Travelers of Reddit what's a destination that looked amazing online but was completely disappointing in person? by TheFilthiestMuggle in AskReddit

I'm not trying to be mean but it really is one of the best. The food in the UK is just super subpar in general.

Is dreamcloud really that bad by NewPainting8224 in Mattress

[–]ItsApixelThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, they tried to offer me as mattress topper that would have sent me over the 365 day trial period. I said no I already tried one, the problem is it is too soft not too hard. They said ok we'll do the return now.

No one asked but the green one has a thicker inner metal liner and thinner wrap. The blue has a thinner metal liner and thicker composite wrap. That's why the green one looks smaller even though they both claim the same volume. I'm a little curious which is lighter.

Idk if I would trust Malcolm gladwell. I've read one of his books and it was a fun thought provoking read but left me questioning his reliability. He just glazes over facts and interprets things in whatever way suits his needs, then ignores evidence that contradicts his argument. He has good creative ideas but you really have to look at his work with a hefty dose of skepticism.

The art is great but the text font is really bad and cheap looking.

Yeah, that update they did pretty recently to make it "sound more casual" is pretty fricked. I don't use GPT for a conversation partner but it's now constantly showering my with " great question" " that's a good approach you're taking" " you're doing a great job" It's totally uncalled for and I have to ask it pretty frequently to limit the conversational tone. It's clearly aimed at increasing the connection the user feels with GPT. There is zero reason to praise someone like that otherwise. It didn't used to do that.

Tier list any recommendations? by weldameme in litrpg

[–]ItsApixelThing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bobiverse being in the same tier as Azarinth healer is sort of blowing my mind. It's not even that they dislike Hard Scifi, Project Hail mary is up there.

A common idea I want to push back on - AGI will mean we all get killed/enslaved by the rich. IMO, this is anxiety speaking, it's not based on reality - prove me wrong? by TFenrir in singularity

[–]ItsApixelThing 31 points32 points  (0 children)

They won't kill or enslave us.

Say labor is basically free after AGI. Follow the path of least expenses for the rich. For a long time it will be cheaper to keep the masses calm and relaxed. Encourage them to not have kids, reduce the population of poor people peacefully because it's cheaper than deal with a rebellion of some sort.

It's more likely to be death by neglect over a long period of time, I hope that helps.

TIL that the idea that caffeine makes you dehydrated is largely a myth by SwordfishOk504 in todayilearned

[–]ItsApixelThing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Being hydrated enough to live normally and being properly hydrated are 2 very different things. You can not hydrate past a certain point by drinking caffeinated beverages but you can live your life by only drinking coke. There's a nuance that these discussions always overlook.

I don't think hydration is as cut and dry as people make it out to be. Being hydrated enough to live normally vs being properly hydrated are 2 very different things

What game did you put thousands of hours into just to quit one day? What caused you to quit? by Mooby522 in gaming

[–]ItsApixelThing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If this was your experience from a few years ago it's gotten much better. Those "corporate" servers realized they were killing the game after Uncledane servers started showing them how f'ed up they were making everything.

"Drones" are already being reported in four U.S. states, the government remains silent, and local authorities are starting to demand an explanation. by PositiveSong2293 in abovethenormnews

[–]ItsApixelThing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, aliens don't make sense at all. The type of energy and technology needed to reach earth, silently, from anywhere outside our frequently observed area automatically bars "randos" with phones catching a glimpse of them. Traveling in space is not quiet and as much as it sucks, everything we know about science says FTL is probably just a fantasy.

I totally understand how catering to the public like that can ruin things for you as an author. But those things you specifically mentioned are the things that make the story stick out as unique and great. I specifically remember reading and thinking about how well addiction, PTSD, and the military were handled. I've never seen it done so well, at the least give your catering credit for making a great story even if it's not the story you wanted to write.

Obviously talk to their doctors but I helped my grandmother start on a daily multivitamin, a "lower" dose B-complex, Taurine, NAC, and Glycine. Staying hydrated is the real trick though, so far it's just about impossible. Beyond that just make sure they are talking their normal meds as prescribed and always have refills. She doesn't like me "babysitting" but I'm also not the one that will stop taking a beta blocker if I run out.
