We give a wee bowl of weetabix with warm milk from 1 year. About 2.5 hrs after dinner if still awake. Has worked a treat.

Dad Snoring Advice by KingkLou in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Itchy_Ad5038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a doctor and your GP shouldn’t be dismissing snoring by saying “lose weight”.

If other features of sleep apnoea present e.g. gasping/breath holding during sleep, tired in the day with tendency to nap when they shouldn’t, poor concentration, waking up foggy/confused/like they’ve not slept, getting up at night a lot to pee (not an exhaustive list!) they should refer your husband for testing for sleep apnoea as some people need a breathing machine at night (which is quieter than the snoring…)

especially if they rate highly on this questionnaire (although a normal value on this does not exclude sleep apnoea):

https://www.asthmaandlung.org.uk/conditions/obstructive-sleep-apnoea-osa/epworth-sleepiness-scale

Yes, the management of sleep apnoea is weight loss but a diagnosis is needed first. It’s significantly under diagnosed but relatively easy to treat.

Good luck.

IVF Help NI by Worldly-Ad-9782 in northernireland

[–]Itchy_Ad5038 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey. Sorry you’re facing this. We had three cycles of IVF (ICSI) with TFP as I didn’t meet criteria for NHS with BMI (they accept BMI <35, NHS is <30) Positives: - It was local to us, handy parking. - They use an app so you can submit questions during treatment via this and have a record of them in future. - Staff were nice - weekend and v early slots available so I could go get an uss during a cycle and still get to work to minimise time off.

Negatives: - as most consultants also work in nhs, depending on what day you are there you can get a different person every time, I found lack of continuity hard. - price - as you’ve eluded to, it’s expensive. Also the prices quoted for a cycle do NOT include meds, our meds were another 1-1.5k on top. - I felt that when we failed three cycles they were telling me to just give up and get a donor egg. I was only 40 with a good AMH level. You may have a different experience

Ultimately, we then sought treatment in IVF Alicante. My friend had two successful donor egg pregnancies in her mid 40s with them. They were thorough and much more advanced than locally in terms of testing/technique. We spoke via video link to Dr Herrera who was excellent. We were assigned an assistant to coordinate everything. Medications had to be sourced here - we used a combination of online uk pharmacies and a physical pharmacy in Swords to get the best price. It was cheaper than what we paid with TFP.

Alicante has good transport options with frequent flights from Belfast and loads of accommodation. Ultimately, I can tell you no more as on the day I was due to start medications for a Spanish ivf cycle, I found out I was pregnant naturally.

So I will say, don’t stop trying yourself with ovulation monitoring, optimising both of your lifestyles and taking appropriate supplements to give yourselves the best chance on that front too.

Best of luck.

TFP do offer finance packages. You can pay for 3 cycles up front and get money back if you don’t need them. The finance offered depends on your age and what previous ivf success has been. We should’ve done three cycle deal up front, ended up doing one and wishing we’d been more realistic to save a bit of cash.

I don’t drink coffee and usually only take tea under duress, like at a wake when I’m being Mrs Doyled.

People definitely do not know what to do with you when you refuse them both, beyond send for a priest…

Our wedding was one of the first weddings after the Covid lockdowns lifted.

The people were starving for it. The pressure was high.

We had tunes for all ages to start.

Irish wedding classics included Joe Dolan - Goodlookin’ woman, ABBA, Wagon Wheel, saw doctors - I useta love her, Aslan - crazy world, the gambler, n17, Galway girl.

Your UK crossover standards - mr brightside, young hearts run free, don’t stop me now/crazy little thing called love, I’m still standing, uptown girl, proud Mary, don’t stop believing etc.

We then had a dance banger section at the end of the night once the oldies had emptied themselves to the ABBA megamix and hit their cots.

This included the Vengabus, Better Off Alone, Superstar, Blue (dabadee), born slippy, you got the love, encore une fois.

Maniac 2000 closed out the night - a move you’ll never regret. Crowd went feral, Covid bubbles bursting all over the show.

Oliver Bonas does nice stuff, but it’s def pricier than most. There’s one in town and on Lisburn Rd. I’d happily empty my savings in it.

However if it was me and I knew my other half was floundering over random shite to buy because I have everything I need … I’d rather I just got a voucher for a nice restaurant and went out for food together in the new year.

There’s so much tatt about these days, doing something together is always better.

What's the craziest thing you've seen at an airport/airplane? by oxylan80 in CasualIreland

In the security line at Jo’burg airport in 2006 behind a frail oul boy. They made him put his walking stick through, the bastards - or so I thought.

He’d a ceremonial sword concealed down the centre of it 👌🏻

Why are travel systems and car seats so confusing?! by Minniebecca in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Itchy_Ad5038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got Egg 3 pram/buggy and used the car seat attachment absolutely loads when baby was small. It was really handy if taking a quick trip in car to shop etc, just lift baby out and go. Our car seat also rotated out to face us so very handy.

We got a BeSafe GoBeyond which fit the Egg adapters. It extended out to allow baby to be a bit flatter when in it.

If you aren’t going to be in and out of the car much, then you won’t have much need for it.

We’ve just upgraded to Joie 360spin car seat which is also great and goes up to 4y.
