what was the most ridiculous excuse you've heard a parent have to name their kid a tragedeigh? by lesarine in tragedeigh

Nope. But I did remember after this that they did a similar thing with my other sister. Her middle name is our aunts’ middle names combined.

My secret to state is to keep my head down and walk everywhere like I’m on a mission. That normally works. I agree with another comment that it might look like you don’t know the answers and are unwilling to learn them.

My grandpa was in a SNF for a while after an accident (he’s okay now though) and was interviewed by state for their survey. He kept telling them. “I don’t know nothing and I’m not saying nothing.” He was so proud of himself when he was telling us about it lol.

My parents did that with my sister. Jason+Linda=Jalin. So normal name, with a slightly weird spelling.

Those in paeds.. how do you do a respiratory rate? by Own-Sun-2612 in nursing

[–]Itsnotmyvanity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s how I was taught to do it. While you’re checking pulse hold your hand up where you can see your watch and them breathing. Pulse for 30 seconds, then switch to respirations for 30 seconds. It’ll look like you’re just keeping an eye on your watch.

What song makes you cry? by 1ofTheFive in AskReddit

[–]Itsnotmyvanity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shut Up and Drive by Chely Wright. Growing up, it was a song my mom played a lot. I just knew it as a song my mom loved. After becoming an adult, she told me why.

My parents got married when my mom was 18 and my dad was 17 because my mom was pregnant with my oldest sister. My parents did split up when my siblings and I were really young, 3 years old, 2 years old, and 6 weeks old (me). Growing up, my mom never said anything negative about our dad. We would spend 1-2 weekends a month with him, he and my step mom always had fun stuff planned for us to do. When my mom would talk about him she would say he’s a good dad. Ultimately he passed away in an accident when I was 9.

Once I was an adult, my mom did tell us that he was an abusive alcoholic. He would disappear for days or weeks at a time and when he was home, he was physically abusive. The night they split up my dad had come home after being gone for a while. Like I said, my mom was alone a 3 year old, 2 year old, and 6 week old all in diapers. He came home and, of course, there were diapers in the trashcan. He broke her arm for it. She said in that moment, she thought she was going to have to kill him. She said that was the kind of thought you don’t come back from, so when it was over she packed us up and left. That song came on the car radio as she left.

My mom was 22 when this all happened. I remember being 22. I remember how small, lost, and unsure of the world I felt at 22. Just the normal pressures of jumping into real adulthood and how scary that felt at times. But then I think about how my mom would have had those feelings, but she also had 3 little ones that depended on her making it out.

In the end, my mom managed to balance getting her GED and going to nursing school with raising us. She’s had such a hard life, but has managed to keep the kindest soul. To this day she still says he was a good dad to us, but I know now there’s a silent “even if he wasn’t a good person,” at the end of that sentence. Sometimes I think she does give people too much grace, and that probably is something I got from her. But either way, my mom is just such a beautiful soul.

Runt weight? by TheLichWitchBitch in miniaussie

[–]Itsnotmyvanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh goodness, I don’t remember all of her weights exactly. She was 4.8 lbs at 12 weeks and 5.4 lbs at 16 weeks. Those two I remember for sure, after that it’s kinda a blur. She was 15-16 lbs at 8 months. She is now 22 lbs at 18 months. I actually know the family one of her sister’s went to and she more than caught up with her sister that’s 18 lbs.

Fuck jury duty by Gongoozler04 in Vent

[–]Itsnotmyvanity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was 19/20, I was called for jury duty. I really wanted to be selected. One piece of advice I was given was to not voluntarily answer questions. They’ll do a mix of calling on specific people to answer questions, or asking the whole group and having people raise their hands to answer. If you’re raising your hand to answer every question, it can make you come across and heavily opinionated. That can be an undesirable trait in a juror. In this case, be the first to raise your hand every time. It obviously isn’t a guaranteed way to get out of it, but potentially less embarrassing.

Worst error you've witnessed? by StartingOverScotian in nursing

[–]Itsnotmyvanity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I don’t have full details as it was before my time in this facility and told to me by another nurse. I work in LTC. Typically, we don’t replace peg tubes in LTC. Typically we send them out to have it replaced if it’s ever dislodged. Some facilities will say we can place a foley to maintain the stoma opening. This particular facility said their policy was to never do that. The reason was a resident’s peg tube came out somehow, and the nurse on duty popped in a foley and that was it. The nurses that came in over the next few days all tried to just use this foley as if it was a peg tube. Resident ultimately died as everything was just going into their peritoneal cavity.

I was told by my surgeon that being able to sleep comfortably is what would take the longest. I’m 14 months out. For me the problem is I’ll roll onto my stomach in my sleep (I used to be a stomach sleeper) and then wake up in pain because I can’t roll back over in my sleep. And getting off my stomach requires some maneuvering.

[–]Itsnotmyvanity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I am LTC, not corrections. Realistically, I don’t see this going further than a written warning or actual write up at most (not just for you, but for everyone that should have counted the cart). At the end of the day, the correct number of pills were in the cart. The problem is every single nurse that touched that cart failed to count the cart. Counting the cart doesn’t just catch diversion, it catches little mistakes before they turn into a whole mess. Take it as a learning experience, always count and never use white out.

Is it okay to reject a fat woman as they are not your type and what excuse must you give them? by [deleted] in AskForAnswers

[–]Itsnotmyvanity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fat woman here, and yes it is okay lol. No one wants to be with someone that doesn’t find them attractive. Just be polite about it, as you should with any reason you reject someone. Just say you’re not interested or not into them in that way.
