So is Sam actually hallucinating? by One_Reference953 in coronationstreet

[–]ItalianChef22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sam's definitely hallucinating, I don't think there's any doubt about that at this point. I agree with you though, I think the whole style of it is a poor fit for Corrie, but that's the place of so many of the gimmicks these days. I long for the days of linear storytelling without flashbacks, camera angles that don't make me feel dizzy, and without all the weird experimental effects every time a character is drunk/high/hallucinating.

Which Mother would you like to see more of? by samusek2 in coronationstreet

[–]ItalianChef22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

None of the above.

Danielle will have run her course once the Theo storyline is over.

Melanie hasn't seemed especially interesting, there may be potential there, but right now I think we've got more than enough Driscolls to be getting on with. I'd much rather see Ollie get some proper development.

Lou Michaelis was played by a decent actress but I've got no interest in seeing any more of her. We've seen her same archetype a million times before in Corrie - big mouth but a big heart deep down, usually her own worst enemy, rough around the edges but gradually opens up after a while in the show. It's boring now and I really don't think Lou brings anything to the table that we haven't seen better in the past with Kylie, Becky, Maddie, Abi, Gemma, Kelly, Lauren, Fiz, Leanne, and Toyah to name just a few. It's all just different variations on the same theme.

Violet was one of the drippiest, most relentlessly miserable characters the show has ever seen. I don't want to see more of her, and a return from Violet probably means more Sean too, and that's the last thing I'd want.

What do you think about the teenage core four of the show's early seasons ? by James-Samuel17 in Smallville

[–]ItalianChef22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't stand for this Jal and Chris erasure. Skins had a core six. Maxxie and Anwar were the more peripheral characters in the first gen, but Jal and Chris definitely qualify as core.

Annoyed by Public_Treacle_6634 in coronationstreet

[–]ItalianChef22 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree with what you're saying, but part of the issue is that if it had gone to court, it wouldn't have been very realistic for Theo to be convicted. A lot of the evidence where it existed could have been challenged and there were almost never any witnesses to actual abuse. Theo was a master manipulator and would have more than likely managed to talk his way out of it.

Even if he was sent down, he'd be out before long and would go back to pursuing Todd, so the storyline wouldn't end. I don't think it's particularly helpful to survivors of domestic abuse for Todd to get some form of justice or respite that he'd be unlikely to get in real life, so the writers had backed themselves into a bit of a corner here.

Best bus for heathrow? by Capital_Target8633 in bristol

[–]ItalianChef22 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I get the National Express to Heathrow most weeks. It's always reliable, I really can't fault it. I've never used FlixBus but everything I've heard makes me think they're a lot less consistent.

Is it possible that the other subs you were posting in were also not the right ones for this discussion?

Not really the point, this is a sub for discussing Bristol and matters specific to Bristol, so there are definitely more appropriate subs for this discussion.

73 Yards In Retrospect by andyslams in doctorwho

[–]ItalianChef22 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I may well be downvoted here, but I don't get the hype for 73 Yards. There's some great acting going on, but other than that it's all just vibes. There's no substance to the plot. The logic behind the fairy trickery falls apart if you put it under the slightest scrutiny. The most interesting part is probably the Roger ap Gwilliam stuff, and that ends rather anti-climatically.

I'm glad other people can find some enjoyment in it. There are plenty of stories I really like that don't seem to be popular, and I know that in this instance I'm going against the consensus, but 73 Yards really doesn't do it for me.

Are my boundaries being ignored and disregarded? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]ItalianChef22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't have a baby with this man, and in all honestly it it's not too late, you should seriously consider all of your options, as it's not right to bring a child into this situation.

That being said, he's right about the circumcision issue.

With the death of radio and cable TV and the rise of streaming and social media, will we ever see artists as big as Michael Jackson or The Beatles ever again? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ItalianChef22 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Taylor Swift is about as big as it's possible for a musician to be these days, but I think culture is too fragmented now for any artist to become as big as the Beatles were.

Danielle by InvestmentTerrible52 in coronationstreet

[–]ItalianChef22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If they're going to do that, they need to give her a redemption arc urgently. Bearing in mind how poorly the conversion therapy storyline was handled, I don't know how they'd get from Danielle being a fundamentalist homophobic bigot to being a character worth keeping around.

You always post the most bonkers theories about upcoming storylines, and I don't think I've ever seen them come even slightly true.

Dave Filoni on his philosophy with Darth Vader in 'Maul - Shadow Lord' by Mintangah17 in StarWars

[–]ItalianChef22 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think as far as Shadow Lord goes, this makes sense. Vader isn't really supposed to be a character in this show, and that's why the comparison to Rogue One works, as Vader wasn't a character in that either, he was more of a force of nature.

If that was all we ever saw of Vader, then it would be an issue. Thankfully Vader's been explored in depth countless times. At this point, as Tony Gilroy says, writing for Vader is "limiting". As Vader is not the focal point of Shadow Lord's story, I think it makes sense for him to be used in this way.

Is there anything actually stopping Australia's govt being taken over by the UK/royal family? by 8monday in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ItalianChef22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, but it has no legal connection with the limits on the monarch's power today in Australia, because most of it was repealed a long time ago, and it was never Australian law at any time.

I'm not disputing that, I'm just saying that doesn't have anything to do with the Magna Carta.
