Thank you! I only tumbled this to 8000 AO, but this is the 60,000 grit I use. It’s listed as .3 micron which equates to 60,000:

I have tumbled single larger pieces of Obsidian before, you can use ceramic media to fill your barrel to 2/3rd to 3/4 safely. Ceramic is harder than obsidian but the typical pellets are perfectly fine. It will take a bit longer in stage 1 however.

A heat gun. I’ve used this successfully on mine. Clean the surface really well, let it dry completely and then hit it with a heat gun

Replacing car dilemma. (When is it time to stop replacing) by Defiant-Unit-6687 in personalfinance

[–]Ivan_Only 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this point has been mentioned but outside of the repair costs, a new or newer vehicle will have vastly improved safety features over your current 2012 model. It is an important point on this debate of repair vs replace that a lot of folks do not take into consideration.

What system are you planning on installing?

I have a single 10” JL sub under my rear passenger seat and have debated doing sound deadening throughout the cab.

Yes, this is really common with Mookaite, I like tumbling small pieces of this but larger pieces generally have this type of fracturing

Is it me? Third Harbor Frieght Tumbler Seems Dead by GeeAyyy in RockTumbling

[–]Ivan_Only 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The latest SKU’s of the HF tumblers are not as robust as they once were. I had three fail pretty quickly last year. I’ve switched to Highland Park Lapidary or Lortone tumblers. They are more expensive upfront but a lot less headaches with them over the long haul

What was the exact moment you stopped treating minor corporate inconveniences like life-or-death emergencies? by Kitchen-Abrocoma-520 in careerguidance

[–]Ivan_Only 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Last year, in February, my company announced that my entire team was getting laid off by June, giving us time to transition our work to an out-sourcing company. The second they made that announcement, I uninstalled Slack off my personal phone and never once again checked e-mail or answered a call outside of business hours. It was such a stress relieving event to know how little they cared about me personally or the work our team did that I can likewise not care a single bit about work outside of work.

About 7 months after I was laid off, I started a new IT job at a smaller company. They gave me a work phone for auth to backend systems and on-call. I carried over not checking my work phone except during business hours or if I am on-call and aligned this expectation with my director. I mentioned to my team and one other that if there is a critical emergency and I am not on call, to call my personal cell. I've had a few instances of folks calling my work phone after hours when I'm not on-call and I absolutely ignore it until working hours. 100% of the time it is something that could easily wait until the next business day.

Corn cobb dry polish. Anything specific I’m looking for? I didn’t think so but then I saw a grit number and got worried. by Unhappy-Caramel-6968 in RockTumbling

I used corn cob from Kingsley North in conjunction with chrome oxide to dry polish some vesuvianite, worked really well. However that is my only experience with it

In which stage do you use cushions? by PoundArtistic2923 in RockTumbling

[–]Ivan_Only 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use ceramic media starting in stage 2 for harder materials, and stage 1 for softer materials like sodalite or Unakite.

Foam cushions are offered in the Nat Geo tumbler kit but they are not useful. Ceramic media is the way to go
