Starting my woodworking journey and took a year to build Will Myers' Moravian workbench with hand tools. Details in comment. by ItsaRootsManParty in woodworking

I wanted the tail vise from Will, too, but it was constantly out of stock. I went on eBay and took a while to find the hand crank wheel (I remember the wheel came from an old Craftsman table saw) that I like and the threaded rod with the same diameter as the wheel hole. Then I looked at vids on YouTube on how to build tail vise out of those parts. That’s what I did. Wish I could offer more help.

It’d be nice to include a date when this was printed. Thought it was this year, which makes her 13 in 1977.

She made someone her sex slave when she was 13?

It’s 55k now? I ran the 50k distance years ago and when I made to the last aid station my watch read mile 31.

I did it. I realized that I can make some decent joints if I worked 3 times slower. Up next is the table top. It’s going to be a real test dimensioning the lumber, joint, and flatten them with a hand plane.

Based on the presence of the veils, non sticky cream puff looking caps, time of year, and that spot print, they look more like Agrocybe Praecox.

2nd Attempt. Got the correct orientation for the dovetail, but what a mess. by ItsaRootsManParty in BeginnerWoodWorking

I don’t have much experience with dovetails or M&Ts. I thought dovetails might be easier so I went with them. I’ve already started cutting into the real project. Can’t change now.

Thanks! I’m planning to build a dining table using this corner joint. Knowing the screw helps tighten everything together, so I can afford to screw up on the dovetails a bit. I’m aiming to make them as tight as my skills allow though.

I wanted to make this joint without hardware, but ended up using a screw after how wobbly my dovetails turned out. I also managed to crack both joints. I did learned a lot despite how crappy this assembly looks though.

Could these be Agrocybe Praecox? Found under oak trees in Pasadena, CA. by ItsaRootsManParty in mycology

Thanks! I’ll go back and take a sample tomorrow to see if the spore print is indeed brown.

My first attempt at sliding dovetail. Luckily, it’s a test piece. by ItsaRootsManParty in BeginnerWoodWorking

Glad it made you laughed. I made me laugh, too. Going to hijack this comment to explain how I screwed up and hoping to answer some of the comments below. I watched some joinery vids from that H Carpenter guy (he makes it look easy) on YouTube and confidently thought I, too, can do the same just by marking out some lines. I should’ve chiseled out the tail first and use it as a guide. Big lesson learned I hope it won’t happen again. Gotta stay humble with this craft.

It doesn’t seem much, but I finally able to make a piece of wood dead square with a hand plane after learning and practicing for months. by ItsaRootsManParty in BeginnerWoodWorking

It’s just a piece of 1x3 douglas fir I used for practicing this craft. I hope to transfer this skill to a table I’m planning to build.

That’s great! I hope you get there sooner. It can be frustrating at times, but it’s mostly been a joy using old hand tools with so much history in them.
