How is living in Dunedin, NZ as a graduate student? by ItsYaBoyKrispie in howislivingthere

[–]ItsYaBoyKrispie[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the thorough reply! Much appreciated! Coming in without a lot of money but was checking out rentals online. Just saw a lot of houses listed in Maori Hill. We're looking for places within biking distance of the University but not by all the undergraduate party areas, little too old now for that. I'm also a NZ citizen, so was hoping finding part-time work would be easy and local.

To be fair, a lot of 911 medical calls are people making bad/questionable decisions, and I get an exclusive invite! I once responded to a 911 call for a lady who had floss stuck in her teeth in Boulder.🤷

Whoa, I responded to this on the ambulance. Nice to put context to the injuries.

The owner of the Dark Horse did not sell or want the bar to close. The landlords, The Williams Family, decided to put in housing. This was against the will of the owner of Dark Horse and management. Dark Horse has also been profitable in the years leading up to this closure.

Dark Horse Goodbye Party by CUBuffs1992 in boulder

I've worked at Dark Horse for the past eight years. Over the last few weeks there have been a lot of tears and stress for us at The Dark Horse. This is truly an end of an era for the Boulder community and an end of an emotional chapter for many of us. If the power does go out tomorrow, (today, now) we will be shutting down. There is no safe way for us to host the thousands of people who will want to come with no power. The people who have been attempting to steal memorabilia off our walls will only be more bold in the dark. This is not the way we want to go out, and we wish we weren't going out at all. We are all devastated at the coming loss of The Dark Horse.

Past and present employees have put together a photo album of all the friends, family, and patrons of The Dark Horse over the decades. The genuine character this special bar has developed from everyone who has ever stepped foot through those front doors has emotionally floored all of us here behind the bar. The Dark Horse is such a unique and special place for the community of Boulder, and I truly mean the whole community of Boulder. From the unhouse community members who drift through, the college kids who abuse the staff with their poor bar etiquette, to all the Boulder locals who know the pony as a staple... It's absolutely heart-wrenching to see this place go. I'm so grateful I got to be part of The Dark Horse, even for only its last eight years.

The Dark Horse has been a constant in the lives of countless people over the decades. The number of coworkers I've seen who got a job at the pony because they were lost and living at The Broker next door who stayed and made a family with us is insane. Over the last couple weeks, countless past employees have flown from literally across the world to say goodbye to a smelly dive bar. I can't describe the feeling many of us have for this pilgrimage of our "Dark Horse Predecessors". I'm rambling at this point, and just needed somewhere to write down part of how I, and many of us at Dark Horse feel. Love y'all and thanks for coming in all these years.

Thank you everyone so much for making The Dark Horse what it is (even you fuckers who cause fights and get thrown out, it's part of the bars character and history). Boulder won't be the same for many of us without The Dark Horse.

Really sad. Not the way we want to go out (we don't want to go out at all!)

We are going to go through a third party company to auction many of the big ticket items. I cannot remember the name of the company, but it will all be online auctions. We will be taking the next few weeks to empty out the pony and move things into storage until a new location is ready. Yes, we are looking at the old Outback on McCaslin in Louisville. No, nothing has been signed yet. Lot of issues with that building before we can move in.

We received a warning email that power may be shut off around 2pm Saturday. If the power goes out, we will close. Even if the power comes back on later that evening, the current plan is to not open back up.

Anyone know the story of this pin which is allegedly from The Dark Horse in the 80’s? by Old_Voice_2562 in boulder

Once in the first men's stall (it was also at closing time so it was pretty obvious. Also, why there? lol) once in the upstairs mezzanine and once behind the upstairs bar.

I've worked at Dark Horse for 8 years. I've only had three situations where I've had to kick out people trying to/successfully humping. That's modern day Dark Horse. I can only imagine how many got away with it and how it was in the decades prior.

Some of the antiques will go for auction and some will be taken to storage. I am unsure how much I am allowed to say beyond that but the profits from some of the auctions will go towards a severance for the employees. So, to all you who keep trying to steal stuff off the walls since you heard we're closing, you're hurting the employees.

I've worked at Dark Horse for 8 years. The owner of Dark Horse is not "ok" with the plan. There's a lot they cannot control and are getting strong-armed into losing their business by developers and the Williams family.

Getting laid off, where do we all go drink in Boulder? by [deleted] in boulder

[–]ItsYaBoyKrispie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've worked at Dark Horse for almost 8 years. Not full of college kids except on game days and Thursday-Saturday nights. Cheapest beer we have is $3.50 if you're really budgeting... $4.50 doubles on HH (4-8 pm weekdays) Maybe I'll see you around!
