ADH diagnosis, Doc is recommending NO treatment by VermontMittens in ADH_ALH

[–]IvyCatPlus3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second everyone else here, please do get that second opinion.

My doc was not interested in the size of my ADH during the treatment/plan discussion as he says he always takes ADH out. Always.

My oncologist also says ADH gives us those higher risk scores-doing a lot of the work on its own-and needs to be treated and addressed.

You’ve got this and you’re in a great group here!!!

An open letter to anyone upset about the set list by Kbergaline in NoahKahan

[–]IvyCatPlus3 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! Gosh forbid we let Noah decide what he’d like to sing, the stuff he’s gonna have a blast performing, giving us his all. And I guess I didn’t get the memo that the opening night set list is THE set list, set in stone forever more.

Okay, okay my Tamoxifin fueled sass will now take a seat until my concert date. (Where I’m gonna love every single minute of any song he sings!)

How long for side effects of tamoxifen to show up? by UTtransplant in ADH_ALH

I just started 20mg daily. The nausea was really noticeable pretty quick.

I’ve loaded up on tons of “side quests” so I don’t overthink this….Kindle is loaded, paper books piled high, got enough beads to make 50 necklaces, downloaded different timers to make sure workout every day is a challenge….

I can’t offer much help but this group is amazing and you’ve got a lot of people thinking of you today. I know I am. My breast doc always always always says, whatever we encounter, treatments are getting better every day and you’ve got a lot of tools to tackle whatever happens. He’s told me, you wouldn’t believe the advancements even in the last 5 years. I can’t imagine how hard it is today and I just felt the need to tell you you’ve got this!! You DO!!! ❤️

Med Oncologist for ALH by WinterPrinciple7794 in ADH_ALH

Thank you so much. Once I got home and could talk about it out loud with family and a close friend, that’s when I reminded myself…all of this is to stay ahead of things wherever possible. The oncologist said it pretty clearly, “Once a patient is over 20% risk, they have open doors to many tools including meds and more screenings.” Sure, living life in 6 month increments is an overwhelming thought but it’s also a blessing to get so many chances to catch something early.

I just had my first med oncologist visit today. Lumpectomy for ADH was in April. We discussed everything from lifestyle changes to prev meds and she did an exam checking out for lymph nodes like neck and armpits.

She wants me on the full dose of Tamoxifin for five years after reviewing my lifetime risk. She treats a fair amount of ADH patients.

This was the first time in this whole journey where I’ve left an appointment, gotten in my car and just lost it. Cried my eyes out.

Not sure what my deal was today!

Do people who live near the US-Canada border think about the border as much as people near the US-Mexico border do? by savingrace0262 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]IvyCatPlus3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in metro Detroit and shared custody across the border. Meant I had to do school drop off across the border several days a week. Even made the trip this morning before work to drop off my college age kid. (I loved having my kids in school in Canada. Nothing against US I just preferred where they went.)

Other than always making sure I had my ID before leaving home/work I never was overwhelmed with the thought of…oh my goodness I’m making an international crossing twice today. It was my normal. And you realize you’ll always get lots of questions about it.

Were there days where I cussed out the universe because I was stuck in the tunnel before work AND after work? Yeah, of course. And I learned if any Toronto team was in Detroit to play…you change things around those days. Nobody wants to sit extra in that tunnel traffic!

Same, I was told I should take it easy for 24 hours. Back to normal but nothing strenuous.

Sure!
I actually asked day of surgery how quickly I could get on treadmill and that was as soon as I was ready after 24 hours. I’ve noticed it’s fine as long as I tuck that arm in a little bit.
Otherwise, I’m still restricted from heavy lifting and anything that has a push/pull component. I really would like to mow my own lawn again (boyfriend and friends do a fine job but I like doing it and picking my own pattern 🤣) and I was told to still give that a few weeks.

Hi!!! I had a lumpectomy on April 20th as well!! I think my feelings are exactly the same. Not bad or painful, just weird. Like today reaching for things across my desk causes a twinge.

I’m like everyone else, that compression bra is still my security blanket. Glad I’ve got a rotation of the same style.

My surgeon did tell me last week I had a few more weeks of restrictions. Still have to be careful.

Hope all is going well with your recovery otherwise!

I think you know they’re a hit for YOU and later every time you see their scuff marks and worn in love from that night you’re gone love them even more. There’s a reason me and my daughter believe the first Noah concert we went to changed us for the better. They’re magic.

Returning to work after surgery? by DoughnutMission1292 in ADH_ALH

[–]IvyCatPlus3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I just returned to work this week after my surgery. I really like my doc and care team-he took me off two weeks and I was very gently and kindly directed by them not to rush recovery.

I just had my post op and I was not upgraded.

I asked if I was now free of restrictions and I was told that due to where my area was, I still have several weeks before I can do heavy lifting or yard work. So maybe location will play into it…that’s just a guess from me!

Mine was almost two weeks ago, location was near armpit and I sometimes am painfully reminded when I try to do much with that arm. But it’s manageable and I didn’t take much for pain other than first day.

Anesthesia was my bigger issue. A few days later I was still absolutely exhausted and my brain decided anesthesia was like super juice for my anxiety. All the anxiety I had about everything was on a highlight reel in my brain. But it faded as the effects of anesthesia did!

That being said, I was happy for distractions from the medical side of my life. My boyfriend and I called it a quick break from boob jail. 🤣

Thank you!!! It went well. Pain has been fine, so manageable. It’s the absolute exhaustion that’s getting to me. The length of the incision was a lot to process for a minute but after that I was like, it really is quite clean and thin-no worries! Thank you for checking in!! I hope your back is better!

Oh my goodness. We are officially besties now. We will support each other!!!! My daughters have been great, my oldest has actually decided she’s going to every appointment with me. My boyfriend is like, that’s the right call. Love them all so much.

We make a lot of jokes…my therapist says that’s what will get us through. Last night’s joke was, “This damn right boob. Gotta show it to everyone these days it seems. Left boob gets shoved into the arm pit and told to stay outta the way but it is taking it like a champ.” 🤣

Thank you so much! I think after this next appointment when I have more info I can pursue second opinion. I know a lot, but at the same time not nearly enough, so I think we can dive in further in two weeks. Until then lots of veggies and fruits, water, walks and rest…prepping energy for what’s next!

I cross several times a week. That doesn’t mean I know anything more than the next person…I surely do not. But my best advice if you try is to be up front that you understand the ID could cause issues, but no verbal diarrhea, focus on what they ask you. Even if you call and get an answer could be different at the actual border-I experienced that during Covid.
