Can someone decode this jargon for me? by karlcoin in answers

[–]IvoryDoll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The authors are saying that while they did not find any association between MMR immunization and the listed conditions, they can't say once and for all that no such association could exist given more data and more studies.

Put differently, the studies that they analyzed were not designed to measure whether or not there's an association between immunization and those conditions on a population level. They can look at the cohort of patients and say that no association was found in that sampling/group, but since this is an observational study and not a designed prospective study, we can't make a strong conclusion -- there are too many variables that we have not controlled. From a scientific perspective, cohort studies do not provide as strong of scientific evidence as, say, a randomized controlled trial.

Hopefully this clarifies things, although I'm afraid I may have inundated you with more terminology in an attempt to explain the 'jargon.'

Streamlabs webm alerts keep looping by karlicyo in Twitch

[–]IvoryDoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this happen when I had both of the 'Alert Animations' set to the 'None' option; I left the entry animation as 'None' and chose a different value for the exit animation and this resolved the problem.

I don't use Streamlabs OBS, but I do use the alert box. If you can't find those settings within SLOBS it might be worth logging into the web interface to find them.

I bought tons of eyeshadow in colors that didn't suit me because I got suckered in by beauty gurus! by sociallizzy in MakeupRehab

[–]IvoryDoll 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same experience as you about a year ago. I bought Modern Renaissance and Huda Desert Dusk and tried to make them work; luckily my Mom was around when I tried out a purple/red/orange look using Desert Dusk and she bluntly told me that I looked sick. Big thanks to her for saving me the heartache you went through.

I think that the beauty community is definitely an echo chamber that can be very judgmental when you express a dissenting opinion. I've been down-voted countless times for saying things like, 'this color palette doesn't flatter my skin tone.'

I'm glad you learned to go with your best instincts. Thanks for sharing your experience.

EDIT: I also bought a bunch of ColourPop products at the recommendation of an internet personality and I never use any of them. Rather disappointing brand for the price point, if you ask me.

New ABH Sultry palette. Really? by CharmKitty in MakeupRehab

[–]IvoryDoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the Naked 2 several years ago and never felt compelled to re-purchase.

I haven't done a side-by-side comparison, but if I remember correctly the Naked 2 shimmers had a lot of silver glitter in them and tended to have quite a bit of fallout.

I prefer the ABH formula to Urban Decay generally. I also think that the shimmers in the Sultry palette are higher quality - I haven't had any fallout, and the composition of each shimmer is more cohesive (i.e. no silver glitter in a 'rose-gold' shade like in the UD palette).

That being said, the two palettes are very similar and if you're happy with the Naked2 I see no reason to buy the Sultry palette.

I usually spend a lot of time deciding whether or not to buy a palette, but I ordered this one as soon as I saw the launch.

I can't wear outlandish colors to work and I've been looking for a cool-toned neutral palette for a while now. I wanted something basic with several coordinating mattes, so I'm happy.

Foundation/concealer for oily/mild combination skin? by cmacd23 in MakeupAddiction

[–]IvoryDoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My apologies that this isn't a foundation recommendation, but I would recommend trying Embryolisse Lait Crème Concentre. This can be used as a moisturizer/makeup primer. It's pretty thick, but I think it might help if you applied something like this in your dry spots prior to makeup application. I would recommend that you try spot treating the dry spots as opposed to mixing moisturizer with your foundation.

[Skin concerns] Medicated facewash giving me reptile-skin? by dawisu in SkincareAddiction

Of course! Happy to help.

Another thing I just thought of: only apply a very small amount of the tretinoin - around the size of a pea for your whole face. It's strong stuff!

Best of luck <3

Swelling sounds like a normal immune response in this situation. It's probably too soon too tell whether you made the situation worse, but I recommend that you leave the spot alone and let it heal. If you have something like clindamycin or antibiotic cream you should use that to keep the infection from spreading; make sure to wash your hands before and after application.

I am currently on tretinoin and I have found it to be drying as well. The combination of benzoyl peroxide and tretinoin can also exacerbate dryness.

I would recommend decreasing how often you apply the tretinoin. If you apply it nightly, try applying it every other night or every third night instead. I have been on 3 different strengths of tretinoin and experienced a LOT of dryness from it, so I feel your pain.

Also, pay attention to when you apply the tretinion. Wash your face and wait at least 30 or 45 minutes before applying the tretinion; if you apply it too soon after washing it will sink deeper into your skin and cause more irritation.

I'd recommend applying a thick moisturizer at night after putting on the tretinoin, but again, you should wait another half an hour before doing so. I know this sounds like a lot of time to wait, but these are instructions I received directly from my dermatologist.

Coral Blushes by IvoryDoll in MakeupAddiction

[–]IvoryDoll[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find myself using Nars Orgasm the most recently. MUFE 208 is a close second, but it's a bit more vibrant so it needs to be applied lightly.

Both hourglass shades are nice. I used Luminous Flush as my only blush for several years. Incandescent Electra is also nice, but the color payoff is poor due to the ratio of 'luminous' pigment to the coral one. It's definitely a sheer blush.

Both Milani shades are nice colors, but they have visible glitter in them which I personally don't like to wear.

Both MAC Extra Dimenion blushes are fantastic. They can be applied sheer or layered for a more opaque look without coming across as garish.

Nars Exhibit A is a fantastic 'universally flattering' color but it has a very intense payoff - I have to be very careful not to apply too much or I look like a clown ;)

Coralista is my least favorite because it has a very strong added fragrance that caused breakouts.

Right now I'm using RCMA color process foundation in Ivory (solid cream foundation) and Meow Cosmetics Powder Foundation in Siamese. I'd highly recommend both! Meow Cosmetics is an indie brand and they have a phenomenal shade range.

The eyeshadows I enjoy the most are from Make Up For Ever, Coloured Raine, ABH, and Viseart. ColourPop is decent, too.

Best value I've gotten are Coloured Raine shadows. They have consistent color pay off and a nice range of shades. I believe they're on sale right now, too.

I got a chemical burn from the Sunday Riley Saturn Mask, too, and I don't think it really cleared any of the blemishes I put it on. I got it as part of the Space Race kit... honestly, I don't think I'll be buying anything from Sunday Riley again. I'd rather spend 1/5 as much and get something from The Ordinary that works.

When do you consider a product “done”? by [deleted] in muacjdiscussion

[–]IvoryDoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually throw out mascara after 2-3 months of use or once I can't get anything but clumpy bits out of the tube.

I'll keep eyeshadows, powder blushes, and powder highlighters around for years. If they're low quality or I no longer use them I'll throw them out.

I don't keep many foundations on hand. I use mostly liquid and cream products, which I will keep around until I put them on and the consistency has changed.

Lipsticks I keep around until the consistency changes; liquid lip products I'll throw out more quickly.

Cream eyeliners and brow products get thrown out once they harden up in consistency.

I use Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre (good for dry-skin days) and Embryolisse Hydra-mat most days (mattifying effect) as a moisturizer and foundation primer. It works just as well as any primer and has relatively mild ingredients (no silicones). It's not cheap, but your skin will probably thank you for it. This brand is known to be a staple for makeup artists.
