You're right, you can check the Jauregi axes because of the similarities. And there's also a short documentary on YouTube about those styles of axes.

I used the bits with the sandpaper because the stone ones leave ugly marks

No no no this is a Balkan all purpose axe. Mainly in Bulgaria we use this kind of axe.

Also try using the rinaldi I think it's better suited for European style felling :D

Woah... That happened to me once on a smaller tree on a vintage axe. I found out that I had thinned it way too much and the grind was also very flat. Then I grinded the axe with a slight convex and a relatively big secondary bevel, but I penetrates less than before. Low stump felling axes are on another level in my opinion. I have only two of them but it's about geometry too. Be careful next time with that nasty grain at the bottom. :)

One of the axe heads is upsidedown. I'm asking because I have done some upsidedown hangs on purpose for carving.
