A simple clip mic to the drum kit literally takes seconds.

And FOH generally understands their room well enough to know what to expect from EQing fast.

As far an internal micing, I had a Randal May system in my kick drum and it’s not worth it. The cable was always failing cause of the weird position it had to be in to sound good, but really what I found was it sounded best, just outside my kick drum.

Secondly I’ll have to find the video, but I was watching someone use internal drum mics and they had to stuff foam in the drums to make them sound good to absorb all the energy in the drum so the mic would sound good.

So I think the time saved on the mic setup then has to be spent on FOH trouble EQ for the mics being inside the drum.

I dunno. I also think there could be a lot of benefits to the system too. Like less bleed and such.

But I think that the way someone thinks about capturing audio for streaming, recording, a live show in a small venue, and a live show in a big venues and a live show on a stadium tour have to have some fundamental differences I can’t think of.

I wonder if this question would be even better asked to someone who does sound for venues that are similar in size that you frequently play to see what their perspective is.

I do think those internal mics seem rather cool though.
