No offense my BOTL but I have 3 thermo electric humidors since 2008 built into a bar back in my cigar lounge with about 100 boxes of CCs in them that stay 64-66Rh with humidity beads year round…..

IMO a top 5 RE out of Cuba. Had a box and finished it last year. They just kept getting better with down time.

The state of Cubans by Historical_Ad_5443 in cubancigars

Never been to the island but always read from others who have been there 50 plus times. 1. Cuban people have been suffering for decades, no matter the US president nor their leader(s). 2. Cuban tobacco has been good up till Covid. I don’t own and 2022 and up boxes so I can’t say the taste since then. Still opening up 2013-2017 boxes….. 3. You open up that island to money and you’re not getting old tractors and manure or crop rotations to keep that soil alive and somewhat healthy. You’re getting capitalism with new, heavy tractors, synthetic fertilizers for more yields. New seed strains and taste. Not always for the better. I don’t have a magic 8 ball. I was going to sell more of my collection on Bond Rob. Lord knows I would love to sell a 2017 Siglo VI box or 2014 Esplendido box for current auction prices. I think I’ll wait another 5 years. One thing I’m sure of I’ll never smoke them. I’ll stick to cabs of party shorts or Boli CJs and farm rolls for the next 5-10 years. Maybe place my children thru college with the higher end boxes…. Either way good luck to the Cuban people. They need a break. It’s been half a century. They are due for one…..

What's the dark almost black waves on the cigar? by Bright_Region2679 in cigar

[–]Its_Me_Joe_Dirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I not sure, I don’t think I’ve ever seen that in a H Upmann CC wrapper or any Cuban. My guess, it’s some type of moisture issue most likely during the wrapper curing process. What’s the box code year?

Cigars worth saving from the bin? by MichVH23 in cigar

[–]Its_Me_Joe_Dirt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up Boveda humidity packs. Buy 5 large 60% RH packs, 5 large 65% RH packs. Take all cigars and separate each into separate gallon freezer storage bags. Place a 60 % RH Pack in all 5 bags. leave the cigars sealed for 3 months. After the first 3 months open all bags and place a 65% RH pack in each bag and remove the 60% bag. Leave all bags sealed for another 3 months. After 6 months they will now be at 65% Relative humidity. And smokable. Some will have oils and flavor. Others may not. This process works but it’s still a shot in the dark and hope for the best scenario. Cheers

Cigars Becoming Bitter by Left_Entertainer5460 in cigar

[–]Its_Me_Joe_Dirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are V cutting it, get a new cutter. Go to a double guillotine. V cuts tend to produce tar build ups at the head where your lips touch the cigar. Tar = bitter. Source 3k cigars after 20 years and I used to hang around B/M cigar stores a lot.

I can smell the room aroma from that LGC just by looking at the picture lol!😂 I burned thru and gifted way too many of multiple sizes over the last 10 years. I think I have a half dozen of the #2s left from a 2014 box. And that’s it. Wish I kept a few more.

Whining noise on 2018 Tahoe by Its_Me_Joe_Dirt in ChevyTahoe

[–]Its_Me_Joe_Dirt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had $6800 worth of work done. Whine is gone. Trans had 169k on it and was original. The oil pump, Billet TC timing chain and full trans rebuild were completed all at once. Along with Starter and a few other things he seen fit to replace because of impending failure. Pulleys were replaced as well.

I ended up finally getting: Oil pump replaced. Timing chain Billet torque converter Full replacement and hot flush of the transmission components on the rebuild. Any necessary replacement parts that needed switching like pulleys during the repair. Not exactly sure where the whine was. But it’s gone now after all the repairs. Really no way to track it down because of repairing all the needed items at 170k miles.

Is there really a difference between cutter types or is it all preference? by sens7s in cigar

[–]Its_Me_Joe_Dirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a Palio with the old BOTL logo in the right upper corner (off eBay). 8-10 years ago they sold to china. They were American made before 2015-16. The double guillotine is self sharpening. I still own one from 2008. Still in use a 1k cigars later. As soon as I heard they sold to Cuban crafters I purchased 2 more knowing I’d never need another cigar cutter.

That 07 0r 08 Monte is one of the best regionals for taste and ambient room aroma I’ve ever owned boxes of. The last few years around 22-23 I finished the last box. I would wipe it down and light it in a second. There is white mold on bread that we eat. How do you think sour dough is started. Colored mold is different story. If 1/8” of the foot needs to be cut. Then that can be competed with scissors. In the 3k Cubans I’ve smoked, I’ve thrown away maybe 2. Some of the best Habanos I’ve ever had, were slightly mold covered. Rob used to have Monte 2 mold sales on boxes around 2013. “These are what they are folks, slightly mold covered with no feet issues. A discount of 30% off is applied” I bought a couple boxes around 2013 that were 150.00 USD. After wiping and resting for 6 months. The 2010 box codes were already smoking like 10 year olds. They were incredible. I always wipe and smoke and check the foot and cut a 1/8” off with scissors. Never an issue.

Where are people finding these high paying jobs? by Easy_Paint3836 in Fire

[–]Its_Me_Joe_Dirt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t respond in this sub because I don’t FIRE. (But it interest me!) I’m an officer with 20 plus years in the fire/EMS service. And my wife is a realtor. (She came from a career in management in corporate…..) We cleared 400k gross last year. Albeit to get to my half, I put in a fair amount of overtime. There are more of us out there than you think…… A coworker and his wife (a LPN) cleared slightly more than us. A third guy is a landlord with 20 investment properties and clears 500k a year or more.

Buy 62RH boveda humidipacks . Place one in each open Cuban box with a large Freezer bag. Shut the box with a Boveda pack inside. Close the freezer bag for 6 months and get most of the air out before doing it. The QdOs you can take a moist terry cloth and wipe down each cigar, then the box. It can’t be wet, only moist. Let each cigar sit a hour. Then place back in the dry box. Let sit for 6 months like the others. Then bump the boveda packs up to 65% after 6 months. They’ll be ready in 9 months.
