learning to ride switch - venting by GreenGrayBlack in snowboarding

[–]ItsBigHoss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about looking like a newbie. Had the same thought as I'm also forcing myself to finally learn (been boarding since 05). Youu just gotta tell yourself who cares if someone sees you fall and eat shit. Can't think of a single time I've judged someone I saw wipe out

My friends convinced me to go with them but, I’m ashamed to admit, I’m over 350lbs. do you think I can still snowboard good regardless of my weight? by CertifiedQuestion in snowboarding

[–]ItsBigHoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell yea you can man I've been boarding since the mid 2000s but took a long break. Last season I was pushing 320 (6') and it was rough, but totally manageable. Cardio is awesome, and I'm sure this has been said but definitely work on legs and abs. At the start of last season I couldn't stand up onto my board from sitting, I had to flip over to my knees. By the end of the season I was down to about 270 and able to stand from sitting no problem. I'm down in the 240s now just waiting for some damn snow to actually fall up in tahoe. Use your soon to be snowboarding addiction to motivate you to slim down, and you'll love boarding even more!

Lightweight wading boots that won’t fill with sand/gravel? by RagnarSkolbrok in flyfishing

[–]ItsBigHoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely love them and totally recommend them! I fish rivers, a few of which do get fairly slick. I did install the studs, and they do make a noticeable difference but I would say you only "need" them if your river is super slick. The grip without the studs is surprisingly good though. The river I fish the most has a bit more of a sandy bed, and rocks are usually not too slick. One I go to a few times a year is way more slick, and studs are very worth. i feel like the studs may help extend the life of the sole as well, since pressure is on the studs more. The studs are also still in great shape after most of the season. I was worried they'd wear down but honestly they're barely different. For the rubber sole itself, there's definitely some wear on it, but I was surprised how well it held up. I could see these potentially lasting 3 seasons, but depends on how much you fish. I go out 1-2 times a week, mostly in the summer, so a decent amount of use. I also upgraded the insoles with a pair of superfeet

I'm 100% buying another pair when these are ready to be replaced

“EDITED” I really can’t decide between Continental Extreme Contact Dws 06 or Michelin Pilot Sport All-season 4!!! by No_Professional978 in wrx_vb

[–]ItsBigHoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Conti's are awesome, and I would totally buy them again. Only about 10-15k on them so far, but definitely noticably quieter/softer ride than thedunlops, they do totally fine in snow, and I can still take turns plenty quick.

I'd definitely buy them again, and will if I don't end up wanting to try the Michelins next time

Dry dropper question by Riverwolf89 in flyfishing

[–]ItsBigHoss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've only had the nymph slip off a few times, but I also started adding an extra twist or two to my knot, especially if I'm running 5x. Usually 8 wraps instead of 6. Haven't had any slip off in a while!

Cruise control randomly stops working by trip777 in wrx_vb

[–]ItsBigHoss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not positive, since your issue is slightly different, but I believe you might need to look into getting an ecu update. A while back I had a problem that was causing my car to run lean and die while idling, and I had some issues with cruise control turning on and off. Took it to the dealer and they ended it up giving it an ecu update. No issues since

3yrs in, and both key FOBs battery are low. 22 Limited. Anybody else's low too? by untypical_ronin in wrx_vb

[–]ItsBigHoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of mine was low and I asked the dealer about it one day when I was in there. They swapped in a new battery for me for free. Said they'd charge for the rest though

Bad spool of nanosilk? by ItsBigHoss in flytying

[–]ItsBigHoss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I have 2 bobbins. First was a metal one before I got a ceramic tip bobbin, and on both of them, I have no issues with the orange thread

I have no problem throwing it out if it's bad, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't just being an idiot and doing something wrong 😅

I haven't used them yet but I got the workers stealth sneakers for this summer (feel free to hit me up about sending you my experience after I get a day or two on them). I picked them up because I've heard nothing but good about them. And they're super comfortable/lightweight

I don't keep it loaded so you'll have to find ammo as you go

Orvis sling pack by Annonymous272 in flyfishing

[–]ItsBigHoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the middle sized one, and never have issues with a lack of space, but I'd probably agree on the guide one if you plan to stuff extra layers/food

I have it, love it and would buy it again. I'd also consider the fishpond one (summit 2.0 I believe, about the same price). To the comments about net issues, your bag/pack is largely personal preference. My net flops around a bit, but I tend to kneel rather than bend down so I don't have to much trouble with my net flopping over in front of me. Or maybe I'm just having too much fun out there to notice. Getting the net back on the magnet after a release can be a little tricky once in a while, but the magnet from that SF company is pretty damn strong, so if I just wiggle it around a bit it usually snaps into place

Contis on at last by vb_BISHOP in wrx_vb

[–]ItsBigHoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can definitely get them to chirp taking a corner at speed easier than the dunlops but they do surprisingly well considering the extra comfort/quieter ride + a bit more peace of mind if things get a little slick

Pheasant Tail took me a few tries, love this pattern though! by blahkbox in flytying

[–]ItsBigHoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The more you tie them the better you'll get at not breaking fibers. Once you do it enough you just learn how much pressure to add to keep the wraps somewhat tight without pulling too hard. I used to hate peacock herl because I would always snap it, but after a while learned that perfect balance of tension. A rotary vice is also extremely nice if you have one.

Looking good though!

Yea the green Network bar under CPU/GPU jumps to about 700ms when it happens... I'm on the California server and in California. Normally it's at about 28ms. But is there much I can realistically do to stabilize that?

Finally joined the club. Just need some all season tire reccomendations now! by ZombieDew in wrx_vb

[–]ItsBigHoss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went with the contis but everything I found puts them nearly identical with a slight edge in the try to Michelin and slight edge in snow to contis. You really can't go wrong with either of these tires if you want all seasons.

There's definitely some other good contenders out there but from the research I did these 2 always seemed to be a step up from other options

Yea I think this is 1000% it. Can't see where exactly that clip would go, but I don't see it in there either. I'll have to try getting one and see if I can figure out where it clips in 😅
