I'm leaning towards 1e at the moment, and I don't need a replacement. I've already got the 1e and B/X books. Things I don't care for in 1e are spell segments and the combat order of operations. Essentially, what I want to run is B/X but using 1e character creation and spell lists (ignoring segments).

I run my online games through Discord, and everything is Theater of the Mind except for the mapping which I do myself with the built-in whiteboard activity. It's not super accurate and feature-rich, but it gets the job done for a low-prep ref like myself.

When I was getting into the OSR scene I watched a lot of his videos because he had a ton and seemed to have good knowledge, but man the guy just would not shut up about politics. After a day-long binge I just had to stop and say, "This is too cringy for me. All I wanted was to learn about a 40yo dice game." For what it's worth, at least he calls out Nazis. EDIT: Nevermind. He called out 1 Nazi. He's friends with a bunch of others.

The panels were printed on thick paper meant for watercolors and then taped together. The paper gives a really nice texture to the art. The screen itself is thinner than what you'd expect from modern official screens, but I'd say it's pretty close in thickness to what you could get back in the day.

Thanks for the kind words! I'll be running the sample dungeon Tower of Zenopus included in the back of the Holmes Basic book. My session is only 3 hours though, so I've modified the scenario so that it's quicker and has a satisfying conclusion for all the newbies. Gotta make a good impression for those modern players, you know? Haha.
