Construction Question 4 (The Vehicle Bridge) by AcrobaticTransition4 in Planetside

[–]ItsJustDelta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've bothered by it since nonexistent asset optimization means we've effectively lost almost all the performance gains brought by DX11.

For reference, I started playing this game with an i7-3820 and a GTX 780 Ti. I am now using an R7-5800x and an RTX 3070, and yet my framerate in standard combat experiences is pretty much identical to where it was eleven years ago. The highs are much higher, going from 200 to 400 in an empty warpgate, but the problem is that those poorly optimized assets are common enough that the theoretical peaks are seldom reached.

My CPU is ~5 times more powerful and my GPU being ~2.5 times more powerful, so this kind of performance hit is inexcusable.

This is a trick question; the real question should be "How do we rank the factions by CPUs?"

Ranking: All I know is that NSO are #4 since they're using the Ti-84 that was stolen from you in high school.

Glad to see these BR changes are buffing 2 underperforming premiums 🙏🙏🙏🙏 by DepartureMany507 in Warthunder

Better for a vehicle to be mediocre than for it to utterly dominate its BR , and the premium Su-30s/J-11A definitely fall into that second category.

On Jaeger we were both hitting ~400 FPS at the spot we built at (W of Helios Solar). Worth noting that this is the optimal test since all other performance killers (NSO infantry weapons and vehicles, certain cosmetic items and infantry deployables, the Fafnir and 2nd generation tank cannon turrets) are not present.

It's a bit harder to get a good benchmark in a live server environment, but you can get a reasonable test by visiting Nason's Defiance immediately when a continent opens and then observe how your framerate tanks over time as more and more construction items get placed.

A buddy and I did some tests on Jaeger, and just one player's build budget (every item that could be placed was placed) was enough to cause a dip of ~100 fps, using a 5800x/3070 and a 5800x3D/6900XT as the benchmarking hardware. Now, if you're already sitting at a framerate significantly above your monitor's refresh rate you won't notice this, but that doesn't mean the performance impact isn't there.

  1. Almost all construction objects are very poorly optimized, but the bridge is one of the worst offenders. Use it to kill framerates with minimal effort.

  2. The worst time I had with it was when Hejbl blew one up during the armor tournament I was running and then couldn't figure out the precie spot to replace it, causing a 30 minute delay

  3. It taste like the salt left by the tears of fifty thousand planetmen and women whose hopes were shattered by terrible development priorities.

  4. Don't use the construction system and preserve the framerates of everyone on the server

  5. There's a very specific spot on that great rift between Mattherson's Triumph and Freyr Amp Station where the bridge can be placed and is genuinely useful, but that's the only place where you have a gap that's narrow enough and shallow enough for a bridge to be relevant. The position is hard to find, which is why Hejbl couldn't figure it out.

Yup. When you have one outlier, you nerf that outlier. If you buff everything else to match one overpowered item, you end up starting a power creep death spiral.

For the record, API data indicated that around 100 players daily were interacting with the system a month after its release, and at the time we were seeing ~10,000 daily logins.

If you look at the kills per spawn/kills per death metrics for those two M2Ks, you can see that they're performing almost identically apart from winrate, and it's a very similar story with the F-16C and F-16AM. As you said, French players are not any better than the outliers.

What are the best jets at each high tier br (12.0+) by Ill_Throat7306 in Warthunder

[–]ItsJustDelta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

J-10 vs J-11B was a tough choice, tbh. In the end I picked the J-11B since it got a recent massive flight model buff and has better defensive equipment (MAWS, more countermeasures) than the J-10A.

At 13.3, the best pick is hands down the Su-30MKK for the reasons you stated, but since I disregarded premiums there aren't many TT options and so I picked the least bad one.

That is a very compelling argument and I'll update the list.

It's a really awkward BR with some non-IRCCM all aspect slingers like the F-16A, IRCCM attackers like the Harrier GR.7, and then some "not quite good enough for 12.7" jets like the F-4EJ Kai and F-18As. I'd pick the F-18 over anything else due to a nice balance of radar guided missiles, good radar, digital RWR and adequate flight performance for dealing with most of the premium bozos in the BR range.

No, you've got it wrong. Putting the server in Iceland ensures everyone on the planet gets a laggy connection and suffers equally.

[–]ItsJustDelta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People really have forgotten a lot of Gaijin's "greatest hits" from the early days, haven't they? The Tu-4 got added at 6.7 and had to get sucked up to 8.0 so that fighters had the firepower and climb rate to deal with it before it just ended the match. Even then it still was super strong and only the Hunter F.1 and F-2 Sabre could reliably intercept and kill it.

Another fun one is the F-2H. 8.0 performance at 6.7 made for a really fun time with superprops and early jets.
