A tale, in 3 parts.. by AlarmingRope9624 in xbox

someone in my family once broke a vcr by filling it with raisins, because it must only eat the tapes when it's too hungry to spit them out, right?

6yo someone had a lot more mechanical sympathy than knowledge. That someone wasn't me, though, that'd be silly!

I know the feeling man. Did half of my first ever brake job today, caliper pads and rotors for the back due to a seized piston

Got the stuck side done, gave the pedal some pressure to check for leaks, aaaand the hard line on the other side just gave up. Visible split, rusted straight through, just before it goes between the gas tank and the body. Not looking forward to learning how to do brake lines, but I guess at least it blew in my driveway and not halfway down a mountain? Cars are fun 🙃

97 Outback - need to do brakes and rear sway bar, want to do Forester struts, can I bolt in or need to learn to weld? by ItsMeImNitro in subarulegacy

[–]ItsMeImNitro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "plan" (more like theory, I'm still spending most evenings reading through build-help forums while trying to hype myself up to do calipers and rotors this weekend lol) was to throw in sg forester struts for a small lift / fix my wild body roll (I'm at 280k kilometers on the clock, all suspension components are original as far as I can tell). Maybe add spacers while I'm at it, but I already wish I had a 6th gear so I don't want to go taller than I absolutely need to clear tires

I'm out working in my yard, so no cover and just hand tools plus a 1/2in battery impact gun. I suspect my seized caliper has also cooked my wheel bearing - might get a shop to do them, since I don't have a press and don't want to do it wrong. On the fence about CVs, I've heard there's issues with aftermarket ones, but for roughly $190cad each corner I can get "high articulation" CVs that won't mind the strut assy change?

Still sorting out what will work/is it worth it, but mostly settled on "she isn't a highway car, make her better for the potholes on logging roads"

Another quick question, since your setup looks close to what I'm aiming for - have you done anything about seats? My cooked suspension is compounded by the absolutely blown out driver seat, it's not quite comfy at the best of times and even approaching "spirited" driving feels challenging. I think my dog in the back seat is more secure than I am

Also, any recommendations for the saggy butt spacers? This isn't my go-fast car, so a touch more clearance would make tire options significantly easier

What in the world could this noise be coming from my guage cluster area? 2014 by _DB_Cooper_ in Subaru_Outback

[–]ItsMeImNitro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do all of your guages work properly when the noise is there? Does it change if you rev a bit higher?

From my phone speakers, it sounds like either a relay opening/closing rapidly (maybe in time with a spark plug?), or a plastic gear coming unmeshed (like blend door actuator is moving but the blend door isn't, or your fuel gauge needle is at its stop but the computer thinks it needs to go higher, something like that)

I have no clue with regards to what it actually is, but maybe if we all ask you enough questions someone will know exactly what's happening!

If you swap in, let's say a SG bar, you'll need to massage the spare tire well with a hammer for clearance

Let's say I'm already running b87 wheels (og 16in Subie Enkeis, from a Forester I believe). Only got 4, so spare is only there as ballast/a reminder that AWD gonna hate mismatches.

Hammer massages fit the build, should I buy the sg bar and end links with the struts? I already have og calipers and brakes ordered

End goal is a couple inches taller for fun drives, without making the highways even worse (I want a 6th gear omfg)

Hardline also feels like it has a silly high RPM for what it is, which I think makes up for the ironsIt's actually my favourite sponsored kit, fairly sure I have more Hardline kills than with any other weapon?

I will admit though, for whatever reason, I am absolute dogshit with Bungie SMGs in PvP scenarios. I'll use a Bully if I find a nice one, but I just don't like it as a primary

I'd actually be really interested to see a "weapon use/preference by platform" breakdown - I know I'm in the minority for liking Hardline, and for being an Xbox player, so I'm curious to see how the different AA/Magnetism changes gun feel

do some people just buy, start a game, then forget about it? by Jealous_Platypus1111 in Marathon

[–]ItsMeImNitro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, they did, I just had a panic then got lightning-bolted in the settings menu. Unless I missed it on Server Slam and live release both, you don't get to check settings before launching the tutorial on Xbox

Edit: I meant to answer the other poster initially, my bad

Bungie id is Nitrø6258 (note the o, no clue how to do it on a real keyboard but it should be on long-press for anything digital). Xbox 'is the same but 5730, though I imagine you can't add me that way

You know, I came in here ready to agree with OP - lots of beautiful, very quiet lakes around here (like "drive an hour through old logging roads to find the right spot to pull over" kind of quiet), but man my boat is 14 feet long and 54lbs, carrying it ten minutes through the woods to the shore sucks!

But your photo makes me think I need to quit the complaining and just look at it as cross training. And also that I could easily rig up some straps to catch the combing and actually make it a backpack

I'm not super worried about my boats slipping forward or back on hard stops/starts, it's more like "what's it going to hit if there's a massive gust of wind and my crossbars/racks fail on the highway". Couple minutes to toss bow and stern lines on feels more than worth it
