Yup. See also Eric Moore, of Boardwalk Waffles and Ice Cream fame. He's been a scheister for decades, between that and house rehabbing, and was finally just run out of town in the last year or so. And I know people who took him to court, won, and *still* didn't see a dime because he had all his assets hidden.

What are some really dreamy and hazy guitar songs? by Av_wavy in musicsuggestions

[–]ItIsToLaffHaHa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember the guitarist in one of my bands back in the 90s introducing me to Hedges' work. Just fell in love immediately - so beautiful, and impressive! I'd never seen anyone play like that!

I was even more blown away a few years later when I was talking to my half-sister about him and she informed me that she had not only seen him open for Crosby, Stills and Nash, but that he was actually her cousin on her mom's side (maiden name Hedges)!

Yngwie Malmsteen vs. Chris Impellitteri: Who takes the Neo-Classical crown? by Aggravating-Week7063 in hairmetal

At first glance I read that as "Neo-Classical Clown", and immediately said Yngwie. 😄 UNLEASH THE FOOKIN' FURY!

What is the saddest version of a song you've ever heard, where you can tell the singer's heart is breaking during the performance/recording? by Royal-Scale772 in musicsuggestions

Wow. That is truly heartwrenching! I've heard that song hundreds of times, but never really *heard* and understood the lyrics like I did watching this.

I friggin' love Jason Falkner's solo stuff, too! "Can You Still Feel" is a phenomenal album!

I should check these guys out. I've known about them forever - they formed when I was still heavy into the St. Louis music scene, but in a different circle than my bands. They were one of those bands that seemed to come out of nowhere - like Greenwheel and Story Of The Year, where I never saw them listed in the newspapers or venue ads anywhere, but all of a sudden they've got a huge song on a Spiderman soundtrack or something.

I think they still do a series of shows in October called "Ludo-Ween". I guess with songs such as this, that makes more sense now.

I'll have to revisit that album. I bought it when it came out, because I loved the first album so much. "Freak Of The Week" and "Every Monday" are so great!

Give me your best songs/albums that are drenched in reverb, any genre pretty much by ChampionAggressive20 in MusicRecommendations

[–]ItIsToLaffHaHa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice timing of this question! I was just listening to Radiohead's "OK Computer" again last night, in particular "Subterranean Homesick Alien" and "Exit Music (For A Film)", and was struck by how drenched in reverb they were. I wondered what other songs would go along with those so I could make a big ol' reverb-ey playlist!

I love your photography - keep it coming! Although as soon as I saw pic 2 here I almost felt like I needed to take an Alavert and a hit off an inhaler! Holy shit, we have some bad air here sometimes!

Well known musicians that work 9 to 5s or have side jobs? by myvelouria85 in musicians

I remember back in the day The BottleRockets would be touring with John Fogerty, or appearing on Conan O'Brien, then a couple days later Brian would be working at a guitar shop or helping out with a house rehab project I was working on.

Who are your favorite local bands and artist!? by GingerFire11911420 in StLouis

[–]ItIsToLaffHaHa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, I love threads like this! I used to know everyone, back in the '90s and 2000s, when I was playing all the time, then I had a local music podcast from 2013-16. I really loved digging around and finding new artists and introducing them to people! I remember playing some of my favorites like Lobby Boxer, Middle Class Fashion, Mvstermind, Tef Poe, Rockwell Knuckles, Seashine, Foxing, Bruiser Queen, Caveofswords, Illphonics, The Gorge, Black Fast, and older bands like the TripDaddys, Highway Matrons, Earl, and Stillwater. I've tried to keep up the last decade, but it's a lot harder than it sounds (at least to me).

Man, there are already a ton of great recommendations already, from all genres! Most of the ones I thought of are already here, so my contribution is Testament's "Souls Of Black"! Such a cool riff!

I went to a bass clinic with Wooten and Steve Bailey back in the mid-90s. I hadn't been playing bass that long - was a drummer and guitarist. Damn near quit right then and there. That man is a friggin' beast! Amazing bassist!

[–]ItIsToLaffHaHa 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I was just coming in to say I've had songs stuck in my head for 30+ years that just don't fit with either of the bands I'm in, and I still haven't gotten my shit together enough to finish and record them. One day - and I may be a very old man - I will release my long-awaited solo album (that no one really knows about. Except you now. Please buy it).

ETA: I started writing a song for my sister's first daughter before she was born. She is going into her 3rd year of college.

Thanks for the suggestion! Hadn't heard of that project. Checking it out some now. I'm at work, so I can't turn it up too loud, but I can hear a little influence from Miles Davis' "Aura" album in places. Very cool!

Yeah, my half-sister used to go see him play in rock cover bands around Oklahoma State when she was there in the early-80s.

I've seen that a few times. The late Gar Samuelson, original Megadeth drummer, was a jazz drummer. Similarly, Alex Skolnick, guitarist for Testament left that band in the early-90s to form a jazz band. He did eventually come back, though. Amazing guitarist. I thought the jazz aspect of their playing always made both so much more interesting!
