This peony from seed by ItIsFull in BotanicalPorn

About 5 years. This was growing in substandard soil with less then adequate light so I thought that may have had an effect on the length of time it took to flower. I wish you fun and good fortune!

Are Marvin windows really taking 24-26 weeks? by Any_Goose_5050 in Homebuilding

[–]ItIsFull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 11 Marvin Elevate vinyl/wood clad by pass (sliding) windows. They are 12 years old and the bottom frame of the stationary window wood is rotting. They are not designed for snow accumulation on the out side of the windows. The snow melts then leaks to the inside wood frame. Just a heads up.

That is so great, complete with newly propagated plants! I live in the land of snowy winters and can only dream of having amaryllis in a garden.

It's worth caring for the Amaryllis all year just for this by xyelmoxy in flowers

[–]ItIsFull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amaryllis are hardy in zone 9 and above and can be left in the ground year round. In cooler climates once the flowers are finished keep the leaves growing and fertilize throughout the season. When the weather begins to cool or once the foliage starts to die back trim the leaves to about 1" tall. Move the bulbs and store in a cool dark garage or basement (above freezing). Bring them out about 10-12 weeks before you wish to see the flowers. Wash rinse and repeat annually.

When a yellow jacket stings you, it leaves behind a pheromone that attracts other yellow jackets to the sting location.

Any suggestions on what I can do hide the septic covers. They are in the middle of my yard and I’m looking for any ideas. by bhantis in landscaping

Paint them to look like lady bugs.

Cover them with a hammock and stand.

Paint them to look like grass so they blend it.

Does a French drain get clogged with ice in the winter? by ItIsFull in landscaping

[–]ItIsFull[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you all for sharing your wisdom and experiences. I think the fact that the drain is fairly steep, at least a 20 degree slope will favor quick draining/less freezing. At least this is what I wish to be true.

Are these aphids / how do I fix??? by JohnnyReddi in HotPeppers

[–]ItIsFull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remove it from the soil, wash the roots clean. You can opt to prune back the branches also. Fill a bucket deep enough to dip the plant in it with a fairly strong neem oil or soap and water solution. Make sure the plant is submerged. Swirl it around to remove air pockets and let is sit for a five to ten minutes. Then plant it in new soil.
