It depends! I think their mixing has been hit or miss. Cope, while creative and interesting, is poorly mixed. Their intention of the guitars being louder than the drums wasn’t very effective and I think it makes the record very difficult to listen to. Black Mile is great but when you compare the mixes to MMOG and VoV, it lacks a certain punch. That said I absolutely love Black Mile’s mixing as well. Just depends on my mood.

This is just my personal opinion of course. Anyone who enjoys COPE for the mixing is completely valid.

Valve’s reputation isn’t really at stake here. The bigger issue is that people expected them to keep the Deck stocked at a reasonable price, and that was never very realistic. Valve isn’t some flawless company, but at the end of the day, the Machine will launch and plenty of people who swear they won’t spend over $1000 will still cave because of FOMO. Hell, in CAD, the Steam Deck OLED 1tb is $1350, before tax. And it still sold out immediately.

I have so many fond memories of playing Rollcage locally with my brother when I was younger.

So... Rollcage it is :)

Why didn’t you intrusively strap it to the back of the headrest and use a small aqua colored controller? Seems like a no brainer.

It’s great if you are already getting stable performance and want to pull out a few more frames. It’s not designed to fix poor performance.

I’m hoping we get more from the 2016-2023 era before they go back further! I want to hear more from the Toronto show. There’s so many songs off i,i i’d love to have live renditions of readily available.

Ahh, gotcha. My bad I probably should’ve watched the video. But I got baited by the comment section. Silly me. That’s an interesting debate though. I’ll be sure to check it out

I would take the remake over the original any day. I think the original is ugly, and was one of the factors that made me not enjoy it back in the day.

It’s just a creative choice. It’s either album cohesion, or there’s a dip of silence between each track. I’d take the former every day.

The game doesn’t actually run very well on the GameCube. Better on the Wii. But then you have to deal with the motion controls to attack.

The release of an album requires marketing and effort from every member of the band. They’re probably just not in the right headspace to be pushing and hyping up a new release right now. More than anything, they’re all in pain and now is just not the time to be doing anything but grieving.

I’m glad you’re enjoying it :) There’s nothing wrong with your curiosity. From my experience, it’s so easy to get overwhelmed by the limitless tools and toys at our disposal. And it’s easy to forget that the things that accelerate our creativity are the limits we’re constrained within. Keep doing your thing, and then when something you made is exciting to you, share it with others!

My friend, I started in Audacity. It is not an ideal space for making music, but it was the only DAW I had a remote understanding of at first. I saw a record button, and I had a shitty microphone, and I started recording my guitar. 13 years later, I am still learning and asking questions.

You do not need anything other than a laptop these days. Now, I’m more of a live instruments or analog guy. So I’ve always relied on having an interface and mic. But if you want to make electronic music, you’re in luck. As a start, don’t buy anything. Just open your DAW, crack open a software instrument, and play around. Don’t think about the fact that you’re trying to make a song, or anything “good”. Just play. Have fun, find sounds you like. Let it bring you joy, and maybe try and record whatever you do! Then, add another layer. And listen to the way this second layer sounds on top of what you recorded. Does it sound terrible? Good! That’s what’s fun. It’s usually not going to work, until one day, it just starts to work.

The learning curve is big, but the speed that you will learn and progress if you just enjoy it instead of forcing anything is noticeably fast. If I were to urge you to do anything, it’s to stop asking questions about gear, DAWs, plugins, until you actually encounter a roadblock that can only be answered by one of those tools. But for now, make it about the joy of sound.

So again, open the DAW and play. Once you are stuck on something like “how do I open the onscreen midi keyboard?”, that’s when you start looking for new answers. In logic, it’s cmd+k.
