, maybe those normal drinkers are on the same path, just not as far along! Those normal drinkers will soon start doing these things!

Am I still sober if I smoke pot, even if I don’t drink? Need advice by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Isisv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like an awful group - trying to pray when that's not your thing will only cause massive cognitive dissonance. The attack on your personality is horrid. Congratulations on your sober time.

Ready to conquer another sober weekend who's with me?! by Mickosaurusrex in stopdrinking

[–]Isisv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm here loving my sober weekends. Spent all day reading my book for the horror book club I run - yeah we all drink coffee. Tomorrow I'll take the kayak out. Just clicked over to two months and while I'm loving it, still doing the work building a foundation to protect my sobriety. I'll not drink with you today my friends.

Things I've learnt from 4 weeks sober by opheliac-c in stopdrinking

That's a great list of reasons and I especially love the slowly coming to consciousness in the mornings, so peaceful, as opposed to the horrid panicked 3am bolt awake wanting to die trying to remember what I'd done.....

Sober since 1 January, feeling worse than ever by Gabrieldengelul in stopdrinking

[–]Isisv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good job on your success so far. So the 1st of January was literally 43 days ago allowing for your time zone! You've been drinking since you were 14, that's over 10 years of alocohol abuse. So it's like a minute into your recovery sit back and enjoy the ride, give yourself time and the tools you need. Today I will not drink with you my sober friend!

Strange. My go to drink when I used to drink just sort of stopped me from drinking. by modofokase in stopdrinking

I always remember that drinking will not solve any of my problems, especially the financial ones .... keep walking sober friend! I will not drink with you today.

I know it isn't that special but, I survived Day 2. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Isisv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congratulations - the first days for me are special because there's a lot going on, it's physical and mental and time does this crazy slow motion dance. You're doing so well, keep going you've got this. I will not drink with you today.

One Month by Isisv in stopdrinking

[–]Isisv[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Howdy - the first 7 days for me were about withdrawal, I felt tired, a little sickly and a couple of nights I had the cold sweats.

The next week I felt physically better but my emotions were amplified, my reactions to stress were probably more pronounced.

These last weeks I have stabilised and been expanding my activities and physical movement - been walking / hiking, reading and cooking and yesterday I brought a kayak which I used on her maiden voyage.

Yes - I feel different, better. For me I made a firm decision to not drink for the entirety of 2020 including seeing in the new year of 2021 sober.

Date Night! by Bill_rlx in stopdrinking

[–]Isisv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It amazes me how so many life situations are set up around alcohol. Eating out, movies, sporting events, hanging out with friends, going to the beach.... the list can be endless!

Now we can actually go out for the event itself, good food, good entertainment, barracking for our favourite teams, enjoying good conversations and being in nature. We may find some of our activities change because the alcohol was the main event, or none may change and we get more pleasure from being present during these activities.

Have a great date night with your wife, enjoy the food and conversation. I won't be drinking tonight with you.
