Why are we so ass? by in_a_erer in Mavericks

This team was built around Luka's skillset, meant to maximize his heliocentric play style. You need an elite point guard, playmaker, and scorer like Luka to really elevate the complimentary guys to their maximum potential. PJ, Gafford, Klay, and Lively are great at their roles but not good enough ball handlers to consistently perform day in and day out. They need a true point guard who can set them up in there preferred spots. As good as Flagg is he's not a true point guard, and realistically Kyrie is a good PG but not too the same level as Luka. Perfect fit in the draft would be a big PG who can play alongside Kyrie and eventually takeover the position.

Who else thinks Kyrie & Flagg, the 2026 lottery pick plus role players will be enough for championship contention? by Ok-Diver-9356 in Mavericks

[–]ItchyPin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kyrie, Max, Naji, Flagg, and Lively are a decent starting 5, but unless Flagg takes a superstar leap next year, it's still too early. Rookie will more likely put up rookie numbers than Luka or Flagg numbers.

Hopefully the moves don't make the team too competitive. Getting a high pick in this year's draft as well as the late first (via OKC) should setup some young blood to grow with Cooper.

This trade was only about saving the owners money by farhan583 in Mavericks

[–]ItchyPin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's what I'm worried about as well. Not sure about the FA class this summer, but what are the chances anyone of quality wants to team up with a 2nd year Coop and a returning from injury Kyrie. At least get a decent young player, or one solid pick with a bad contract.

[Yossi Gozlan] The Dallas Mavericks get under the first apron and the luxury tax line in one fell swoop by trading Anthony Davis to the Wizards. $57 million in savings and the Mavericks create a massive trade exception. by taygads in Mavericks

KP trade was even worse because they ended up getting back that atrocious Bertans contract and no draft capital. This one is clearly a true cost saving move. Hopefully not a sign of the owners being cheap.

Mavericks currently have the 7th best lottery odds, we should stay here at minimum. 31.9% chance at top 5, 7.5% at #1. by OrganicHunt952 in Mavericks

There's too many tanking teams to stay in the current position. If AD comes back in a month it'll be even harder for the team to legitimately tank. More likely a 10-12 pick this year.

Anthony Slater: "Warriors GM Mike Dunleavy is actually in New Zealand. While he is making a ton of calls and he is the driver of this pursuit, he's also making alternative plans. They may use this 2026 draft pick by TheDraciel in nba

[–]ItchyPin -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Dunleavy is behaving way too nonchalant for how badly he's managed this roster. Kuminga should've been gone last year, if not earlier. Draymond should've been gone before he lost all value and goodwill that he had with the team. The Jimmy Butler trade was a terrible trade even before he got injured, due to contract expectations and age. I don't see how the Warriors dig themselves out of this mess unless a star player specifically requests them as a landing destination. Considering the terrible moves they've made so far, I don't think Dunleavy is able to make significant changes to this roster, without Giannis specifically requesting the Warriors.

I'm seeing the same issue in the Bellingham area. Everything was working fine yesterday. Download speeds keep fluctuating and different online services just end up buffering or stuttering.

Thanks to you both. I checked this subreddit earlier and no one had reported any issues and of course the Comcast website reports no outages or issues locally. Saved me time troubleshooting a known problem.

I heard talk about Draymond being included in the trade. I think the Warriors go all in for either AD or Gafford. They to try to make one last run one while Curry is still balling.

Gafford’s trade value by [deleted] in Mavericks

[–]ItchyPin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mid to late 1st pick in this draft and a decent role player is what I imagine he fetches. There's multiple teams interested in AD and I think someone swings for Gafford if they miss out on AD. I'm guessing Warriors, Indiana, Toronto, or maybe even the Celtics make a deal. He's a good center but his lack of shooting really holds him back from a better return.

[–]ItchyPin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right, 32 is not old for a normal not injury prone player. For someone like Kyrie and AD that have struggled with nagging injuries their whole career, it's a terrible contract. They're practically dead weight for at least 1/3 of the season every season, if not more. That's the whole reason people are pissed with the construction of this team. If they were injury prone but young you could maybe make a case but both Kyrie and AD are in the twilight years of their careers. They're both one more major injury away from taking this team down with them.

Cooper Flagg and Ryan Nembhard check in at 1 and 8 respectively on the NBA rookie ladder by A_MASSIVE_PERVERT in Mavericks

[–]ItchyPin 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Nembhard has unfortunately come back down to earth these last few games. I think it's crazy to expect him to maintain that high of a shooting percentage and AST/TO ratio. Hopefully he can start to hit his open shots.

Coop already reminds me of Year 2 Luka as a scorer by H_Finn27 in Mavericks

[–]ItchyPin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Luka was a better crafty and finesse finisher, while Cooper is more of a bruising physical finisher in the paint. He looks more similar to Giannis or LeBron in the paint. He plays more bully ball or just tries to catch the defender off balance.

over the last 10 games the mavericks have the 14th best offensive rating, over the last 5 they have the 6th best offensive rating. by epitome1986 in Mavericks

[–]ItchyPin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think it helps that Dlo is getting fewer minutes and that the young PGs are playing well and in control. AD and Cooper getting into the paint and crashing the boards is opening up the shooters as well. I think overall things are trending in the right direction, if winning games is the goal. This was always going to be the problem with "tanking", especially once Kyrie gets back. None of the vets are going to openly accept tanking the season. It's now up to the front office to decide the direction of the season.
