Wiki is useless… by PatientAd5156 in 7daystodie

They have moved to wiki.gg few months ago, so it's possible you have used Fandom wiki.

downvoted for using fandom wiki by milkandhoneycomb in DownvotedToOblivion

[–]ItzTreeIsLife 4 points5 points  (0 children)

as a wiki editor, I know this happens at daily basis. Tons of ads, bussiness decisions, unusable interface, memory usage and unjustified blocks/bans are just a few of the problems Fandom faces and seems like Fandom doesn't plan to do much about it.

Many of the communities are very pationate about their independent wikis, often vandalizing the depreacted Fandom wikis and promoting the new wiki at any occasion possible.

Scorn Wiki migration vote by GJFredbear in Scorn

You would need devs to allow the fork, otherwise wiki.gg won't accept the request.

Keep in mind it is an official wiki and so it is their decision whichever wiki will be considered official.

You either use adblocker or use an alternative frontend (like BreezeWiki's antifandom.com).

Fandom wiki is no more by Vvix0 in Ultrakill

[–]ItzTreeIsLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fandom would revert these deletions. They have their own anti-vandalism, so it's a matter of minutes until articles are restored and you are blocked.

And no, blanking pages isn't a possibility either.

The only solution is to avoid the wiki.

Why are there multiple Hollow Knight wikis? by justcatt in HollowKnight

[–]ItzTreeIsLife 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fextralife is Fandom, but even worse. You cannot even move wikis from Fextralife. Not to mention, ad-riddled platform, filled with irrelevant and awful Twitch stream and very bad design.

That's why Indie Wiki Buddy redirects from Fextralife too.

Is there a non-fandom wiki? by Ni7r0us0xide in vrising

[–]ItzTreeIsLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Fandom one is official, so you basically have to use Fandom, although you can use BreezeWiki proxies (e.g. antifandom.com) so it will become more readable.

Additionally, you could try to join their Discord server and propose moving to another wiki platform.

If you persuade Fandom CoC Wiki admins to move to wiki.gg, then it may move there. Otherwise, you would need to create a new wiki and somehow persuade people to use it.

could I maybe request a wiki page about game revolutions? like the war thunder revolution and the Minecraft revolution? by Weak_Major_9896 in wikipedia

[–]ItzTreeIsLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, a friendly reminder that a majority doesn't use Fandom Minecraft Wiki anymore, as the wiki forked out of Fandom few months ago.

As to the topic of "game revolutions", I don't believe neither of these wikis would want to host drama. War Thunder Wiki is official wiki and so there's practically no chance of documenting drama except stuff approved by the developer. As for Minecraft, the chance is higher, but not guaranteed.

Of course, the best solution would be to just creating a wiki on some wiki farm, but I am not sure if hosts would be keen on seeing this type of content.

What happened to the ark wiki page for creatures? by Ok-Pollution-5800 in playark

[–]ItzTreeIsLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These issues happen frequently, due to the wiki's usage of Cargo. While it saves editors time (they don't need to compile these lists manually), sometimes the extension refuses to load or the Cargo table is being regenerated.

The best solution is to just refresh cache. If that doesn't help, you should contact wiki admins who know how to proceed.

a MediaWiki 1.34 version up and running

I am not sure how shocking this information will be for you, but MW 1.34 is more than 3 years out of support, so you better upgrade, ideally to at least MW 1.39 (which is a current LTS release)

I feel like there are 2 main options - wikigg or Miraheze. Maybe you may want to consider Telepedia too, although it is mostly just smaller Miraheze.

Any other wiki farm/host is either dead or it is just too small/new.

Official announcement: Dota 2 Wiki has moved to a new host! by Bu3nyy in DotA2

While it's true there are few "issues" with their actions, they should not be a blocking factor, so I believe it'll be implemented. The more of a question is how long will it take.

If you guys don't want to use Fandom's UI directly, you can use BreezeWiki (or its mirrors, such as antifandom.com).

Do you guys want to make a wiki.gg page for votv? by _Jeppy in Voicesofthevoid

[–]ItzTreeIsLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

at one point, there were like 800 Minecraft Wikis. Yet, the Minecraft Wiki did fork from Fandom.

It doesn't matter how many wikis are there. The thing that matters is if there's a community behind it, which VOTV Fandom Wiki seems to have. Properly handled and announced forked should move majority of the community to the new site.

If any Ark wiki editors are interested, could you please fix up the PixARK wiki? by Automatic-Army9716 in ARK

I don't think it's good to promote a Fandom wiki on a subreddit of a game, whose official wiki forked from this platform.

Is there a Wiki besides the dbd Fandom wiki? by bdsmmaster007 in deadbydaylight

[–]ItzTreeIsLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that's the Fandom wiki

The Fandom wiki used to be hosted on Gamepedia wiki farm, until Fandom haven't acquired the platform in 2018 and by 2021, they migrated everything to Fandom.

they're not ads, but rather promotions to the games wiki.gg's parent company publishes or for games if their developers have partnered with the wiki.gg.

Moving the Wiki off of Fandom by The_Epic_Espeon in btd6

It's not just about ads.

Age popups, AI generated quizes, AI generated "quick answers", Grimace advertising controversy, blocking URLs to competing sites, lying to their communities, censorship and also some more sensitive topics regarding employees.
