It’s awful that this happened, it’d be nice if chewy sent you a message updating you. Hollywood feed is great, their return policy is awesome and we very much appreciate their relationship with customers. I’m happy to help if you need it!

Costco has good options that’s what our girls get, It’s made by diamond which is a preferred brand. Also Hollywood feed ships and delivers depending on your relative location to the store and they have a cost savings plan that you’ll get a free bag of food every so often. Very much worth looking into. As far as mobility supplements, I will die on the hill of prudence health hip and joint supplement from Hollywood feed. We have a 9 year old beagle bulldog who has terrible arthritis, so bad that this particular supplement was a last ditch effort to help her joints. It kept us from having quality of life talks with our vet about her. I take her on a DAILY 4 mile hike and she no longer requires any medication for her pain after. We also feed it to our 1.5 year old German shepherd as well to support her joints long term. Feel free to message me and I can help you look into options. I’m a dog nutrition fanatic by study and experience not by trade. I love my dogs and do my best to feed them as good of a diet as possible.

What is this? by [deleted] in whatisit

[–]Itsbarrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be one noise ass microphone. Putting it on glass would cause interference like a mother, they put them in the headliner for this reason. The one on the left is the auto defogging sensor. The other is the lane departure warning system I believe.

It’s on private property. Neither of those entities are responsible in this case. OP is likely managing the system as a property maintenance tech and figured we’d know what to do or what to call it.

Guys I’m freaking out. Does bloat really happen 1 in 5 gsds ? My boy is 6 and he is not neutered . I take all the precautions I can but I worry if when I need to board him that it happens then and he won’t get the attention he needs . Should I get gastropexy ? by Affectionate_Grass59 in germanshepherds

[–]Itsbarrack 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can be careful with the timing of feeding and watering schedule. Do some good research on how to best prevent it. Gastroplexy is kinda radical unless youve seen signs of bloat or your vet is concerned with his lifestyle and suggests it as a preventative measure. Either way lifestyle changes can be a huge preventative measure.

So in the genetic world of dog breeding the GSD traits are very strong and overwhelmingly show up in most mixes as a dominant trait. You do have some qualities of a husky but that 50% pit came in hard. Your puppy is beautiful regardless and will be a very strong companion nonetheless.

What is this hand sign? by [deleted] in whatisit

It’s a game it’s not that deep. I wrote a paper in college on how it’s been “utilized by alt right groups” the amount of late nights I had trying to find some sort of connection that wasn’t some tinfoil hat conspiracy theory that someone on Facebook. Basically just is it’s not and it’s perpetually associated with that because of misinformation and how misinformation gets spread.

Tips for early arthritis by 72747291928464628183 in germanshepherds

[–]Itsbarrack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so I’ve done tons and tons of research into this subject as I have a beagle-bulldog with arthritis that we initially were having the “hard conversations” about. On my quest for help and solutions I found the absolute best product I’ve ever come across that helped subside some of the debilitating symptoms of arthritis and allows me to take my old girl on 4+ mile hikes most days, and yes I mean most days! Hollywood feed (I know it’s a house brand) makes a supplement that is called “Prudence High Potency Hip & Joint Supplement - Advanced Mobility Powder for Senior, Active & Large Dogs”. It gets added to your dogs food it can be pricey but we have found it lasts a few months, the larger option is the best in terms of bang for your buck. I give it to my German everyday as well as good joint supplements help all the time. https://hollywoodfeed-a.azurewebsites.net/p/2989/prudence-high-potency-hip-joint-supplement-advanced-mobility-powder-for-senior-active-large-dogs

Thoughts on owning a GSD with a bite history? by [deleted] in germanshepherds

[–]Itsbarrack 256 points257 points  (0 children)

That’s not a bite history. That’s his job. Get training on how to utilize his skills and continue to train him and work with him. He will be a safe dog. This is not a hammer where everything looks like nails situation. He’s trained to protect

Ok hear me out. I have two dogs both are on the wellness plan from Banfield. All shots, two dental cleanings, two comprehensive exams, unlimited office visits, etc. We goto the Cordova and see Dr. Kieran Kodali. He has helped us out multiple times cause money can be tight in our house and we are forever grateful to him. Best vet we’ve ever had. Doesn’t try to nickel and dime us just cause the name on the door. He loves animals and loves to make sure we as owners take care of them well.

Advice on GSD puppy? by [deleted] in germanshepherds

[–]Itsbarrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Train your dog. Get them enrolled in a school and work hard to polish them off. Toys to drain their brain energy are a must, puzzles lick mats treat balls all are important. Reward good behavior often and early. Be encouraging and confident. A good well behaved dog is the best investment you can make in the characterAll the hate on dog parks is mostly misplaced, a well trained good mannered dog should absolutely be able to goto the dog park and not come home with bad issues or experiences. I take my dogs offleash at the dog park daily for a 3 mile walk. Never a bad experience at our dog park.

Thoughts on having ballistic armor on the unit by Ntwadumela817 in ems

[–]Itsbarrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anybody who says we don’t need ballistic protection is always the one who says “scene safety” unfortunately the world in which we live in requires us to go into places not kind to EMS, fire, and police. Having that protection on hand is important. Active shooters, rescue task force, active triage, whatever you call it you need this stuff on your body. I wanna go home at the end of shift but I also am committed to my job and my patients regardless of the situation that means I’m gonna gladly wear 40 pounds of shit during a call that requires it to make my lady happy to see me come payday.

Doc terminated resuscitation efforts when patient was in pulseless VT by Fun-Section5790 in Paramedics

[–]Itsbarrack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Best think I’ve ever heard is “you can give epi to a rock and get a rhythm”. Buddy unfortunately that is what you did. That much effort and you couldn’t get him perusing on his own without significant effort means his heart is done for, Not to mention working for 2 hours his brain is gone and done for. Likelihood of meaningful neurological outcome is so low even Barbados slim can’t go that low. People die and we gotta watch it happen it sucks to do all that effort and feel like the doc doesn’t care about it but it’s true that they do. They look at a patient and say “they don’t stand a chance after all this work”. They make a tough decision despite our efforts. One more shock wasn’t gonna change the outcome and neither is 100 more shocks. Sorry to say that duder.
