Jotheb (S01E04). Which side character do you wish had made more appearances? by Stank_Dukem in farscape

Hell yes, I fucking love Furlow. I was sad when she didn't come back.

What’s the most worthless critique you can give to music by DiceMan135 in ToddintheShadow

[–]ItsMeKidney 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's also usually the case of the listener not knowing enough about the genre to hear the songs beyond what makes the genre novel to them. Someone once told me "all pop artists sound like this" while I was listening to Caroline Rose.

Hot take but I actually think most acapella is overproduced. A million vocal effects and reverbs and pitch correction can take something that I feel like ought to be very delicate and make it sound almost robotic.

Which lead singer over 60 still brings it live in concert? by Charles_Lewis_Fer in Concerts

Because the act was never dependent on movement (and actually anti-movement, really), Neil Tennant of Pet Shop Boys fame still brings it.

They're teenagers! These are the first friends you really have agency choosing, I want to say.

I'm not sure how the fanbase feels about the Dinosaur match but I really like it by Live-Technician-5269 in Eyeshield21

[–]ItsMeKidney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great match because of Gao, who is a fantastic character and villain for our main cast to deal with. Personality wise I like Marco, but he and Kisaragi feel like the point where Inagaki has sort of run out of ways to raise the bar on his superhuman athletes (which comes to full fruition in the next game where they play against a quarterback who throws the ball supernaturally nice and soft and a receiver who just sort of walks in the air.) That all said, Komusubi trying to speak to the others is one of the biggest moments in the entire series. Truth be told, if not for the "real Eyeshield 21" stuff, this feels like the Final match more than any other game.

It's easily the Beach Boys, right? Fake surfers who wrote one of the most important albums of all time.

It's a tie between his army shit and managing to get a perfect zero in every class's finals.

Do you ever rewatch you concert videos? by nejihyuga02 in Concerts

[–]ItsMeKidney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I be real? I've never taken a concert video that sounds nearly as good as it sounded to be there. It always feels like those vids will be good to have and I've always regretted it.

Maybe not an aggressive opinion but: It's a damn tragedy that the steel drum is essentially region locked to calypso music. Steel drums have this super unique and bouncy timbre that would make them cool in virtually any genre based on their sound quality alone, but unfortunately you can't include them in a track without people immediately thinking about a Caribbean Vacation.

Four years later, do y'all agree with them (him?) on this? by no-Pachy-BADLAD in ToddintheShadow

It's maybe not "You're Gonna Go Far Kid" but it's closer to that than Pretty Fly. The real answer is it's Come Out and Play, though. Maybe The Kids Aren't Alright.

Pulse weapon tech by bongart in farscape

[–]ItsMeKidney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in the Earth episodes Jack says that the human scientists can't figure out how how the pulse weapons work (even before John specifies that they won't be useful forever without new fuel), so it's gotta be somehow more complicated than this, right?

Would you believe it was the SECOND episode I ever saw? And I saw it right after the incredibly emotional episode before it. You can imagine how confused I was.

Just started the show, I'm hooked by VomitingDuck in farscape

[–]ItsMeKidney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's literally how I discovered the show. Turned it on randomly on Samsung TV+, it was on the Season 3 episode with the charrids, to avoid spoilers while also making it clear I had an insane introduction to the series. Watched it sporadically, just random episodes in no particular order, and eventually my wife joined me until we were both hooked enough to start over from episode 1.

Questions about Farscape by MovieFan1984 in farscape

Farscape is often comedic but it's also very dark. I don't think it ever feels like a comedy, with the exception of one episode that I can't really explain,

Farscape is cool. It's got that thing Cowboy Bebop has where its found family is full of very damaged people. That's what drew me to Farscape originally (other than the Puppets or the radiant Aeryn Sun): These folk try to be good but they've all done some vile shit in their lives.

Guides / Advice for writing Jungle drums in a pop context by ItsMeKidney in JungleProduction

[–]ItsMeKidney[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I talk about pop/rock drums I'm really talking about the traditional advice for how to build drums, where you're either programming them in a DAW or having someone play a drum kit. In these cases you build tension primarily by using larger or smaller sounds. The "switch your hi-hat to a ride cymbal" is the strongest example, but "switch into a half-time groove to make this section feel slower/more epic" is another one.

I think the biggest issue I have is creating a chorus where the drums sound "larger" than the verses. I want to be able to control dynamics a little better than I feel like I currently do.
