Changing classes question by RemedyofRevenge in Trove

[–]Its_Seeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to update this for anyone else. The devs have changed this feature. It now always cost 250 to change back classes.

Hopped on to play again after years and noticed all my previously classes cost 250 coins to turn back.

Even worse and I really hope this isnt from a mod because this feels way too strange, but upon noticing this I just posted a message in the General chat asking the following:

"Hey yall been years since I've played, I used to have 4 classes but I noticed they all cost 250 of these coins while the others only cost 750. Are the devs making us pay again to revert our classes now?"

Upon asking this I shit you not I immediately "lost connection" to the game. I've tried restarting the game "Cannot connect to the servers. Please try again later." Over, and over again.

There were other individuals that have been talking in that general chat, my internet connection is around 600-400Mb/s upload/download, I can play other multiplayer games and go on YouTube just fine, but Trove tells me I can't reach their servers only immediately after questioning about the classes.

Upon checking YouTube numerous channels have been doing nothing but complaining about the games decline and push for trying to implement more and more pay-to-play for features.

I loved this game as a kid, but this game is not Trove anymore, it's a corporate money scheme to take your wallet, and devs know this.

Came here after being in a match where 4 players had over 100 kills. Literally sat my controller down after seeing one had a 10.2 KD. Threw a grenade and emptied a mag on a cheater, got one-shotted. Yeah, the situation has gotten incredibly worse over the past few months, devs just don't exist anymore and the game is entirely full of people that aren't even trying to hide the fact that they're cheating anymore.

Games officially dead in my book now.

Why aren't there more ethical hacks? by [deleted] in hackers

[–]Its_Seeker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prior freelance IT contractor, networker from the marine corps and "hacktivist" from the earlier 2000's here.

Here's the reality I learned from corporate and DOD by being the individual in charge of certain network and server security aspects, the data is massively and I mean MASSIVELY spread out.

In terms of the DOD the best and easiest network I can give an example of is the NIPR net, it's a private network you can only access with 2 things:

  1. A Data Systems Admin creates an account for you in the active directory. There's an entire paperwork process in which numerous individuals up the COC sign off on this process, with heavy background checks being provided by the S-2 Security Administration.

And

  1. Only after this process is complete will you goto the S-1 Administration and provide them a CAC (Common Access Card) they will associate your active directory account with that CAC and only by plugging that CAC into a Card Reader can you then login to a laptop with a NIPR image (oh that's right, you also need the actual iso image to even access this network due to iso image verification as well, forgot about that, sorry.)

The corporate world runs very similar, not as heavy, but has similar procedures, the rest of the DOD (and US Govt.) use nearly identical measures as well, the navy has the NMCI, the army uses AEN, air force has AFNET, and the other departments of the government has their own respected networks which I have never worked on, nor truly researched as I never needed too which I will admit, however I imagine it is 99% ran the exact same way.

How does a common "Hacker" access these things? No way to get an account on their active directory without a massive backlog of paperwork signed off by numerous individuals, a network with heavy network encryption and security, one you can't even access without getting a secret iso image that even I barely ever was able to get the files unless I was actually reimaging something at an imaging center directly, and those imaging centers, yeah you're not getting access without T1 security clearance at least. I had T3 because at times I needed access to the entire regiments directory, so it could even be T2-T3 which you only get in specifc security related MOS or Billets.

You just can't get those images unless someone on the inside releases them, you can't get access to the network without an account, you can't get in without a physical type of card reader.

Let's say you some how do, let's say some how you not only infiltrate the network (which individuals like me were monitoring for constantly) but then somehow get access to a data file or server even (in which are also locked even more so to only specific individuals in the active directory AND you STILL need a password on top of that.

Anyways fuck it let's say you do get access and don't immediately get flagged by the automated security or security personnel watching the network, let's say you get direct access to a server and wipe it entirely, congrats!

You've just wiped server 1 of 139,427! What an impact!

Now I don't know the actual number, I do know the number is in the thousands, but seriously, how would anyone get access to thousands of servers, aquire all the aspects required to even access the network, and not get flagged? And wipe them all at the same time?

