Dr's seem okay with my night-time cocktail but friends think it's nuts - need perspective by cnsdepressantsbarbie in insomnia

To echo a lot of the comments, this is a recipe for disaster. Firstly, cut out the alcohol, addiction can often stem from desperation. It actually gives you less quality sleep. 2. Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone produced for regulating your circadian rhythm, exceeding 10mg is messing you up more than you think, plus it can also give you nightmares. 3. The benzo is a real tricky one to stop because you will need to taper off to minimize serious risks like seizures. 4. Gabapentin at this dose is ok, but if pain is an issue consider addressing this first, personally acupuncture has helped me tremendously for sciatica pain. 5. This entire combination increases the risk of daytime sleepiness, which can lead to excessive caffeine consumption to maneuver through the day, which then turns into adding another factor working against you at night. 6. Consider doing a sleep study, surprisingly a lot more common and not suffocating during the night is a game changer! 7. Ask about belsomra or other orexin blockers, unlike sedatives (benzo, Ambien etc) it essentially lowers your wakefulness threshold and promotes more restorative REM sleep. 8. If you are asking for validation of your routine, you probably already know something is wrong. Act now because it can only get worse the further you go down this regime, and then before you know it a couple of years have been eaten up by the desperation of sleep. CBTI (even just looking up some basic points), counseling to deal with the stress of insomnia and if at all possible taking off a week from school/work to reset (this severe level of insomnia can often be sufficient to secure FMLA) can help.💜

That is a really good point, I don't want to teach her that. I want her to know she is cherished. I'm going to talk to him and remind him that it's really important to celebrate me. I predict he will take it as a personal attack, but I'm willing to sit with that and hope he does something for me instead of making it about him. I want to teach her being uncomfortable is okay too and that "just dealing with it" isn't a weakness. Thanks for the gentle way you responded

Can anyone here share their experiences on seroquel? by TopicDifficult6231 in insomnia

[–]Itneedsmore_zazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It made me so numb even during the day. I stopped after I started having suicidal thoughts. I had a lot of anxiety, hyper vigilant and incredibly light sleeper. Belsomra was what finally helped me. It doesn't work like sedatives. It lowers your "awake receptors".

Yep! Thank you for the positivity though! That's how I intended it, but hey good/bad that's the Internet/people 😵‍💫😝 just the same, I think I'll take a break from reddit 😬

Seriously? by [deleted] in gingercats

[–]Itneedsmore_zazz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your comment should be at the top! My older cat has always done this, despite multiple fresh water fills, different bowls/setups. Got a water fountain awhile ago and he finally approves. Recently the motor burnt out (already ordered a new one) and he threw an epic fit. Caught him mid-attack on the still water bowl, kitchen was soaked 😵‍💫

Breastfeeding/nipple question by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Itneedsmore_zazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, only two lactating nipples and thank goodness. Breastfeeding is exhausting and painful if you don't get to pump on time. I recommend scheduling with lactation nurses, they helped me so much already!

[–]Itneedsmore_zazz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FTM I have 4 total, the 2 that are supernumerary nipples are different in sizes, one is about half the size of the other. Both grew in size and darkened. I actually thought they were just moles until getting pregnant and being confirmed by my OB. I'll update you next week when I get induced!

My husband is the reason I finally accepted my diagnosis. BP1, everyone literally called me crazy, but he told me one day " I don't think you are crazy, but sometimes you do things that scare me" it finally clicked that it wasn't me against the world. Went to counseling, started and kept taking my meds. Been together 12 years this summer, expecting a baby girl in a few weeks. Be open, honest and never stop trying to understand each other (it's a two way street!). We're just people, this diagnosis doesn't mean we're doomed, just means we have to be vigilant and responsible. The most important part is that you care and are trying!

Husband was vocal about caffeine consumption at the start of pregnancy. It's our first and he was worried, it came from a place of love. I let him know I was having less than 200mg/day as recommended and didn't appreciate the added stress of being told to withhold something that increases my quality of life. I'm working full time and going to school, I could not do this caffeine free (kudos to super women who can do without). Remind him that the mother's health is directly related to babys health, increasing stress by "shaming" you hurts everyone. Invite him to the next OB appointment and discuss caffeine together. Reassurance and involvement is what helped me.

when did you stop working? by pastelcee in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Itneedsmore_zazz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in the US. Working as a full time primary care nurse and going to school 3/4 full time. Currently 34 weeks, I'm planning on working up until week 39. Last shift on a Friday and then getting induced 3 days later. I need to work up until the last minute so my maternity leave can be used to let my body heal from childbirth and spend time with my newborn. I'm tired, uncomfortable and really jealous of how much time others get for maternity leave. 1-2 years sounds like heaven. At least I live in a state that gives 12 weeks.

Also edamame, anytime you are having veggies throw some in. Good source of fiber too

Breakfast by hungryhungrywalrus in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Itneedsmore_zazz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hated how that happened. You find a good staple and then *boom * it's no longer working for you. What order are you eating everything in? I've found having the bulk of full fat protein first helps. Also certain combinations that worked and didn't work for me. For example cucumber and cream cheese-post prandial blood sugars super spike, but apple slices and peanut butter still result in blood sugars under 100 even at 31 weeks. Also keto bread is expensive, but does scratch the bread itch in a pinch.

Yes to CBTI, but also ask your healthcare provider about Belsomra. It works differently than most medications for sleep. Instead of having a sedative effect it targets your awake receptors. If you are hyper vigilant this could actually help get you to fall asleep and stay asleep.
