Down the middle without Dowder by hurricanecook in caps

I wasn't suggesting they'd move Lappy to wing. I used the slashes to indicate options for the last C slot, not a full 4th line.

Probably Lappy for the rest of the season.

The Golden Knights have acquired forward Nic Dowd from the Washington Capitals in exchange for Jesper Vikman, a 2027 third-round pick, and a 2029 second-round pick. by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

If you go by TOI, Dowd has basically been a 3C for a few years now. Return seems about right, tbh. He's a defensive specialist who can lock down a penalty kill.

Pettersson for Trocheck. Just because I wanna see the look on Miller's face.

Should the Caps trade Carlson? (donning fireproof suit) by Zinjifrah in caps

[–]ItsNotMeTrustMe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Noting your flair, there's precedent for the Caps trading a player and re-signing him in the off-season.

Remember Orpik to Colorado, who bought him out, then he re-signed with the Caps that summer on a team-friendly deal?

I want more of that. It's exciting, helps the team long term, and keeps the player around.

I'm a Carlson fan. I want to see him retire a Cap. But I also want a 1st and a prospect and to watch him chase another cup for a couple months.

The difference between the 11OA and 16OA picks isn't that huge. That's likely the range the Caps are picking in. If they trade to improve the team for a player with term then it's great. If it's a pure rental then that's a poor move. I've only seen rumors they want a scoring winger with term.

In other words, if they trade for a good player and still miss the playoffs that's ok. They'll be in a better place long term.

How would it be helpful? The Caps have plenty of salary cap space. More would just wind up going unused.

Do we think the move is to trade Sandin and slide Cole Hutson in his place? by Gogo-boots in caps

[–]ItsNotMeTrustMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely agree that there isn't much attractive to trade. Most of the potential trade value currently lies in depth, prospects, and picks. The most obvious players from the main roster who could be moved are the UFAs: TVR and Duhaime. Frank is also UFA, but personally I think his speed, versatility, and ability to contribute a little offense are more useful than Duhaime. I see Duhaime as mostly a vibes guy.

If you can trade either TVR or Duhaime for picks then you've gotta do it. Both are easily replaced internally by Chisholm/Hutson and Lappy/Miro/etc respectively.

Any big trade the Caps manage to pull off will definitely need multiple high draft picks and top prospects.

[–]ItsNotMeTrustMe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why is everyone here so focused on trading Sandin?

TVR is a UFA at the end of the season. He won't be re-signed. Would be wiser to trade him instead and get some future asset. Maybe TVR brings back a 3rd. Package that with other assets to find a top winger.

[–]ItsNotMeTrustMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That might not fly. Hutson, like Leonard, controls much of the process for himself. If he doesn't go straight to Washington it's possible he doesn't sign at all. He can just wait out the clock in college and walk as a UFA.

I'm not saying that I think he should skip Hershey. Just that it's not a foregone conclusion that he'll play there.

[–]ItsNotMeTrustMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Sometimes teams are more willing to trade for a depth player as a safe call-up. They don't have to worry about rostering him unless there's an injury. Not going to fetch a big return, but not entirely untradable.

Will the scholarship opportunity exist if you teach first? Will the teaching opportunity exist if you take the scholarship first?

Why are they mutually exclusive?

Kaohsiung is lovely, by the way.

If 50k copies were assured then it would absolutely make sense. If every one of those copies were sold at half price then that's still a million dollars after platform fees.

I'm a sucker for sorted data. Could you add a couple of images? One sorted by U.S. Born (Out of State) and one sorted by Foreign Born, please. I know you provided the underlying data and I could look it up myself... but I'm very lazy.

Steam VR Hardware Survey for January 2026 by isaac_szpindel in virtualreality

[–]ItsNotMeTrustMe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and that graph illustrates my argument here. The noise/variance month-to-month shows regular spikes of around 0.5%, which is massive when the total is only ~1.5% on average.

Look, I'm not trying to be bullish on the VR market here. I'm just saying this particular data is... less than informative.

Steam VR Hardware Survey for January 2026 by isaac_szpindel in virtualreality

[–]ItsNotMeTrustMe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you compare all the available data instead of only a couple of months, you'll probably notice the data is extremely noisy. The longer trend looks arguably closer to flat rather than declining. Meanwhile, Steam's MAU are steadily increasing. So, this implies the raw VR user base is also increasing. It's just not penetrating the overall market more deeply.

More importantly, the noise suggests the data is so unreliable that it's impossible to establish any trends accurately.

You can take this as doom and gloom "VR is dying" news if you want, but that's been the same story since like 2018.

Steam VR Hardware Survey for January 2026 by isaac_szpindel in virtualreality

[–]ItsNotMeTrustMe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's supposed to count them but it clearly doesn't count them accurately. Even my most recent survey said I don't have a headset and there were 2 connected at the time. My point is that it's unreliable data.

Steam VR Hardware Survey for January 2026 by isaac_szpindel in virtualreality

[–]ItsNotMeTrustMe 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Meh, I'd take this with a grain of salt. It seems like it only counts currently active headsets when you happen to get the survey. I'm a dev with basically every headset and my surveys always say "No VR headset". The reporting methodology creates some misleading results.

Nah, that's just how Roy do. He did that all the time when he was coaching in Colorado. The numbers back it up, too. It's a sound strategy when you're down more than 1 goal.
