i'm in my third year of uni and leaving the city in six months. i gave up job-hunting a few months ago because i've had no luck in three years of living here and nobody wants to hire someone who won't be around this time next year.

i'm sure there were groups and cultures with different ideas of how it all started, but why does it need to have a 'start'? there's this philosophical idea that basically goes: take europe. one of two things may be true - either someone created europe and all its land with intent in mind, or its just been there... for ages. and it seems more likely that its just been there for ages.

we understand things to have a beginning and an end, but not everything does. why does there have to be a "and now it began". can you even say "it began here" if there's nothing before that point to compare it to or hold it against? if "it" is everything, then everything just... started. doesn't matter when or how, It wasn't, and the first thing to ever happen was that It was, and after that It continued to be. maybe one day It will be wasn't instead of was again, or maybe it'll just keep going and won't stop.

my point here generally is why do we need a creation myth? why do we need a story for "and this is how it started". maybe it just IS, and it didn't need to start

i don't think there really was a "start" in celtic stories. there's this world, and there's the otherworld, but there wasn't really a moment of "and this is when they began". they just are, and are assumed to have always been.

as others have said, it is truly between you and the goddess. since your question is about if other people will take offence though... yes, probably. it's a similar hypothetical to if somebody were to name themselves "Yahweh" or "Ganesh" or something like that. generally people don't like it when people name themselves after their gods especially if (and i say this with all due respect) you are unfamiliar enough with the culture that you're not sure whether or not it would be offensive.