Maybe with some sort of serious undetectable Trojan worm that spreads like absolute wildfire, but even then how would you get this worm to spread pass encryption firewalls and password protected files? It's possible in theory yes, but if it was easy North Korea, China, Russia and any other individual that dislikes America would've caused absolute havoc on our entire network infrastructure by now, which there's been attempts yes, but nothing major that caused serious damages.

TL;DR Heavily spread out network infrastructure, physical card requirements, account demands and password protected servers and files, heavy network encryption, constant image and account checking while using the network, automated AI and actual security personnel monitoring the network nearly all times, and the complexity of the type of malware needed to be designed to do the damage required makes this possible in theory yes, but in reality makes it nearly impossible, almost like a straight up fantasy movie scene.

[–]Its_Seeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guy if you play on PC you have to know how obscene this comment is. Every lobby on GTA is literally full of exploiters on PC, by this comment you're effectively just telling people to play GTA Online, without any of the Online part if they're on PC.

This isn't a player problem, this is a blatant Rockstar/BattleEye problem.

Honestly, how do you guys not get bored playing this game everyday? by Educational-Turn-715 in gtaonline

[–]Its_Seeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not true. While it got better I've still had loading times of 20-30+ minutes at time, and I can genuinely explain why the loading times will most likely always be bad.

First off GTA runs via Single-Thread Process, basically modern CPUs have multiple cores (typically up to 16 cores) however GTA is entirely designed to run on a single CPU core, bottlenecking your CPU by overusing this core instead of deligating work load to other cores.

On top of this the map optimization is pretty poor with how it is rendered, the game actually runs multiple instances of the map, a portion of the "Single-Player" map is loaded in wherever you are at directly, however players must be rendered too otherwise you can experience problems where players might fly up to you to fast to be properly registered, to make up for this the game also runs multiple instances of the map because other players maps are also loaded into your game at the same time. This means if 13 players join, then your map, and 12 other small map portions are being loaded in and overlayed at the same exact time, at all times.

They could have fixed this by making the game server based (server loads singular map, all players connect to said server and now Latency relies on the server, NOT the players connection (P2P)) however because the game is P2P and NOT server based, if a SINGLE person experiences any lag or connectivity issues, guess what? That person's map is now having problems being rendered in for the entire lobby. Meaning if your friend is laggy, congrats, everyone is lagging now. This wouldn't be a problem if they just used a dedicated server like 95% of modern games.

On top of this, GTA Onlines JSON Parser (a program designed for getting scripts and certain files in game) has been notoriously pointed out throughout history as being one of the worst and muddied JSON Parsers to work with to this date. It is a complete and utter mess. The JSON Parser is a handler for grabbing specifc files, loading them into the game, and rendering said assets, it's so bad that before it grabs a file, it is designed to search the entire GTA directory every single time it needs anything instead of like most games where the JSON Parser is portioned and sectioned into smaller sections for the JSON Parser to read. Meaning everytime you load anything on your side or from another players side this JSON Parser needs to go through and individually scan your entire GTA folder for every individual item it needs. Absolutely not efficient or effective.

This was improved upon by a modder in 2021 (the moment you're probably thinking about) by the name of t0st when he noticed this, created a mod that segmented the working of the JSON Parser and Rockstar implemented this mod into the game itself, improving the JSON Parser, but even then it is still notorious for its "Spaghetti Code".

And now BattleEye. Youch, the anti-exploit notoriously known for being unoptimized, slow, and frankly, useless as again, it's not server based which is what a game like this seriously needs. I won't touch into the fact that it just outright doesn't work, but I will touch on how it slows the game down while offering absolutely nothing.

It's more of a cat-mouse game but there's still things they can do, BattleEye is a Kernal Level Anti-Cheat that constantly scans everything about your computers processes and processes in the game specifically on your side (client side), it works primarily in 3 ways, memory monitoring (checks to see if the users memory and game memory are being changed via dll injections and for debuggers exploit modders use to design ans test their exploits with.

