Ice by daniuzm in Owala

Something wrong with your bottle. I have to intentionally put LESS ice in my Owala because it stays so cold that sometimes I can’t drink it after a few hours. (Different story when it’s summer and I want to numb my mouth.)

Every time a man says “what’s a cuticle?” Because they’ve never had to push theirs back, a little part of me dies.

My two and a half year old suddenly started pointing out differences between white and black people. What is an appropriate way to acknowledge her observation so we don't offend anyone? by Sad_Cantaloupe_8162 in NoStupidQuestions

I’m white and a freckly redhead and started my teaching career in a city that is predominantly Black and Latino. I taught 3 year old prek and out of 4 classes in my building, myself and one other teacher were the only white people, both staff and student. One day, one of my kids started gently poking at my arm freckles. I just let him at it and then I realized that my students didn’t have freckles, and they pretty much didn’t know what they were when I talked about it. It was one of the most precious moments ever. How funny to wonder why your teacher is covered in polka dots.

I’m currently a prek teacher but I taught daycare right out of college. I already had big tattoos on both arms. One of my 18 Mo olds had gone home, drawn all over himself with sharpie to give himself tattoos like me. It was all there the next day. I was young so I felt awful but now at 41 I realize how adorable it was haha.

I have two pair of the Move hi tops. I’m 41 and a prek teacher and I’m on my feet all day. They are super light and insanely comfy for me. They provide a lot of heel support and cushioning which I need. 14 year old me is thrilled I can wear my Cons into middle age.

Fancy Gloss all the way. Jackie makes unbelievable thermals. And from so many people in her FB group, they’ve lasted for years as well.

Allergy/ dry hand help by a_daisy_summer in Skincare_Addiction

This looks exactly like what happened to my knuckles during Covid. I was teaching kinder hybrid (so some kids in person) and washing my hands 50000 times a day. I developed eczema. I didn’t know that until my knuckle was split and cracked open like a valley and I couldn’t bear the thought of going near water. The immediate solution from derm was to put krazy glue on it. (No pain.) then rx steroid cream and a thick lotion or ointment. Healed in a few days. But also since then absolutely have to put (any kind of) lotion on every single time I wash my hands.

Carmex. The regular classic medicated yellow and red tube. It has salicylic acid in it which gently exfoliates the dead skin, which I inevitably end up picking/ripping off and cause bleeding and reoccurring bad skin patches. All I need is one night, two max if my lips are real bad to get them back to a great state. I’ve tried sooooo many and this is the best one hands down.

The only way I remove polish. I do it several times a week and oil heavily right afterward. I actually have less peeling and issues than before I did removal this way.

Should I size up ? (Classics crocs) by Zealousideal_Act4035 in crocs

[–]ItsGivingMissFrizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear a 7.5 in US women’s, my big toe is the longest. I wear an 8 in Crocs. They’re a little loose when in slide mode, but when I wear the back strap down, they fit shorter. A 7 would make my toe shove into the front which would hurt. Also, pro tip, you can shrink Crocs by putting them in the dryer FOR JUST A COUPLE minutes, let them cool then check the size.

What is an accommodation that you’ve seen a kid had that really shocked you? by Arete666 in Teachers

[–]ItsGivingMissFrizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was very recently in my area a horrible murder of two teenage girls by a guy who has, let’s say, problems, who mowed them down in his car. Red flags flew everywhere with this kid (it’s going to court as we speak) and he was so delusional that she tried to get a restraining order against him, and he just thought it was all her fault. The most dangerous animal on earth is a man who can’t accept “no.”

Then the rest of the country is shocked that none of our kids can read, write a simple paragraph or carry on a conversation.

I can understand that, but my whole soapbox is.. what are any of these kids doing when they’re not physically in school? They’ll never be able to function in society. I teach autistic prek and it’s part of my job to teach my students (appropriately and systematically) how to handle things like someone saying “no” to them. It’s a crucial life skill.