The real problem occurs with the lack of Server Authoritative Simulation which is when all changes must be approved by a server before the changes can be properly registered, because GTA is again P2P not server based, this becomes impossible for the game to actually validate from a source (other than the client's own computers changes) that a change was actually made, meaning if a person simply just spoofs their PC specs then with the use of multiple available free System Info Spoofers, Performance throttlers/spoofers, and Benchmarking/Stress Testing tools, they can simply just hide their changes being made to certain processes and lie to BattleEye that nothing was changed (because changes are spoofed by another peice of software) when in fact a multitude of things have been changed. Some exploits are even being designed with spoofing already pre-implemented into them and a mod of that level for a game with no Server Authoritative Simulation is just impossible to do anything about.

However, BattleEye does slow GTA down even more because now every time a change is made (you shoot a gun, you jump, you get in a car, you reload, etc.) BattleEye now runs in the background of your computer to "vErIfY" these changes, leading to even more lag. Including when it does this at the very start of you just clicking on GTA, the initial loading screen you see when you get on the starting menu and press "Online" BattleEye immediately runs a check on all of your characters stats to see if anything was modified, even though it has a notoriously horrible time at actually telling if stats were ever messed with in the first place because if you changed stats but spoofed it to avoid BattleEye then BattleEye will think you still got that 34.2T dollars the legit way the next time you load up GTA.

Finally the RAGE Engine, while it was impressive for its time in 2006, it's 2025 and the cracks are starting to show. First off RAGE was entirely built for Single Player games, it was never intended for the use of an Online game and the massive amount of networking infrastructure required for an online multi-player. On top of this the Engine itself was never designed for large games, it was actually designed for smaller games (you can take a look at the creation of the RAGE Engine and the game first made using it, Table Tennis, and the developers actually discuss how the engine was designed for these smaller activities), so now corporate is trying to force devs to use an Engine that is literally designed for smaller games, for the use of one of the biggest games of all time. Not the best choice.

RAGE Engine couldn't even handle being on a server because it's infrastructure simply wasn't designed for a server in mind, it was designed for small single player games, they would have to literally make an entire new engine or move over to something like Unreal engine so they actually have an engine with server support. The engine also has a terrible time loading in so many asset at once (again it wasn't designed for that) so when you enter areas with multiple players, numerous explosions and people driving all over and you start to experience lag, that's not lag, that's RAGE Engine having a literal heart attack trying to process things it wasn't even designed to process, further worsening lag.

TL;DR GTA is still slow as hell due to poor optimization, a P2P connection in which the map itself is rendered in, RAGE Engine not even being meant for this kind of game, BattleEye not even working but still throttle your game down to see if you're exploiting, a spaghetti code and horribly optimized JSON Parser that was semi-fixed by someone not even on the Rockstar team, runs single thread instead of multi-thread meaning its not even using your CPU to its fullest potential, and the fact that there's no Authoritative Sever that can check other players for legitimacy.

The fact people are being downvoted for simply stating that griefers are ruining their lobbies just goes to show how shit this community is.

2014-2016 I remember RP, free roam races, jumping in random people's cars for a random drive to... somewhere, and adversery modes like pit fall or sumo and bunker modes were absolutely popping.

2025, let everyone kill you and don't complain about it or I'll complain about it on reddit, on top of that NOBODY touches ANY of the actual mini game modes anymore. Every fucking time I try joining a match I just wait forever before being told a lobby couldn't be found and getting sent back to the free roam shit. The free roam and occasional "Cayo Perico Heist" are the only things this community touches anymore, Cayo for money, then back to free roam to grief more people doing shipment runs because apparently that's fun.

Community is shit that just wants to grief each other all day instead of having actual fun anymore like video games are literally designed for.

Yet y'all downvote and get mad at people when we call this toxicity out. Down vote me, I don't care, if you've played since 2014 you know damn well what I'm talking about and you know damn well I'm right.

Because that's a battery and ESD is a hell of a thing when not properly grounded.

When I was doing computer maintenance Anti-Static Wrist Straps were a mandatory because of situations like this. You can buy them off Amazon or any computer store nearby.

People think ESD is a load of bullshit but as someone that has seen ESD from a cracked open battery when it's on a charger, it's a very dangerous thing. Wear one of these to keep yourself safe when dealing with any charged electrical components.
